New graphics and music package are coming soon - no new set though. That will be when the move to Hudson Square is complete.3 points

I understand what @MorningNews is saying. In the NYC market, these types of newscasts really do not successfully exist outside of GDNY and, like what they said, WABC could put a repeat of the 6am show on at 10am and the ratings would be fine. So, you have to wonder, if that’s the case, how long will station management continue pouring resources into a show that would do well and be profitable regardless of the format? That said, I think the consensus here is that this is a nice and fresh attempt at something different for WABC. Based off the first show, it’s being executed well. Hopefully it’s so successful that the format sticks and becomes an outlier compared to the traditional newscasts.3 points

I think Mike and Shirleen make a good pairing overall, and I think adding Sam as a 'third anchor' of sorts was a very smart move due to his credentials/name recognition. In terms of light newscasts, there seem to be quite a variety now: -CBS 2 News at 9 with Cindy Hsu (more of a 'positive' newscast; not a huge fan of the forced back and forth with weather, like when the anchor would ask a question to segue weather reports instead of just a normal weather broadcast) -New York Living (although that entire show completely changed vibes to be way lighter fare when they replaced Chris with Alex, but I will acknowledge Marysol and Alex gel very well) -GDNY 9am hour (although this is an extension of GDNY it can be viewed as a new show somewhat) But back to EWN I'm starting to think Dani is there to fill the void whenever Sam can't be, since I think* he takes off every Friday? So in that case, it makes sense to market the newscast as 4 people as opposed to 3 when 1 is consistently off on a certain day. It seems like they are slowly preparing for the new look but it will debut sometime this Fall, (sigh) hopefully.2 points

Not the biggest fan of the new WLBT logo. I have a feeling that many of the Gray stations are going for this "overlapping letters" look. On the other hand, the new WIS logo looks great and really stands out with the new look.2 points

Family Feud now has eight unique runs, with all of them carried by WNYW/WWOR; I thought the seventh and eighth were repeats of two of the runs until I checked listings and saw each one was a different episode. Has any show ever had more than four runs a day? Insane.2 points

I meant to convey that they didn't hire an entire cohort of new employees just for this show. They gave some promotions and are paying others to work longer to cover the show. You're right that 1 hour of TV =/= 1 hour of work, though in this case several of the stories that air are recycled. My overall point is that it is not a gargantuan undertaking in either time or money for WABC to produce this show.1 point

I would agree if there were resources being poured into the show, but... they bought an extra table. They're paying producers and anchors more for working an extra hour, but they'd have to do that regardless of format. I agree that it's a nice, fresh attempt. So far, at least. I'll be interested in how the production evolves over the next few months, if at all.1 point

if modern family actually leaves the FOX O&Os, that’s the end of WRBW’s comedy block after well over 15 years down here. that is wild. also CBS has over 70 years of televised available content, nearly 100 years worth of paramount (and the companies paramount bought out and merged into over the years) content, and over 30 years of late night programming ready to air at any point in time. they chose…..a low rated, unfunny comedy series that hasn’t had a singular new episode since craig ferguson was hosting the late late show. just give 12:37am back to affiliates at this rate.1 point

Regarding the WLBT logo, I noticed the arm of the “3” was shortened to match the weight of the callsign font. Ironically, the revised design otherwise is closer to the original 1985–2009 layout (the version used with the standardized Raycom/Gray packages from 2009 until the GrayONE debut had the middle leg extending slightly closer to the top of the “3”’s open loop). The WIS logo is decent; the kerning of the call letters could have been spaced a little closer than it is, and the “I” and “S” made a bit thicker, so it fully matches the weight of the “W” (it can be hard to tell if the weights of all three letters match in certain depictions).1 point

Interesting experiment. Creative way to adapt the set and a broadcast that takes more time interviewing while also covering lighter things so it isn't a snoozer like 'Up Close.' Those are some of the things I found interesting about KUSI that got me watching local news more often again. Not used to having Sam during a political interview - does he have to be 'along for the ride' the whole show? I guess he is the pro talent and most seasoned of the bunch, but then why not make him the lead interviewer if that's the role? Like go all the way instead of an awkward middle. The music isn't singing to me, not distinctive enough for a daily Eyewitness News show, maybe they'll play around and find something else.1 point

And every single one of those runs relies on euphemisms for body parts and functions for the humor.1 point

Saturday's ratings are in. CW's ACC game (0.11/617k) nearly matched NBC's Big Ten game (0.11/665k).1 point

There are so many things better than having to resort to Byron Allen for a NETWORK timeslot..... Color Bars. Test patterns. Tower Cams. A black screen with soothing sounds. Anything readily in the public domain. Infomercials (of any kind) Any 1980's first-run syndication (bonus points for She's the Sheriff or Small Wonder) I give TV as we know it until the end of the year unless someone reaches a deal. And Stephen Colbert better have a long beard like Letterman did during the last strike!1 point

He locked them in his darkness retreat and told them to come out when they had a deal...or else they'd have to do Pat McAfee's show. As for the 700 Club, with Pat gone, you bet Bob Iger is pressing his son to give up the slot for less than $40 million now. With Grownish almost at its natural conclusion, the network is pretty much in winddown mode, and it's only been a question of if, not when, Disney XD is wound down either since it's down to two markets worldwide. Same with the extra FX channels, which basically telegraphs a move of Sunny back to FX sooner than later.1 point

WKBW-TV is in Spectrum territory also, and they should be lucky they aren't an ABC O&O. But this is/was all about making sure the game wasn't blacked out in Market No. 1.1 point

Legend has it that Pete Rozelle did it a few times when he was NFL commissioner. Maybe Aaron shared some of his magic mushrooms with the negotiators and they "saw the light". One has to wonder what the CBN braintrust is contemplating right now in their Virginia Beach bunker. Gordon Robertson will definitely have something to say about this.1 point

This is the first time I've noticed family/personal photos being used for a newscast's talent open. (Not trying to turn this thread into a list...)0 points

Yep, today marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic events that took place on September 11th, which continue to evoke deep emotions within us. Undoubtedly, this was the pivotal day that changed our lives forever.0 points
