  1. With the recent Crowdstrike meltdown, l can only find the irony that Sinclair used Crowdstrike as the SOLUTION to their massive 2021 hack!

  2. I honestly think that WBAY has the best 24/7 weather subchannel in the entire country. Almost 20 years later and still going strong. Also, WSAW Wausau adopted that "Every 7 Minutes" format not too long ago recently as well.

  3. This is probably worthy of another thread, but how has the Microsoft/Crowdstrike outage affected your local stations? The irony is that Crowdstrike was implemented after the Sinclair hack in 2021....and probably other places as well.

  4. Several network correspondents have left their jobs for anchor roles at local stations in major markets. The pay is comparable or in most cases better, hours are predictable, and there’s no travel required. For plenty of people, especially those with families, all of those things can be more important that just having a national profile. Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, and Rob Nelson all did this, leaving ABC News to join WABC as anchors. Before returning to ABC News, Whit Johnson had left CBS News for an anchor/reporter role at KNBC. There are countless other examples.

  5. Griffin Media drops their all sports radio 1170 The Blitz and replaced it with News on 6 Now which airs live newscast from CBS and CW shows and replays other news stories when News on 6 isn’t on air for a live newscast. Breaking News and Severe Weather Coverage will also air on KOTV-AM the flip happened this morning. All I know is the ratings for The Blitz wasn’t doing well and that is part of the reason for the change. This is the first time since the digital switch that KOTV is on the radio prior to the HD and digital switch they were on 87.7FM in Tulsa.

  6. At least KOTV-AM is a 50KW clear channel. That's very nice to have since their potential audience is many times larger than their TV footprint at night. Great for severe weather coverage.

  7. Mind blown. How could the FCC have thought that way back in the day, especially since denying people the access to life-saving information slaps in the face of a station operating in the public interest! Then again, this was the days before doppler radar, computer satellite imagery, and even qualified meteorologists at the local level in many places. I remember the days when all you would see on the screen would be the "W" graphic...then came the weather icon graphics with "WATCH" and "WARNING", and later, the county maps with the appropriate watches or warnings in different colors. And eventually, the "polygons" began to focus on affected areas within and encompassing counties. Plus, even in the era before VCRs, DVRs and on-demand television, if a show was pre-empted, you were truly SOL.

  8. KDBC/KFOX in El Paso are ending most local newscasts. The former’s 10pm is staying for now along with some simulcasts of KFOX’s newscasts on KDBC.

  9. I think the set looks great, if not a bit dark. If they could lighten it up, I think it would be stunning.

  10. I definitely think their previous lower thirds were better than what they have now. More shine gloss and not too flat. Their current graphics arent bad though. I'd still say 11 Alive's current set tops WAGA's overwhelming blue look. The WSB wood set looks a little outdated. I wish the skyline took up their entire background framing. WANF's set is not the worst or best...the overly fluorescent lighting cheapens their look though.
