I do think the way they do news (a mix of local news, national news, weather, celebrity news, police pursuits, and fun banter) just works for the all day news format. It also helps that their news is properly funded. This isn't some broke Sinclair station producing 16 hours of news a day, they have the staff and resources to cover LA news properly. Yeah if you watch it all day long non stop it could get boring but you could say the same thing watching hours and hours of court shows or talk shows all day. They cover serious news when needed yet allow talent to have fun in a way that is unparalleled to any other station. Their talent is so beloved by viewers that they can basically do a whole hour of them having an unscripted conversation (Off The Clock) and it works. It's also worth pointing out that 15 years ago they only had a morning newscast and hour at 10:00pm. Daytime used to be full of Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Wilkos, and other conflict talkers. Repeats of Family Guy aired in the evening. They slowly built up over the years starting with news at times when other stations had entertainment programming and then expanding to compete against the other newscasts head on.

To your point, they could easily take the resources they're putting into these newscasts and go out into the communities and report on issues that effect said communities. I'm sure there are enterprising stories they can come up with (aside from the standard/generic feature and/or entertainment stuff) and turn those into programs to help fill the void. Too bad they don't seem interested in doing that.

When I switched on the "KTLA Weekend Morning News" at around 7am on a Saturday or Sunday a few weeks ago, it was mentioned at the top of the broadcast that they were starting one hour late due to studio maintenence. There were a handful of other times that I have tuned in on weekdays when the "Morning News: Early Edition" also started at a later time, and perhaps for the same reasons. But yeah, with a crowded schedule of newscasts, it leads to less time to maintain their expansive news set and studio. Thus, doing studio maintenance at odd times.

That's putting it mildly. That clip feels like a few minutes of some public access station....twenty years ago. (On the other hand, I know which on-screen talent I'd want to see more of... )

That what I’m saying is most likely just how Maria Elena went to ABC he’ll do the same if he joins NBCUniversal. He is to old for a big anchor job.

I think the set looks great, if not a bit dark. If they could lighten it up, I think it would be stunning.

Unless they are deemed as a "Legacy branding" as listed above. WHAS has always been the First Alert Storm Team ever since...04ish? And prior to that, they were just the WHAS Storm Team. (Unless Gray doesn't want WHAS's money anymore for royalties. Then WAVE will become the First Alert Station)

It seems every time one of the stations here has shown some veteran talent the door there are folks who say they will never watch… they seem to not follow through always… the ratings have been rusted in place for 14 years now.
