  1. Each DMA usually contains multiple counties in a given area. So a DMA can often have a significantly larger population than the major city (or cities) it's named after.

  3. Isn't that where the concept of bureaus comes in? "Reporting now from our Fort Lauderdale bureau..."

  4. Adding to that, something I learned... Metropolitan areas, and DMAs are not necessarily coextensive. So a metropolitan area can have a higher population than another metro, yet still have a lower DMA rank. Our example... The Miami Metro is bigger than the Tampa Metro, yet Tampa's DMA ranks higher than Miami's. Why? The Miami metropolitan area includes the population of Palm Beach County, but the Miami DMA does not. This is probably because the entire metropolitan area would be too massive for the stations to drive to get to stories.

  6. What I'm reading on thelayoff.com sounds like stations including WTVY, WVIR, WHSV and WYMT suffered major losses. One claimed that half of WTVY's staff was let go.

  7. They also dumped the "ABC" from their logo. Probably an isolated occurrence, unlike the slow purge that Gray has been doing to many of their stations. I like it better than the WDCW package for sure. I just hope Nexstar has some new looks in the wings since the current packages are starting to get stale.
