  1. For a company that's so worried about big tech, maybe they shouldn't have hitched their entire future to retransmission consent of pay TV and playing catch up supplying their content to newer platforms. Big tech isn't going to be their demise, they did this to themselves.

  2. Can I just point out the irony that this image of the WPIX studio is at the bottom of the Nexstar-Tegna.com website? It should not be lost on anyone that Mission is still due to sell PIX 11 because Nexstar is running an out-of-state SSA though Mission Broadcasting and they still owe over $1.8 million to the FCC for de facto violation of the 39% ownership cap. However, that action is conveniently delayed under Brenden Carr. Perry is, at this point, flaunting that he's violating the public trust and the law. I'm forwarding this to my AG. Great litigation evidence, really. https://www.nexstar-tegna.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/local-news-image-2.jpg

  3. The problem is that Mike just turned 76 last week. He does look really good for his age though.

  4. Probably gutted or moth-balled for a while. It always looked tight in there. 3A looks nicer now since MSNBC left and it was re-modeled.

  5. Even the best don't make the right decisions every time. Part of being a leader is knowing when you've been beat. Then you minimize the damage and change course. This seems like a good move for everyone involved.

  7. I get your point but a news leader is supposed to lead and be innovative, not follow others, but sometimes you have to look at what the competition is doing and sometimes they lead in things that the undisputed news leader in Southern California hasn’t fully catched on with. I don’t fully agree with the decision making of KABC in this case but I understand why they are doing it, and that is the bottom line.

  8. can't wait for the eventuality of Allen owning no stations.

  9. It was interesting when I saw him work mornings at WCBS knowing he left WABC because of that shift. I can't blame the guy, there's nothing natural about waking up at 2 AM. Studies show it's harmful to the human body. Plus, the difficulty with a station like WABC is that they have so much senior talent who never leave, so you may never get off of a shift. Marcus Solis (if I'm correct) is still, working weekend mornings ---- it could be his choice. Joe Torres (and up until a few years ago Sandra Bookman) is still on weekends (could be his/their choice). Leaving WABC might be just what someone has to do to get a better position, being that their talent stays put. Unfortunately in Waller's case it didn't work out for him. He was better off an AM reporter at Disney than Nexstar & Paramount.

  10. This is why if you ever get a job at WABC you don’t leave. You deal with the shitty hours for a few years, and then you move to better ones. Derick Waller and Janice Yu both made demands which ended up not boding well for their careers. Waller wanted off mornings and Yu demanded the weekend morning anchor spot. Lesson to all - don’t bite off the hand that feeds you. You do your time, and if you do your job well, you will get a better shift. It might not be anchor, but it will be something other than early mornings.

  12. U.S. networks have not expanded beyond 30 minutes because of resistance from the affiliates. After all, who's going to give up the revenue from "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy!," "ET," or even local news? In fact, it was when WABC put "Jeopardy!" at 7 and moved "World News Tonight" to 6:30 that affiliates with network newscasts at 7 began moving them to 6:30 (there are a few exceptions, such as WSB, WRC, KDKA, WRGB, and WCAX). But I have said many times that if I had my own network, my newscast would be on at 10--far more potential viewers than at 6:30.

  13. We are getting to a point where the local news bubble will burst and stations will be going off the air or sold to other groups. Many people aren't watching local news and it shows in many markets. Just to add a newscast for ad revenue is ,and will always be, wrong. That is one of the reasons why groups like the GOP (which I can't stand in its own right) want nothing to do with media these days is because the Station Owner CEOs are only in it for the conflict and money. It hurts journalism integrity/viewership even more when you see statements like this from Sinclair CEO Chris Ripley. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/5/19/2098963/-Sinclair-Broadcast-Group-CEO-says-a-politically-divided-America-is-very-good-for-our-business

  15. Things things are done by research. It’s not just a reaction to the dog of the market doing new weather branding. 7 doesn’t even consider 2/9 as competition. 7’s numbers quadruple 2’s on a bad day. 7’s consultants/research obviously showed the need for this. That’s why it’s been done. Simple.

  16. When I saw that this morning, I thought to myself "wow that's new". I like that they're trying something different (sort of). Then again, it depends on the reason. I know weather can be unpredictable at times and you want to stay on top of it as best as you can, and I feel this helps them and possibly viewers with that. Maybe I'm missing something here, but if that's the case, then kudos to KABC for it. Also, it's kind of left me wondering: do you guys see other stations (other ABC O&Os at least) adopting these "Weather Change Alerts" or just KABC?

  17. Canada OH. MY. GOD. What a bloodbath Canada unexpectedly saw today. Rogers has shut down all-newsers CFFR Calgary, CKWX Vancouver, news/talkers CJNI Halifax, CKGL Kitchener, and Sportsnet Radio stations CFAC Calgary and CISL Vancouver. This leaves CFTR Toronto as the only all-news radio station left in the country and CJCL Toronto as one of two all-sports radio stations left (CKJR in nearby Edmonton being the other). https://calgary.citynews.ca/2026/07/07/rogers-sports-media-shutting-down-news-radio-stations-outside-toronto/
