  1. I'm thinking that this occurred around the time that WMAQ's Ron Magers and Carol Marin were having issues with their station adding their version of a clown, Jerry Springer as an ordinary potat...er commentator.

  3. Never seen that. I assumed it was a CBS affiliate package when I saw WBMG with it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phR4752T3gY It also matches the Look campaign the network had. Also, I really do think KCCI commissioned Champion. The signature matches the "The Look of a Leader", and the ID sting seems to be sung as "The Look of a Leader, TV-8".

  4. Don't know if anyone ever came across this, but here's some KCCI in 1992 with Gari's "Champion" news package and some KTSP-like graphics.

  5. This is the kind of "hard-hitting journalism" TEGNA's "Verify" team is churning out: http://www.12news.com/news/local/verify/verify-will-reeses-peanut-butter-cups-be-discontinued-this-october/476639565

  6. Dammit, I'm jealous I didn't make that joke when posting the video. I bow to you.

  7. I just hope and pray they don't bring that disgusting format to my state especially on the Texas Tegna stations.

  9. That KPTM logo was their first one from when they went on the air in 1986. This WCCO newscast from January 1986 also contains an outstanding promo for WCCO radio from the "Real Radio" (Tuesday16) days. This image was dropped in 1988: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=nofGydudvek;t=18 WTHR, noon open and story from 1990:

  10. Part of the death of TV is its own doing, like a habitual smoker that has lung cancer but refuses to give it up, partially out of denial that they've done this to themselves. That said, even companies like Sinclair can only keep it up for so long.

  11. Two very big shoes to fill at WRAL. It won't be the same after 2018, that's for sure. When you lose big news anchors like Bill Leslie and David Crabtree who have personified WRAL News for decades, its like Charlie Gaddy and Larry Stonger... its hard to swallow and they're irreplaceable once they leave. Truly irreplaceable.

  12. I looked at News 12's website and they usually do service for only the Bronx, Brooklyn, Connecticut, Long Island, Hudson Valley, and Westchester (the latter in which they're from New York). I guess that makes sense since my grandma lives in Northwest Connecticut and she might have the channel in her Charter package.

  13. News 12 seems to have much more staff than NY1 or the Spectrum News Networks.NY1 is only good if you want to follow City Politics like Inside City Hall or for News that occurs outside of Manhattan or the Suburbs.NY1 covers Queens, and Staten Island better than the Local O&O

  14. Nexstar is a prime candidate for Tegna by default just because, though they definitely have conflicts (Portland OR, Tampa, Jax, a good chunk of Texas, WDVM/DC may also be a problem)--but given they're based in Texas, I could definitely see them wanting WFAA and KHOU as a crown jewel. They'd also have a footprint in Austin again, and they'd get San Antonio--basically all of Texas's major metros. If Sinclair/Trib gets FCC approval, it may be worth the risk for Nexstar to sidecar some of those conflicts. Hearst would be a good candidate too. They have a couple conflicts too, but I think selling WMTW, WHAS, WFMY and KXTV to a Nexstar or Scripps basically takes care of it. They get a powerhouse in Portland ME so they don't have to middle with WMTW anymore, they'd get a presence in DC beyond office space with WUSA, and they'd get some amazing Belo legacy stations that need help in return, and I have no doubt Hearst could rehab a lot, if not all of them back to their one-time dominance. (Mods feel free to move to speculation if I'm getting too deep in the weeds here)

  16. A timely video, considering that with recent acquisitions WGN will begin to have clown commentaries in earnest. Insert Boris Epshteyn reference here.

  18. I mean, it's not bad from a technical standpoint - the animations are okay, the shadowing is decent, and the "news source" photo wrapping around the 8 is actually pretty clever and well-executed. But from a raw design standpoint, it reminds me of my own work from years ago - and not in a good way. So...yeah, ouch for sure.
