  1. At the start, NewsBeat started at 6pm. 6, 6 & 11 - I couldn't remember if there was a midday - I didn't think so, but after 25+ years, my memory about Philly news isn't as good as it once was... I have a 1994 Northeast trip I'm editing together (in reality, pulling out the stuff around the newscast opens, etc.) Jim

  2. Per , it wasn't until the next month- January of 92- that NewsBeat replaced the 6PM EWN. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't NewsBeat start at 5:30? One of Phillyvideofan's old videos (before the whole channel got taken down) seemed to imply that.) There wasn't a noon newscast at the time (no idea if they'd ever had one), but one did debut during the KYW News 3 era after the switch to CBS (no clue what was running in the slot before).

  3. Philadelphia, December 1991 KYW was simultaneously running two separate formats: Eyewitness News at 6pm and The News Tonight at 11pm, even with different reporters on the same story... I have no idea what other dayparts were running (early morning and midday - if they even had a midday newscast). By February, everything was was new format/theme/graphics. Also WPVI and WHYY... 4. With all the turnover there in the 90's, I'm not surprised. I believe he was brought in to push out (or at least take seniority over) Steve Baskerville, but it never came together like they wanted it to.

  5. Is that Ron Rolland or that same VO heard in this WSET open?

  6. Clearing out some backlog... Coming soon - a few 90s newscasts from Canada! Also, I will be posting some "20 years ago today" newscasts over the next few months. Enjoy! 8. And there is the fact that by that time CBS owned WCCO, and one way for the eye to 'hurt' the Deathstar/KARE was to take their popular met away, and if things didn't work out at 'BBM, bring him back to the Twin Cities to be chief @ CCO.

  9. Just heard this music being used in a promo for tomorrow morning's Good Day Tampa Bay on WTVT. I wonder if it'll debut there tomorrow? Other than that, it's still been the music from OSI.

  10. A very very bare bones newscast was offered by WVNY back in 1989, no wonder very little people watched the station:

  11. Someone explain how WCVB is #1 in the Boston market? Today their Facebook page posted another obnoxious caption photo that read “Sunday without the Patriots is Boring!” Focus on local and national news!

  12. Thanks for letting me know. I never watched the rest of his videos, knowing how unstable that guy is. I just assumed it was from the Atanta murders of 79-81 because of his love for WTCG/WTBS.

  13. Has this ever been posted? Either way this is still cool to watch considering how rare KTVK stuff is from the early to mid ‘80s. This also shows their ID from the following set of opens (Arizona’s News People) debuted in 1984, as well as a “Turn To” promo.

  14. Actually, you are incorrect. His sister was burned to death on July 4, 1983 at a Winn-Dixie in the Clair-Mel neighborhood of Tampa. A mentally unstable man named Billy Ferry walked in to the store, went to the cash registers, doused people with gasoline and set them on fire. I got to know him when he commented on a section of the 2005 WFLA-TV 50th Anniversary special I posted several years ago disputing what former reporter covered the story and his sister's death for the station. His family moved back to Georgia sometime in the late 80s or early 90s. His videos at first had some good vintage material from Tampa and Atlanta but for the last year or two they've been weird video mash-ups with bizarre theories attached to them.
