  1. They were just at the right place at the right time. In the early 50s the market need its own tv stations and the University was the only one who stepped up to do it. Certainly paid off for them in the long run. I can’t imagine today any of the big 4 allowing one of their affiliates to be mostly run by students, in any market for that matter. On second thought though... student reporters=free labor. So maybe that will be Nexstar or Tegna’s next move.

  2. It's amazing to think that the Univ. of Missouri owns both an NBC/CW and an NPR station. It's so HIGHLY unusual. But so is the Univ. of Alabama which has a This TV and an NPR station.

  3. Hate to say it, but it feels like Gray tried to put "Action News" lipstick on a "Snoozefest 19" pig, when Gray should've shot the pig and start over. I would say give it time, but as of now it looks like they're trying too hard to be "Action News" without being "Action News".

  4. If there's one thing Gray doesn't do, it's standardization. Though, I wouldn't mind if this package spread to other stations in the group.

  5. BEAUTIFUL. Honestly if I could redo my favorite news opens list this would be a dead lock in my Top 10.

  6. Ah yes....the story that actually put WOIO on top of the ratings....that one time....

  7. They had personalities like David Wittman and Denise Dufala (the former elder statesman of WOIO), but Raycom went cheap and decided to rely on Tucker and Tanaka for its newscasts.

  8. It feels like another omen that Meredith will soon be swallowed up by Gray now that WOIO has this package. The news supers still have the same layout and feel of the old Raycom look, but in the new colors. But it looks good so far! They still need a new set since the other one is so washed out by the lights and cramped, and I HATE the hand-held camera in the studio....they can't put it on a stedicam rig? But it's good to have the "Action" back in "19 News!"

  9. "CLEVELAND 19 NEWS" IS DEAD! Long live "19 News". Edit: They're now using CBS Local instead of TITP.

  12. It does feel like something from TVbD circa 1996-97... I think it's the typeface, honestly.

  13. Is that the VO from Inside Edition? If so, then kudos to Gray.

  14. Isn't that where WOIO's current logo is from too?

  16. Yeah Bank Gothic was like one of the hottest fonts at the end of the 90's. No knockoff there.

  17. Ah yes, back when all Nexstar stations had the budget of a ham sandwich. Funny how far they've come.

  18. That's not true though. They are eliminating the Limerick package group-wide.

  19. I do like the look of the new logo, but I’m going to hate to see the limerick package go.
