  1. The early 1980s CBS Evening News graphics were mocked by Canadian comedy series SCTV which aired on NBC in the United States. This was seen in the episode where SCTV were in a "network war" with CBS, ABC and NBC. And the episode featured its own take on "The Godfather." So, you can watch SCTV's version of the CBS open at 22:20 and the open uses a synth theme. Here is the original CBS Evening News open from 1981 which features a close.

  3. Walter Cronkite says goodbye to NBC colleague Chet Huntley in July 1970. The video also includes Huntley's farewell message and the traditional sign-off from both Huntley and David Brinkley, followed by the credits with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.

  5. Yeah, the promotions department is always playing around, trying stuff, with no great effect on the broadcast. Just because there's been an injection of humor, personality, and playfulness, doesn't mean they're abandoning the hard news M.O. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it's trying to look like a GMA promo from a couple years ago, but not executed as well. Jazzy music, shots of the anchors, but not hardly as slick, and that's its biggest flaw, in my eyes.
