  1. Knowing how the station deteriorated without ABC, it can be said that this was a huge loss trying to wage a culture war for this station. Over ten years and likely around $10 million to carry ABC, to be sold off for couch cushion money ten years later just because the owner hated Grey's Anatomy because it dared to tackle LGTBQ+ issues feels like karmic justice, and that nobody is willing to follow you to 'family friendly' disasters like RTV and the other Luken nets (whoever steered the way for him to carry Weigel probably saved the station from just going dark completely).

  2. Why would it tarnish her at all? Is she only supposed to have well-liked people on her show to talk about cooking and flowers? 60 Minutes correspondents interview unpopular people accused of crimes all the time, and press them on the details of the crimes they are accused of. Why shouldn't she be able to do the same?

  3. Agreed. About the only way I could see this interview tarnishing Tamron Hall is if she tosses a series of softball questions to Lauer and ignores asking any tough questions.

  4. Wow. There was a formal complaint made that he had raped someone in his office in 2001, but it happened again in 2014? Hope Matthew Lauer rots. I can't believe that Meredith Vieira is being cited as the one who urged the victim to report this. They were very close to one another and it's refreshing to see one of these TV personalities can still put morals ahead of entertainment.

  6. Based on the reactions to this-- I cannot wait for the shitstorm to ensue when WNEP picks up the Tegna theme.

  7. No. They did it on weeknights too, as late as 1986 before the logo change: That being said, they might’ve been the only Gannett outlet to use the ID as the open. Indeed, by this point (December 1983) many Gannett stations were phasing in the CGI Deathstar IDs (WTCN I believe was the first).

  8. Maybe they turn a camera on and let viewers watch them get ready to go for the day.

  9. I'm somewhat suspicious about what people who worked with Lauer "knew" about him. I feel like a lot of them are not saying what they actually knew and are hiding under this blanket of cluelessness in the public eye in order to keep their career and reputation. There's been open jokes and roasts touting Lauer's womanizing ways before the #MeToo movement when this behavior was sectioned off as okay for white men with power.

  10. Back when I was a kid, Sears ran a commercial every night where a local TV guy would start up a Sears lawn mower live to prove that it would start up the first time every time. I think they ran the same commercial in other markets using local personalities in those markets. Sears obviously had National advertising, but they also saw the value in having some local faces shilling for Sears.

  11. Thanks to the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, all episodes of UNC-TV's North Carolina Now from its 1994 premiere through July 31, 1998 are available online for viewing. In searching the archive, I came across the composer for the original "cheesy 1990s talk show" theme in the credits roll: a company called Scores (not related to Score Productions). You can see an episode with an nice, long 1-minute closing with the theme here I can't find any information about Scores... it sounds like this company has been out of business for quite some time. I assume it was North Carolina-based.

  12. The NMSA in general has trouble telling the 'CCO themes of this era apart. (It doesn't help when WCCO's own sister station matched the 85 "Best News of All" imaging with the 83 theme.) Particularly 1978 -> 1983 is an evolution and their similar beds make it worse. The 1983 theme, which had an accompanying On the Move image, debuted when the station moved into the then-new WCCO Communications Center on September 13.

  14. Great find - funny it was being mocked back then as elevator music. But now that we know yeah those horns are signature Gari, and probably his collaborator at the time Danny Baker.

  15. Don't you know you NEVER tell a man with an ugly dog...that his dog is ugly. Yes it's bush, rough and unpolished, but it's not trying to be anything but a startup all news operation, that has to start somewhere. I'm totally rooting for these kids and every single crappy cheap Chinese tv transmitters they occupy. These guys KNOW what a budget is because they don't have one.... They trade aluminum cans for satellite time... They eat Cheerios out of ziplock bags that mom packs for them...She still has to cut up their meat into little squares, and trim the crust off the bread... They all get naps... ...and I bet the news director can't even buy cigarettes or a dirty mag until he turns 18. Besides, It's fun to watch! At least some still get an allowance for doing the chores.

  16. There is no way Dylan will sustain working 7 days a week long term. Same goes for Sheinelle working 6 days. They'll have to have a day off during the week on a permanent basis (as Chuck Todd does) or dump their weekend duties all together & stick with the third hour during the week. They can easilly get somone from The Weather Channel to take Dylan's spot and someone from MSNBC to cover Sheinelle on Saturdays.

  18. Apparently KSWB now has a half hour 7pm show. Also, I noticed at 4am there's a show called Fox 5 Behind the Scenes, on right before the 4:30am news... Not sure what that is. Has anyone else seen it?
