  1. Mobile, Alabama and it's likely for the new chief meteorologist.

  3. It seems like around the time he was last seen on WKRG. Could have very well have been Mel Showers' last newscast as a main anchor and may have been working without a contract just to see Mel off during the book.... It was a week or two later that Alan announced he had left WKRG after failing to reach a new contract and that they were very "far apart" in negotiations. Alan has been saying on his weather Facebook page that he WILL be back on a Mobile television station very soon....and with Chris Dunn leaving WPMI opens up a slot since Allen Strum (WEAR) and Jason Smith (WALA) seem to be staying put....

  4. I'm thinking the latter.....they've been teasing in promos with a guy wearing a "barrels of buttery sunshine" button. With Alan Sealls leaving WKRG.... With Chris Dunn leaving WPMI.... I'm willing to bet WPMI just scored their greatest hire ever.....

  5. Given the unique nature of the market and how these stations even got mashed up in the first place, I don't think this is going to work. There is just too much to lose by having WEAR turning away from its hyper Florida approach.

  6. Well Quest airs as 480i on my local Tegna station. Wikipedia also lists the picture format for the Quest network as 480i. My thinking is that WBNS will keep MeTV, at least for now. I'd assume they would bump MeTV to a lower subchannel if they planned to remove them later on, unless they were contractually obligated to keep them on the .2 subchannel. Looks like the station you mentioned is WQMC-LD

  7. 10.4 is still bars and tone. MeTV (10.2) is HD though, which it wasn't when it was WCMH's 4.2. I was going to say Quest isn't HD, but it might just be this show. On my 48" set their crystal bug and Quest's in-show promos are definitely HD.

  8. That is a lot for a 1080i primary channel. Now bitrates aren’t everything but according to RabbitEars.info they are fixed currently at 12Mbps which is around the average bitrate for a 1080i channel at 12.34Mbps. Now keep in mind it’s possible there are several NBC/TELEMUNDO stations with dual 1080i channels and two SDs (soon to be three) that manage to look good. Maybe they need to update their encoder? However I’m not sure how good a 2Mbps 1080i picture is.
