  1. New station. WNDU just switched to the WBTV/WBAY package. It debuted just now on the 4pm.

  2. With the older 20/20 set, was that the first one introduced for the permanent re-tooling of the show following the disastrous original concept? The original concept only lasted one episode, and Hugh Downs hosted the rest of the season on a scaled-down version of the original concept and set. Here's the original set and the setup Hugh Downs used for the remaining episodes...

  5. It's fine how it is. It matches the plainness of everything else. I get you have a personal attachment to this particular station, but the graphics package just doesn't warrant this much attention. It's plain like the others, and no amount of orange will fix that, nor will they add orange to it.

  8. I am surprised that no one has mentioned the set of PBS Newshour so here it is. I have no idea who made these set for New York and Virgina.

  9. WEWS's set from around 1984 did go through some changes as one other user mentioned earlier. The 1st change was the logo overhead. The second was the monitors area behind the anchor desk was replace with some kind of platform with lines on it. The third change was the removal of the Eyewitness News logo and the background became a Cleveland skyline. A WEWS logo has been added to the front of the desk and a color change took effect. Just compare them.

  10. The plexi skyline backdrop from this set still exists and it's actually installed in current anchor Dennis House's attic.

  11. Add WFSB (It appears the only Post-Newsweek station not to use this set was WPLG)...

  13. Not sure if this is helpful, but here's some info on KPNX's old set. Not sure if they were owned by Gannett at the time, but it sure looks similar to some of the other sets from that era within that company.

  14. I'd like to know who designed the Gannett stations' sets, despite adding the "red white and blue" color to them.

  15. Here's a photo and background information on WXYZ's version of that set: as well as some photos of KPIX's version of that set:

  16. The set in the round were in two varieties, WLS (with 2 Tri Vision weather/chromakey/station logo units) and the WXYZ variety (w/ 1 TriVision unit). In addition to WLS, the dual TriVision sets also were at KTVI, and KOB-TV. And along w/ WXYZ, the set in the round w/ single TriVision units included KPIX and WKYC. I am almost willing to bet that the book that noggi posted from the Broadcast Design Association may have both the WXYZ and KPIX sets described above complete with a listing of the materials used to build it... KPIX's version... And WKYC's.... and KOB's Photo's The shot with the logo is the Tri Vision, and the other is the actual set
