1. Nexstar is sucking up to the administration just like Sinclair is. They will both get exactly what they want as long as they keep that up. Yeah, mass layoffs aren't bad at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also I can almost guarantee you that "helicopter noise" had absolutely nothing to do with the reason they got rid of their helicopters.
2. You were reported some time ago for making unnecessarily rude posts directed at other site users and were put on moderated status as a result. Posts are held until I have time to skim through them (usually once a day). I'm pretty sure I've approved every post you've made up until today when you made unnecessarily rude posts about the baby cake. I agree that it's not news, but that's no reason to attack other site users. These "general threads" are full of dumb stuff, mainly to keep it out of other threads.
3. If I had to bet I'd put money on him being the son of someone important at the station or a family friend of someone in management.
4. Scripps' current CEO and future CEO are dumping some of their stock: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/3/20/scripps-suits-are-selling-stock Tells you what their outlook on the future is like I suppose.
5. The UK's Royal Family is probably more popular in this country than the current (or previous) First Family, so it's not that much of a shock. Remember how out of their way the networks went to cover the Royal Marriage and the Royal Baby?
6. It's probably pink because the blue and red versions are playing at the same time, and they're both transparent enough they blend together or they have a blending mode enabled that you can't see when it's just one or the other.
7. Seeing as it took a year to fill Mike Jacobs' seat, don't expect this to move too quickly. If they were smart they would name Brian Gotter the chief and keep him on mornings like WITI.
8. Aren't those lighted pillars from the short lived Good Day set?
9. Judging by the 10:55 in the corner, I'm going to guess this show ran way under time and nobody noticed because Tribune decided putting computers in the control room instead of actual people was a good idea.
10. Tom Durian, who left WDJT a few years ago for a gig at KSTP, is returning to Milwaukee as an anchor/reporter at WTMJ. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1292381030842909 I can only imagine this means there is another anchor shuffle coming.
11. I randomly remembered that another Scripps station did this, but at least the new owner was going to re-wrap the truck anyways. KJRH sold two trucks to Eric Wotila/MI News 26 and left logos on the trucks then too.
12. Are we talking the standard amount of trash inside a live truck, or more?? I can't imagine most stations selling a truck without removing the wrap.... but I can imagine a Scripps station doing that for some reason.
13. Scripps has fired longtime KTNV Las Vegas GM Jim Prather. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/1/9/fired-in-sin-city Prior to serving as KTNV's GM, Prather was GM at WTMJ in Milwaukee.
14. Remember that NBC doesn't put on this event, they just have the broadcast rights to it. The musical acts are entirely outside their control (though I'm sure they could help pull strings to get, I don't know, America's Got Talent performers...) I didn't see the whole show (just this video), but it looks to me like WMAQ's involvement is to provide the hosts and most of the broadcast aspect (the boring camera shots give away that someone who directs news for a living is directing the video here). The audio feed of everything happening on the stage is probably a mix from the "house board" (if they were using a system like Dante they could potentially have a "house mix" and an "air mix" on two separate boards, but I doubt it) more than likely being operated by someone from the audio vendor, which is why the hosts are so loud in comparison. WMAQ's involvement with the actual event itself is just about the same as the vendors who supplied the lights, trussing, staging, etc.
15. Exactly. You answered your own question!
16. Of course, it's Scripps so they only buy in bulk. Don't waste your money!! I'm John Mataresssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=JMK6lzmSk2o;t=53
17. Going to post this here since I saw it come up in the shoutbox: My sources have informed me that the move is permanent. There was something about CBSN taking over the studio space in the newsroom but that didn't sound like it was confirmed yet.
18. WBBM has loathed the fact they have a streetside studio since about a month after they moved in to it. There were rumors a few years ago that they were trying to get out of using it. I believe their 10-year commitment to the city to use that space as a television studio is going to be up next year, so we'll see what happens then. If you haven't noticed, the newsroom windows are also all covered over. I feel like they got homesick for the old McClurg Court facility and went around covering over everything that could possibly let sunlight in.
19. Extremely unlikely.
20. At least the whole "Denver 7" debacle might finally get fixed now.
21. I worked some sources on this, and while I didn't find out who wrote the campaign, I found out how it ended up on KTNV about a decade after WITI used it. A man named Jim Behling was KTNV's GM in the late 80's. Jim started his TV career in Milwaukee at WITI, where he worked in the promotions department for a number of years, though it's believed he was the Production Manager when WITI was using the promo. Unfortunately, as the link above shows, Mr. Behling passed away in 2010.
22. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2016/11/9/scripps-to-get-new-ceo Scripps is getting a new CEO, and like in some Scripps newsrooms, it's the person who's currently overseeing "Digital". So expect more digital crap to make it's way to the TV side.
23. Some old WTMJ promos in here, including their knockoff version of "Hello Milwaukee" at 5:36. Also a high quality upload of parts of a newscast from 1972, featuring some interesting chromakey effects and use of the exciting Vidifont CG here and there (mostly at the end with a credits roll)
24. That "Beautiful 3A newsroom" is nearing 10 years old... It's also hogging a lot of valuable studio space, which is at a premium at NBC NY. You can put a newsroom anywhere but you can't really put a TV studio anywhere (else you end up with the closet sized "Studio" 7E WNBC had). I predict something big is planned for 3A next year. And moving Nightly might be part of that too. I also have had this sneaking suspicion that the 4th floor newsroom studio was supposed to be the modern day equivalent of Studio 5HN, the "instant news" studio NBC used to have on the 5th floor right off the newsroom where things like the bulletins about the Kennedy assassination originated. I feel like when we're all done here, that studio will be Brian's new glass bubble and not a "full time" MSNBC studio.
25. I've seen them on other shows pretty regularly. They usually use them as rejoins coming out of the first commercial break of a show.
