WEWS rebrand/logo discussion moved here: https://forums.tvnewstalk.net/index.php?threads/wews-rebrands-with-new-logo.15697

Scripps debut a new political show called "The Race" on their stations today that will run through the election. Air times vary wildly with some (like WTMJ) airing it in the early morning while others air it late at night. It's being produced by The Now, but other Scripps properties are contributing to it (like DecodeDC and Newsy) http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/scripps-debuts-national-political-show/177798
-
I had heard around the time it launched that WTMJ's "Now" was/is a experiment that could find its way to other stations that don't have their own "Now", and the ones that do could reformat eventually. Obviously WGBA is a candidate for this since they still have "Wisconsin Tonight", and WMAR has that "In Focus" show that reminds me of Wisconsin Tonight.

Because it costs less to produce than it makes on ad revenue, resulting in a profit. I also know WTMJ's Now has had ratings gains ever since it launched. People like it. I know people on here don't like The Now because it's not a "traditional newscast", but calling it a "failure" couldn't be further from the truth.

Scripps is touting it's "success" at putting digital/social media first at KNXV (which you may recall included replacing the news director with the station's digital director). http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/local-tv/scripps-phoenix-station-thinks-digital-overhaul-newsroom-operations/158819 There's no mention of how this affected ratings, but at least they have 50,000 more fans on Facebook...

WPIX posted a couple minutes of their 10PM newscast from August 14th, 2003, the day of the 2003 Northeast Blackout, noting that most people couldn't actually watch it as their power was out. Even though there's a very good chance they were running on generator power, you can't even tell that's the case.

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes
Weeters replied to promoguy98's topic in News Music & Voiceovers
The logo changed by the time they moved into their new building in 1978, which may have been when it debut. I found another article from 1981 talking about WISN and Hello Milwaukee, which references ad agency Frankenberry Laughlin and Constable as WITI's "long-time advertising agency". They resigned from the WITI account by the time the 1982 article about bringing back the Gari "Winners" campaign was published, but that means one thing: Gari was in the Frankenberry Laughlin and Constable Rolodex. The article also mentions two campaigns I haven't seen, "It's Always TV6" and "It's a Milwaukee" (???). I vaguely remember hearing part of a "You sure look like a Winner" jingle in WITI's 50th anniversary special, but it looks like that's been scrubbed from the internet. Might have to dig through the VHS archives at One TVNT later. -

I finally got around to tracking down the KTNV version of the WITI promo that's been discussed here and found something else. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=feJbrxfkb7w;t=319 That image campaign is recycled from a WTMJ radio campaign that was done by Terry Sweet. i'm still not convinced Sweet did the "Count on TV6/Count on 13" campaign. The KTNV version looks like it was copied from WITI (especially the anchors laughing and looking at the camera part, which was in of the WITI promo) and the music style is different. Hearing his stuff on the radio pretty much daily, the "Count On" campaign sounds nothing like anything else he's done. -

WITI's "Winners" sound nothing like One 4 All. -
Pete Sack is also a substitute teacher in a southeastern Wisconsin school district. Apparently he never moved out of the area after leaving WDJT. I guess he likes what he has going since there's been plenty of chances to move up in Chicago or get back into Milwaukee.

I do know Frank Gari did at least one campaign for WITI in the late 70's (Not sure which "Winners" campaign is being referenced, a lot of the old 70's promos online used the "The Winners on TV-6" tag) and they all have a similar feel to them. It might be a Gari one-off. -
ABC is likely to start hubbing things in the next few years too, so I don't know what you imagine ABC "saving" them from. I've already heard rumors that ABC is tired of these shitty graphics packages and are looking at building out a graphics hub and going the group package route. They kind of did in the mornings for a while in 2008. There were a few months where WGBA simulcast "Live at Daybreak" and "Live at Noon" from WTMJ and inserted their own local weather. It bombed, because who would have thought Green Bay locals don't care about what crime is going on in Milwaukee???

It's probably used as a metaphor to motivate employees. All the little cogs and gears make the big one move. The executives all see themselves as the biggest gears. The employees roll their eyes and don't think about the gears again.

Scripps is trying something new, a investigative reporter serving all three of their Florida stations. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/6/8/scripps-names-florida-investigative-reporter What's next, a hubbed weather department?
-
WDJT is now branding their weather as... "Ready Weather". This is the third brand they've used in the past two years (Was "First Alert Weather" before becoming just "CBS58 Weather") You can see the logo on their site: www.cbs58.com/category/290113/7-day-forecast

It's currently part of my private collection. I am trying to clean it up (it's an extremely muddy, low quality dub) and might find a place online for it eventually. -

Both of these were composed by Wisconsin-based jingle composer Terry Sweet (Locals are probably very familiar with his work, he's still in business doing those awful "Step Up to Colders!" commercials) The theme from KTNV is called "TV-8 News Theme" on his 1984 demo reel. Also, I think the vocieover is then-WTMJ announcer Gus Gnorski, for what it's worth. Probably some early "hubbing" going on there. The WBRZ campaign is also on the 1984 demo reel, aptly named "TV-2 The One To Watch-WBRZ". -
WSI has a social media integration package where you can easily export static images to social media. It wouldn't be that difficult at all to make a one-off special "scene" like this and send it to Twitter.

Discussion of the new graphics post-launch has been moved here: http://forums.tvnewstalk.net/index.php?threads/wabc-new-graphics.15431/ Again, people. General threads for things that don't warrant their own threads. New graphics is one of those things that deserves it's own thread.

Maybe they took the dog to live on a nice farm up state. Or maybe a producer got pissed off that weather was always going over their allotted time beause of the dog. That will get things cut real quick.
-
Because it's easier to post them "publicly" and share them internally than it is to privatize them and add an extra step to viewing the thing. By the time people on here find them, they're probably not needed anymore and they get yanked offline. I hope these are early drafts, because what I'm seeing right now is NOT up to the quality you would expect from Market #1.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
Weeters replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
There is zero evidence that WFAA's affiliation is being revoked nor is there any evidence it is up for sale. It's barely worth discussing. Posting in a manner that's only to cause controversy is generally frowned upon.- 3689 replies

Now that I look at what KNTV has... It IS the same thing, just the WCAU titlebar doesn't appear to slightly transparent like KNTV's. The ticker and just about everything else is identical though.
-
Not sure how you came to that conclusion. These new weather graphics use the same colors and fonts as the current package (Artworks has produced graphics with a similar title bar layout in the past). An update to this package, maybe, but a whole new package is a bit of a stretch. Sometimes stations get new weather computers and use the opportunity to update the graphics. I mean, this IS WCAU we're talking about, they have a history of deviating from the rest of the O&O's... All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up too much.
