I haven't watched too many WMAQ newscasts lately since I no longer work at a place that has it on their TV 24/7, but last week, I noticed that instead of live camera views on their video wall, they've been using stock photos of the skyline. Is this standard now, and how long has it been going on?

I wonder if WGN is still planning on doing a late Saturday newscast with the late start to tonight's Cubs game. Edit: Yes, they do. They just advertised it during the game broadcast.

Yeah, I feel like WMAQ is not very strong with branding their personnel to specific newscasts. It's like after Stephan Holt left, they were in no rush to officially name a replacement and were perfectly fine with advertising their morning news with just Zoraida, Andy, and Kye.

Tornado Warning in McHenry right now. WLS was the only local station prepared to go live here on this holiday afternoon with Larry Mowry. Everyone else is in normal programming. Edit: I think he might be upstairs in the weather center. His mic sounds like he's not in the studio itself. Edit 2: WMAQ and WBBM started their coverage about 10 minutes after WLS. WGN and WFLD are deeply engulfed in sports and are staying with sports programming.

I saw the ad this past Sunday, but I had no idea that it was new, so I didn't say anything.

WGN is already in team coverage for storms that aren't even here yet. Severe storms and flooding rains are expected tonight. Tom and Demetrius are already sharing airtime here in the 6pm hour.

Wonder how ESPN will justify the studio space they built in NYC? Just move the morning edition of SportsCenter out there?

Ugh, they went with the italic font from their bowl game coverage. And it totally clashes with the font used for the down, distance, quarter, and time.

Michelle Beadle is exiting Get Up and moving back to Los Angeles, where ESPN will double down on NBA programming featuring her as host. Meanwhile, she will be replaced by rotating guest hosts on Get Up. Blast from the past tonight. Whoever is directing the Cubs game tonight in Pittsburgh has been using the 2011-2017 WGN Cubs music throughout the entire telecast. The new music was only used for the opener since it's probably built into the opener.

After Burton moved to weekdays, who anchored weekends on ABC 7? Apparently Karen Jordan didn't join the station until July 2003. Did Jordan assume the weekend anchor duties immediately, or did it take a while?

I assume Phil will be in for Tracy Monday and Tuesday before things reset to normal on Wednesday.

Heck, most stations across the country can't justify a second anchor at noon, let alone a third or fourth.

Marcus Leshock is anchoring all 6 hours of the morning news today. Basically half of their on-air staff seems to be off today.

They do that in smaller markets. I feel like the responsibility of a top 3 market is to run a late newscast no matter how late it is. If you have to send one of the two anchors home or use substitutions for anchors or the other roles as necessary, you still want to put on a live late newscast if you're a top 3 market.

Alan Krashesky and Cheryl Burton are holding down the fort on the WCIU newscast tonight. It's definitely a funny holiday weekend quirk when the A-team is available, but everyone else is off.

I liked the holiday color scheme during the midday show today. Too bad they're not using it during the evening news.
