I have a bad feeling that stevations will get terminated by NBCU within the next few months, go ahead and save his videos while you still can!

He had to stop posting videos after he lost his monetization privelages, and would like donations for new tapes and possibly a website to post them on!

Oh goodness... that would be a loss. Lots of Hampton Roads material in his collection.

But yeah, as stated above, his channel shouldn’t be monetized. If he is using it as a source of income, perhaps he should set up a Patreon or something. I’d consider contributing.

  2. I counted seven. It would have been fine if they just listed its service area as "Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Hampton/Newport News" or "Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Hampton". Any more than four cities in a station ID is reaching into overkill territory. Four is OK, depending on whether the market consists of that many significant population centers.

Those are the "seven cities" that make up Hampton Roads. All of the stations gradually added more cities to their legal ID in the 90s and into the early 2000s for some reason.

  3.
Also I’m trying to decide on what to do for a Virginia compilation - should I do Richmond or Norfolk? Or both? I really love both markets and have been there too. And speaking of VA, that WDBJ open has seen YT before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQZ2SPTtkTE I posted that clip back in February and @ChesapeakeTV called it one of the worst depictions of VA he’s ever seen.
WAVY has a fairly complete open history on YouTube going back to 1980... just missing the daytime Wall to Wall opens. WVEC’s is somewhat complete going back to the early 80s. WTKR has holes in the 80s and an “undiscovered” open used in 1998/99 when they first switched to Ignitor. Feel free to reach out if you need help compiling these. That WDBJ open may be a terrible depiction of the Commonwealth, but I’d definitely place it in the top 10 Virginia news opens! A classic for sure.

  4. Here’s a bit of WTKR on the derailment of the Norfolk & Western 611 in the Great Dismal Swamp in May 18, 1986. Anchors Betty Francis and Ross MacCallum.

No open or music or anything on this clip, unfortunately. Would love to see more of WTKR during this period... this was months before going to the “Discover the Land of the 3” look.

  5. I listen to WKXB/Jammin’ 99.9 and they expressed plans to be on the air with updates. If anything all the Sunrise stations may simulcast together, but I doubt they’ll just broadcast TV audio unless it becomes necessary.

That's good... I like the Jammin' crew and I know they'll do a great job keeping it local.

This guy's name is Pat Feldbelle.

WITN recently posted video of their Hurricane relief fundraising tape from after Hurricane Floyd 20 years ago, and it sounds like the same voice who narrated that video also voiced that open.

    Nice find!

He's voiced WITN since the early 90s. They used that other mystery voice for a while before reverting back to him on the opens.

Here he is in an open from 1998...

He still voices a lot of their promos while Charlie Van Dyke is on the opens.

I think they spent a wee too much money on that open.

Looks like Cinemagic work... they did a lot of medium-market stuff in the early-mid 2000's, but did have some bigger clients like KDKA and WMAR.

They sure did blow their budget on graphics instead of spending it on things more worthwhile from the sound of it.

  8. On YouTube, you never know what you'll find. Back in 1988, Gregg Jarrett (now of FOX News) worked for WKFT-TV, the independent station serving Raleigh, Durham and Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was the news anchor for the station's 10pm news.

Here is a tease that aired one hour before the newscast aired. This one features an unknown theme. Please note that this was uploaded nine years ago.

My favorite thing about this? CounterForce 40!

Not sure what it's supposed to mean but I like it

  9. WECT quietly changed the branding of its newscasts on WSFX as of Monday, June 25. They’re now known as “WECT News on Fox Wilmington”

They’re using WECT’s version of the Raycom graphics and the WECT peacock duratran. Aerial remains as the music package.

  10. Although it's already "discovered"... I'm pulling up the Otis Conner WROC/WXII theme again.

Listen closely to the melody in the background of this WXII promo from 1988...

This was during the era they were using the "remixed" Wall to Wall arranged by Conner, but that's definitely the exact same melody as

that's regarded as separate. Could it be the same package, or is it more likely that Conner was recycling the melody for the "Wall to Wall remix" now that we know the "WROC theme" existed in 1987 (KOB)? Is there more to the story about the WXII/WYFF remix?

  11. Sticking to the Carolinas...

Came here to post this... you beat me to it, haha!

Early usage of Right Here, Right Now for sure... I wonder if it began in late 2000? Any Charlotteans have any insight? They were certainly using the more subdued cuts than the era with the powerful opens voiced by Charlie Van Dyke that are on the NMSA (used presumably after this)
