  1. By the way, speaking of WYFF, I'm now on the hunt for finding footage from that station from the 1990s. So far, all we have is the 1990 news update, a 1991-92 promo and update which can both be found on Facebook, some 1993-94 promos on YouTube, a short open from 1994 on NewsActive3's compilations, and a partial newscast which incorrectly stated that the station was WSPA in the video title.

FWIW, here's a snippet of the closing theme from that era I found from a video on a WYFF alumni facebook group (that's since been made private) a while back.

  2. We've been doing so well finding clips this weekend, I thought I'd add one more. A WVTM open from 1988 using the same graphics & music as KDFW, KTBC, and KTVI around that time period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=bPprq8HM1_w;m=24;s=1

That's quite a find - Yours Truly on WVTM! And from Mr. NMSA's home market.

Finally found WDEF's version of the 1997 MG package (you'll have to click the link and watch on YT): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h=3;id=zx4H7N4yjfs;m=15;s=29

Same 'cloud' set backdrop as WNCT had at the time.

  3. Commercials, etc. from WAVY in January 1995. This is the earliest I've seen Newswire appear... not sure when the switch from The Team/Wall to Wall happened, but it may have been for the new year.

Also included at 2:28 is a promo for the WAVY News 10 weekend team - featuring a production music track that is

  4. Anyone catch the sports guy's name? I couldn't make it out.

I did some digging, and his name is Roger Cawthon. I guess he did the evening sports between Brad Face and Scott Cash.

There's not a whole lot about his time at WVEC, but he's now a building contractor in Virginia Beach.

  5. Could additional early-mid 80s WTVR themes be lurking? This from the Richmond Times-Dispatch in 1986 (and yes, this is JDK Music described):

WTVR was using the "WSLS 1988 News Theme" in '86... I'm thinking it was made for them since they were the Roy H. Park flagship station and John Keltonic is out of Richmond. Several years back, WTVR did a Charles Fishburne retrospective and they played a bit of the news open at the time, and it was the same theme used in the WBMG opens.

  6. WWBT was using The Mission in 1990, but it looks like they also had something else going on... (Richmond Times-Dispatch, March 16, 1990)

The article might be referring to this promo campaign...

However, I had no idea it was by Robbin Thompson & Steve Bassett! ("Sweet Virginia Breeze")

The Mission was definitely used as early as 1986 and as late as 1993, probably up until the logo change in 1994 which is likely when Signature was picked up. WWBT did use a couple of other themes here and there during the time, such as the mysterious 1989 theme and the NBC Affiliate Package, but they were all used alongside The Mission.

  7. Any clues on who did this piece for KWTV? There's a less synthy version on the NMSA.

Ahhh! I love this theme. If I remember right, the one on the NMSA may have had slightly different graphics, but I can't remember because it's been so long since I've seen the clip. Maybe it was from later in '93.

Speaking of KWTV, it looks like they may have been using "Going Global" by FirstCom in 1994, or a variant thereof...

  8. The former West Virginia Media Holdings stations that are now owned by Nexstar have intro-ed all of their newscast even long before being owned by Nexstar as: "Live from the Frontier Communications Studio.... 7News (or 12News, 13News, 59News) begins "NOW"!!!!!!

Not really surprising. Nexstar sell rights to tickers and to weather segments sometimes.

The difference with WRIC is that this is sponsorship of the breaking news segment. As FTVLive points out, the law firm's name will be on coverage of "breaking news" which will sound pretty distasteful when it's a tragic event.

  9. Keep posting those older videos, though! That's what makes this thread shine, and I don't want that to be lost like the older songs on said oldies/classic hits stations.

I feel like there's been a dry spot in new classic video lately! Hopefully those with ways to capture can scour for VHS tapes on Craigslist, eBay, their local thrift shop, etc. Always cool finding new stuff.
