  1. I think it has something to do with them wanting to have full control over their graphics with their fancy Viz system. Went they moved to the new building they took their old graphics package and redrew the CG elements in house instead of going to Giant Octopus and having them redo them. The results were quite amateurish.
  2. They pretty much shit their pants when 10 bought Skyforce 10 last year. I can imagine the meeting of how this little brain storm came to be. Something to the effect of "oh no we're not the only one with unique aerials anymore. Quick how do we make Chopper 6 stand out? We can't put a reporter in the chopper. 10 already does that. We can't cover as much ground in the air as 10 does cause their chopper is better. I know let's put a 360 panorama camera on it that the viewers can play with! Brilliant!"
  3. 6's latest thing has been to buy shiny new toys, claim they were the first to have them, then barely use them to their potential. What gets me is how they tried snow their viewers over yesterday constantly saying "you control the camera!". Ummm no.
  4. The weather center dates back to 2004. They installed it during the Olympics and gave the news set a small refresh as well.
  5. News 10 ended in 2000
  6. They did have 3. One was converted into the current newsroom. The other survives today and the third was where the two radio stations resided til CBS moved them across the street.
  7. Awesome. They're probably going to keep the general look and feel of the current set but add in those new elements. I wonder if they're going to add some useful space in there cause in its current iteration there is a lot of empty space behind the anchors that never got to really be used cause the robotic cameras couldn't access it properly.
  8. What ever they're up to looks like it isn't effecting the weather center too much. They're still doing the weather from there (although they aren't using the virtual weather set which is done on a huge full length green screen just to the right of the news desk). That said I can see them installing a video wall backdrop like a few of their sister stations have adopted and doing something about that monitor array that never really served any purpose.other than as a backdrop to some standups
  9. Looks like something is up studio wise. They've got a temporary setup in the streetside studio (the former 10! Show studio) they've been using since 11AM this morning. I can't see them getting a completely new set since they're moving downtown in 3 years but their current set had been around since 2008 and it could use a refresh to hold them over til '17.
  10. 6 uses Barons for their live radar so there's that.
  11. That double beam on their radar is not the actual radar beam. It's an animation overlayed on to the map. They do go to the actual live radar when there something they need to show and you can see the actual radar beam and it's more in tune with a regular 5 min sweep.
  12. Karen while she is the morning traffic reporter is still part of the weather team (and a meteorologist). They still include her in weather promos and when Murphy or someone on the weekends is off she usually the one who fills in for them.
  13. Thing is is though for this current look, 95% of it was done in-house. 6 contracted a firm to do the logo, the end of the open and the base elements of the look. They did everything else themselves.
  14. The 11AM is Renee's
  15. Surprised there hasn't been one made yet so here we go with its first post. The Daily News is reporting that WCAU is shaking up the morning show...again and going with three anchors spread out over the 3 hour show. Chris Cato joins the cast and solos from 4-4:30AM then Tracy Davidson joins him at 4:30 and they pair up from 4:30-5:30. Vai Sikahema then comes in for Cato and does the remaining 90 mins with Tracy. I wonder if there will be different feels to the show with the varying personnel. http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/celebrities/20140318_Chris_Cato_on_mornings_at_NBC10.html
  16. That's normal for 6. If you're an anchor and they need someone to fill in and you're available, you'll get a call.
  17. 10's 4 and 11 seem to be their hardest newscasts and it's not outlandish to say the 4 is the harder of the two esp in that 22 min A block. I get to watch the two 4PM shows side by side and you can almost literally see the shots being fired back and forth across City Line Av.
