  1. The NBC Sports Regionals are debuting at the very least a new animation motif based off the new opens they launched last summer. These kinda remind me of the package they were gonna launch for their NHL coverage. I'm not sure if the inserts will be updated when the regular season starts (they're still using the 2015 Drive insert package for at least the preseason).

It was hers to lose. And that was the smart thing to do. But I'm wondering who's going to do traffic now. Will it be Matt Pellman or someone elsem

I'm guessing Jessica Boyington gets the job. She filled that role before at WCAU and I'm fairly certain they hired her with David's eventual retirement in mind. They'll try her and Matt Pellman out just to do their due diligence though.

I've been seeing promos for an "Action News Update" on 6abc.com and their streaming apps. It airs at 11:30p. I have a few questions, though:

    • Why are they doing this at 11:30p? The Olympics aren't even scheduled to end until midnight.
    • Why are they doing this before the actual 11p is over? Normally they run the close at 11:32 or 11:33.
    • Are they doing this on weekends, too? The Saturday 11p show ends at midnight, and the Sunday ends at 11:45.
    • Did they do this in 2016 too?

They've been doing these since at least 2008. Basically a cheap ploy to try and lure some WCAU viewers over during the games.

Cecily referred to the radar as "Storm Tracker 6 Double Scan Live" last night. I don't know how to tell the difference between the two radars but I still regularly hear them call it their own radar. The graphic says "Storm Tracker 6 LIVE" too.

The MAX Radar uses a dark green base map and multiple radar sweeps on screen. Their StormTracker 6 radar has a single sweep centered north of the city and you'll notice the base map is a much lighter shade of green.

  5. It seems like 6 has either stopped using or has gotten rid of its personal StormTracker radar site (which was based in Warrington, PA). They've stopped referencing their "Live Double Scan" radar and only ever use the NWS radar sites using the MAX Weather System (their radar was controlled and presented on air with Baron software). I'm wondering if this was a pandemic cost cutting casualty.

Screencap of WCAU 4PM intro. I believe this is the first time they’ve had the Philly skyline featured in their intro since 2014 (which is when they switched to the standard Look F graphics).

I hope there's different versions for different dayparts like they did with their Look C refresh and their custom Look F.

Is Ted Greenberg the new weekend evening anchor? During last night’s tornado warning coverage he was on, and I’ve seen him on the past few weekends.

EDIT: Actually, last weekend he was not. Tracy Davidson was.

Tracy mentioned on IG she was filling in for Rosemary Connors who's on vacation. Ted's usually their goto fill in on the weekends in either daypart.

For those of you interested in what NBC 10 Boston has done, I've uploaded 3 different opens.

IMO, The 4:30 open looks the best, I'm not a fan of the tease graphics used at 5, and for "The Ten", the concept is a good one but I was expecting it to be 10 minuets straight of a local story, not a random feature story that doesn't have any apparent local connection, I'm surprised they didn't go with a full half hour of tradition news at 7 like other O&O's are or even something like KARE 11's "Breaking The News"...

NBC 10 Boston News at 4:30PM Open.

NBC 10 Boston News at 5PM, Breaking News Open.

NBC 10 Boston News "The Ten" at 7PM Open.

Those lowers in the 5PM tease are expanded snipes from Look N's topical promo graphics. I always thought they should have been the standard lowers for that package instead of the whole cable news-esque inserts they went with. That said they clash with Looks S. Also someone should tell them they're two weather packages behind. They're still using the original Look N weather templates.

While all other Look S stations align their logos and wordings in the intros to the left, KNTV decided to go rogue and make the logos and title wordings go all over the place...😑 Oh and don't get me started on the messed up Peacock colors...

Looks like they screwed up the keying of the logo. Alpha channels are your friend, people.

I beg to differ. There are no notable buildings in Philadelphia. In New York, there's the Empire State Building. In California, there's literally every building there. In Chicago, there is the Sears-Willis tower. In Philadelphia, there's nothing. You might as well put a Philly Cheese steak in the background and everyone will think, "look, it's Philadelphia."

I guess you haven't seen the Philly skyline since before 1984. There's a bunch of notable looking buildings in our skyline these days and this is just a piece of what it features:IMG_20200805_182713_537-1024x1024.jpg

Bad take. I'm not from Philly, so I'm not really familiar with their skyline, BUT the very broadcast company in question here just built one of (if not) the tallest skyscrapers in town, and NBC10 was one of the first occupants. That deserves to be in an open. Besides, locals know the skyline and city, even if it's not as identifiable to out-of-towners like most of us here.

Comcast Technology Center is what you're referring to. It's the tallest building in Philly now and one of, if not the tallest in the country outside of New York and Chicago.

Can any station insider there explain why so many reporters are leaving? Is it that bad a shop? Pay? No one leaves the other stations.

And… the lack of strong reporters is noticeable. A lot of B team folks.. no stars other than Ukee.

The CBS O&O/Peter Dunn scandal detailed the environment of the shop very well.
