Wow. Maybe in a better world, the CW brand name doesn't carry over,  and WGN America makes a comeback. But that's wishful thinking.

I can see either happening, but WPHL picking up the network is the most logical scenario. At least it gets to be O&O again instead of just an affiliate (and a barely recognized one one at that).

WPHL is for all intents and purposes an independent station and run themselves as such. Yes they carry the MyNet primetime stuff but they've long since distanced themselves from the network. I'm sure Nextar is eager to get their newly acquired network on their #4 market station asap.

As for WPSG, CBS seems to have no issues owning unaffiliated stations in duopoly markets (see LA & Boston). I could definitely see them fully bringing back the Philly 57 branding (given that they already have done so in logo form when the CW was originally launched, but verbally only referring to it as the CW Philly).

KYW finally made the switch today, leaving Detroit as the only CBS O&O to still be using the CBS Local layout (liekly until the launch of CBS News Detroit).

In addition, CBS News Philly has been renamed to CBS News Philadelphia. The CBS3 name is still being used (for now) but there has been a lot more emphasis on the CBS News Philadelphia name.

Curious the skyline photo they chose for the home page header. It's a tad dated as it's missing the Comcast Technology Center. Intentional omission given it houses the HQ of a competitor? 🤔

As featured in this article from NewscastStudio, there were plans to transition the weather segment branding from 'Eyewitness Weather' to the "Next Weather" branding currently used at WFOR, WBZ and WCCO in the near future, but they were put on hold due to the hiring of Kathy Gerrow as news director.

"NewscastStudio sources say that KYW in Philadelphia was also preparing to switch to “Next Weather” as well, but a recent news director hire may have put a halt or pause on those plans"

Also in the article is this tidbit about the new set:

"KYW is also anchoring from a temporary location as a new set is installed in its primary studio, but that debut may be delayed as leadership changes."

The set has been under construction for awhile now and Kathy's been in the position on an interim basis for much of that time. I'm pretty sure she signed off on it.

That said, with as much as the station is bleeding money, I doubt they'd rip out a set this close to the finish line.

She's actually been there for awhile as they went through the whole mess with leadership. She was also a high up staffer at KYW back during their News Tonight era in the early 90s. It's a good hire as she knows the market inside and out so she can at the very least make the station watchable again.

  5. This was mentioned in the CBS 3 thread in the Philly forum a few months back when they first started broadcasting from the temp set(s). At the time due to Covid, everyone was positioned at different locations around the building. Now though the anchors are all together in the sat center with Weather and Sports done from a monitor in what they call The Great Hall. I'm guessing they'll be debuting their new set (which we can believe will be their version of the CBS O&O set in a can) and whatever new O&O graphics in time for the Fall Season.

The NBC RSNs have unveiled a new baseball scorebug.

Looks good. The text for the pitcher/batter could stand to be a bit bigger or at least bold.

I wonder if they made this change to the template in preparation for the next package that we saw at the Super Bowl and are Peacock games going to be using that. I also wonder if the Peacock games will have a similar production set up like they did when NBC had the NHL where games that were played in markets that had an NBC RSN were produced side by side out of the same truck.

MLB released the Apple TV+ schedule on Tuesday, the slate will begin on April 8 with Mets-Nationals followed by Astros-Angels.

And those games will be available for free to both subscribers and non-subscribers.

...or find a better way overall to represent the Cardinals logo.

The STL logo used on their ballcaps would have been the ideal route to go. In fact that's what most networks use in their score bugs as opposed to the uniform logo.

I've always been partial to this one. Similar styles popped up elsewhere, but I maintain that, while not the style of today, these opens have not only held up best, but still look nice now.

Their adaptation of this look for KYW was really good too:

They really nailed the lowers and other insert elements and as mention before, the footage used in the opens was brilliant.

Finally. The updates to the main desk area and the big screen were good, but they needed a completely new set for way too long. While I expect a set on-par with most of the other O&Os, I hope they get a set like KDKA or WBZ.

Those are both clones of the WCBS set as are WBBM, WJZ, KPIX and others. I'm guessing they'll get the same set.

Jeez. While the logo with the city's name looks great and inviting, the initialism isn't... well, the Queen's English. If I lived there, I'd hate to have that represent it, me and the other residents, even if it's supposed to be innocuous instead of provocative.

It's the callsign for Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and has been for years. I don't think Charlotteans have a problem with it.

And doesn't Tracy already have co-anchors? It was originally 4PM Tracy Jackie/5PM Tracy Jim...or did things change somewhere?

No that hasn't changed. I think they meant adding a 4th person to have two distinct anchor teams in the afternoon/early evenings.

Watching Good Day on Friday & this morning, they're anchoring from in front of the monitor setup with a video feed of the corner windows behind them. This makes me think they have to be making some desk or set adjustments. Otherwise, why anchor from next to the window... with a feed of the window... instead of just their regular spot in front of the window?

I'm pretty sure they're actually upstairs in the main news studio. I guess Studio 29 is getting a makeover.
