After last year, CBS 3 is still way down on staffing, so they're reducing coverage while forcing existing reporters to pick up more of the slack where they can. Difficult value proposition for new reporters to consider, though, when CBS just whacks people left and right basically at will. Sad state of affairs and I'm bearish on an actual rebound with this station.
I think once they get new management at the top of the O&O division then work can be done to fix the individual stations. After what came out earlier this year about Peter Dunn and co esp in relation to how they wanted KYW run, it shows just how deep a hole they're in. I believe they just recently hired a new GM and they certainly have their work cut out for them. It seemed like Brien Kennedy had a good vision for the station going forward but was thwarted by his bosses and ended up leaving as a result (and who could blame him).
You can tell the station is hurting for revenues given their recent set "refresh". I'm just guessing, but given the number of other CBS O&Os that have adopted what was originally just WCBS' set, they could get a good deal on it if they wanted a new set, but they chose to just replace all the monitors and Duratrans on what is essentially a 14 year old set. Yes the basic structure and elements of it have been around since they moved in to that building. Only the desk has been fully replaced since then.
What they may have to do is beef up the sales department and start selling segments and/or launch a lifestyle show just to generate cash to weather the storm. Stations have recovered from much much worse including this one whose real dark age ran for a good 13 years including the entire 90's into the early 2000s.

As a surprise to no one. RSNs can't survive without at least one major team to partner with.

Couple of news today in the ESPN world:
ESPN and MLB reached a long-term extension for 7 years
And ESPN has reached a long-term agreement with Spain's La Liga for the next 8 seasons (through the 2028-29 season). The deal includes the broadcast rights in Canada on TSN and RDS. The new deal will kick starting in the 2021-22 season.

I wonder if NBC, CBS, FOX or Turner might want to sweep in and pick up those games.

Kate Bilo posted on her Instagram story that they are making some changes to the studio. Now the weather room is behind the area where Don Bell does sports. The lightning in the studio looked very different.
Looks like Ukee and Jessica have individual setups in front of separate monitors. It doesn't look like either are in the main studio at all so we may finally see them getting a much needed new set.

This is a good point. The new NHL team in Seattle the Kraken just weeks ago announced that there games will be airing on Root Northwest, the only way to stream it is by paying $80/m for ATT streaming service, Comcast customers (the major cable company for most of WA and OR) don’t even have the ability to stream the channel. This is a team that is connected with Amazon and other high tech companies in Seattle and is a market with a significant amount of cable cutters. If there is a team in any sport anymore aware of OTT it is the Kraken.
Having the ability to watch non NFL pro teams on OTA is wishful thinking at this point, it’s not happening.
I'm surprised Comcast didn't put a bid to be their rights holder either via NBC Sports NW or a new RSN for Seattle. They seem to like having RSNs in regions where they are the dominant cable provider.

I wonder whether NBC will change their graphics package as the current look, except NFL and EPL, is six years old.
They'll probably wait till the 2022 NHL Winter Classic and change everything then...that is if they plan on having one network wide package again which it doesn't look like they intend on doing.
I'm sure they want to keep their EPL broadcasts aligned with the SkySports look, their NFL look is more of an evolution of the 2015 look than anything else so that could change for this upcoming Super Bowl, and they've been slowly rolling out a unique look for the NHL that started way back in 2019 for the Stanley Cup Finals and if they do intend on finishing the look by replacing the scorebar and lower 3rds, then that isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Elizabeth Flores Named Vice President of News for NBC10 and Telemundo62
Flores is coming from WABC-TV, where she has served as Assistant News Director since 2018. Before that, she spent 17 years at WTVJ/WSCV (NBC6/Telemundo 51) in South Florida in various management positions. Her first day in Philly will be on January 11, 2021.
I didn't know Anzio left. This is a good get for the station.

NBC has released their broadcast schedule for the NHL's return of play of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.
That's clearly not the full schedule. I dunno why they'd release this if they don't have the details for all the games for the first two rounds fully pinned down.

NBC Sports Chicago is debuting a new set on the 26th.
That leaves DC as the only RSN with the 2008 set (although they gave it nice refresh a few years ago).

And doesn't (Viacom)CBS -- or the shareholders of -- own almost 3/4ths of Entercom still?
There were some CBS executives (including Les Moonves) that were placed on the Entercom board as part of the spinoff. Their seats were temporary while the new company got on its feet. I dunno if they're still currently there (well we know Les isn't lol) or not but those were the terms.

That totally makes sense.. At least for Philly, it broadens the coverage base.
I want to see which other markets will do what Philly is doing.
One thing is for sure I don't expect NYC or Wash DC to do this just yet.
However, if it works in Philly, than I could see the other NBC O&O's jumping on the philly bandwagon with Entercom.
I think it'll be on a market by market basis. Take LA for example. Hypothetically that cluster could partner up with say KABC but right up the coast, the SF cluster could stay with KPIX.

My guess is local at 6:30.. Hold up. KYW radio doesn't do CBS Evening News?
I know WCBS Radio which is also under the Entercom radio network does CBS Evening news with an extended version at 7PM.
KYW had been simulcasting EN even after the spinoff. IIRC part of the terms of the spinoff were, CBS was to maintain their partnerships with the radio stations for a year and then they were free to do whatever they want. The Philly cluster partnering with NBC 10 is just the first shoe to drop.
That said there's nothing stopping other markets from just reupping with the CBS O&O they were previously aligned with. I think it's safe to say Entercom Philly couldn't wait to be free of CBS3 and the mess they're currently in.

Looks good for the Philadelphia metro area..
Yup. I had a feeling something like this would happen after CBS spun the radio group off. I wonder if KYW will simulcast Nightly News now or stay local at 6:30.

Wow this is big, NBC 10 is partnering with the Entercom Radio cluster in Philly provide weather and share news and traffic.
Get prepared to hear First Alert Weather forecasts and Traffic reports on the Entercom stations, KYW NewsRadio stories on NBC 10.

ESPN is pulling Jessica Mendoza from Sunday Night Baseball.
I see they finally realized having a Mets front office person in their broadcast booth calling national games isn't such a good idea.

Beat me to it, I caught that too. Wonder if she’s filling in for anyone later. All three afternoon/evening ladies were off Friday, and Maggie filled in at 12, 4, and 5, and Alicia was the feature anchor for all 3 shows.
That's my guess. They didn't seem like she was here on a permanent basis. Also Alicia just an FYI feature story so that rules her out from being off.
