Nexstar probably either realized that this was a bad idea, or they received too many viewer complaints.

Kind of dumb when people can watch a stream of WNEP news for free.

Sinclair is "sort of" bringing news to it's remaining stations via Stirr...

    https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/stirr-adds-six-new-stirr-city-channels-for-local-coverage/?source=home

Even St. Louis got it's own.

Have KDNL and WTWC picked up The National Desk, to air as a "morning newscast" before GMA or Today?

    They haven't.

It does air on the "city channel" on Stirr which I think is why they launched those channels. Because outside of The National Desk, there are no local news programs on those channels.

Meanwhile Sinclair also announced that the DTC plans will complement the existing pay-tv services and go more of a hybrid approach https://thestreamable.com/news/sinclair-ceo-says-upcoming-direct-to-consumer-offering-will-complement-to-pay-tv-business

This just a bad idea all around. I can only imagine what the sport teams who had no say in this decision are thinking (especially the Cubs since they jumped in late).

There was a notice that they were moving the NC channel positions to 1 today and renaming it...seems like they're going to make Channel 1 corporate-wide the Spectrum News home.

Does this include News 13 and Bay News 9? Because those name still have a lot of cache in Florida.

KABB is getting a hybrid package, and it's taking longer to iron out the bugs since they're the only station that is going to have it in the group.

I suspect y'all will probably hate it, but stay tuned.

I'm actually surprised it wasn't KABB that got the standard graphics since they're the legacy station in that duopoly.

Wow, picking fights with any of your colleagues is a bad move, especially someone as established and well-respected as Jovita Moore.

Sounds like WSB isn't losing much on the radio side.

I'm going to guess it's a contingency open to run Philly and Pittsburgh if KDKA has to shut down due to the virus now that Pittsburgh is slowly getting out of lockdown. Have to believe a similar open exists at KDKA in case of vice-versa.

I'm sure what happened at the CBS Broadcasting Center in New York had all the O&O's evaluating their contingency plan. Makes sense that the back up for KDKA would be KYW since they're in the same state.

With the gradual re-opening of the economy, still-closed restaurants in some places decided to take it upon themselves to reopen in full force regardless of the orders in place (with the proper "social distancing" protocols in place, of course)

One in Spanish Fort Alabama, decided to reopen and got their hand slapped by the state health department.

    WPMI:

    https://mynbc15.com/news/local/alabama-health-department-briefly-shuts-down-restaurant-in-baldwin-county

Why would I be posting this story here?

Because if you read the WPMI story, the restaurant in question is owned by Greg Peterson, who is the primary anchor at WPMI.

Can someone say conflict of interest here?

In fairness, at least the station disclosed that in the story.

That's actually more than I expected a Sinclair station to do.

This is what got him fired by KARE. https://alphanewsmn.com/meterologist-nazi/

I personally agree with his opinion, but I also know Tegna tries as hard as it can to be impartial, especially compared to other station groups. So this obviously isn't a good look for them and hence the result.

But like others have said, hopefully another station will pick him up after all the dust settles.

Sorry folks but this is 2020 and this is New York City. The pandemic and its potential consequences did not suddenly sneak up on us. A news organization of all people could have seen for weeks leading up to this what happened in China, South Korea and Italy. A news organization that has been communicating to the public for weeks the CDC warning that daily life may be interrupted. Did they think they were exempt?

This day and age, given everything this city and this country has been through, there is no excuse to not have a back up plan to get your team on the air from the city you broadcast in.

I understand needing to miss maybe one or two newscasts to get things together but WCBS does not get a pass on this.

This is not about seeing local faces deliver local news (though that should be the goal), this is about being prepared and having a plan that doesn’t involve farming your work out to stations across the country.

I think the reality is that this is the plan in action. As long as WCBS is able to get something out to their audience, they don't care how its done. Even if that relies on a team 3000 miles away.

You have to wonder if the people complaining about the size of the font are watching it on the SD feed.

I figured the font size would be one complaint, but I didn't realize how passionate people were about the colors in a newscast.

Curious to see how the ticker will look. Using the ticker from the old package on the new package is definitely not visually appealing.

But gather 'round everyone, and let me tell you a story of the great mass email of 2019.

All of our email addresses end in fox4kc --dot--com. Most are firstname.lastname - at - fox 4 kcdotcom. The assignment desk has "news" at fox4kc-dot--com. But those are just shadow email addresses. Under Tribune, we were logging into computers, workday, outlook, etc., with (username #2) at tribunemedia-dot-com. This week Nexstar began migrating our accounts to its servers. Now we corporate accounts that are (username #3) at nexstar-dot-tv. Unbeknownst to us, news --at--nexstar dot-tv is a mass email to all the newsrooms. No one had ever told us that. When you combine a sleepy, medicated employee, some confusion that already existed over which username to use, and throw in another account name to remember, then I'm surprised this didn't happen earlier. Ironically, we never received the mass email, because Nexstar had not added the Tribune newsrooms to that group yet.

Basically what some of us are doing right now is:

    1. Logging into computers using account #1 at tribunemedia...

    2. Logging into outlook for email using account #2 at nexstar....

    3. ...so that we can send emails using accounts that end in fox4kc dot-com....

4.. ...and some of us still have to log into the newsroom software using old wdaftv4--dot--com addresses.

I can keep it all straight, but some co-workers cannot.

Sounds like a recipe for something exactly like this to happen.

That said, this story is a pleasant break from the rest of the news. Especially this week.

  14. I can't help but notice how similar the graphics look to what's been rolling out on the Meredith stations (especially the L3s).

That's especially interesting since there are at least two markets where Meredith and Scripps both compete (Phoenix and KC).

We got another one...and there's a common denominator here.

AT&T and Sinclair with a deadline of next Friday.

Oh darn, guess I can't watch the news on KDNL then. 😉

Seriously though, this will impact markets a lot harder than St. Louis. Columbus comes to mind with Ohio State being on Sinclair stations there.

No guys, not a new package. This is just the integration of the CBSN New York package into all newscasts.

Ick, I hope not. That would be a huge downgrade compared to their current package.

I think you're right though sadly.

They debuted at noon today. Anyone recognize the music?

Overall fairly nice. I like the set better than the graphics, but I'd say the graphics are fresher and better than their old look.

I like the design but the accent colors ruin it. Too much red and ugly shade of yellow, especially in the weather graphics. The open is nice, but I don't like how it quickly shows the title slate and then goes to the slogan. Wish it stayed put.

I do like how the transitions animate and how the lower thirds look. Kinda similar to their old look. They expand or collapse their length based on the amount of text. The ticker is way too big though. It's almost the same size as the main super line. Interestingly, it seems like the live bug is just like their old version.

Nothing against the standard Nexstar CBS affiliates graphics package but it's nice to see that a large market station like KOIN will have something that is somewhat still unique in comparison.

When a lot of Phoenix videos started showing up, I really gained an appreciation for how dowdy KPHO's product was as the 80s turned into the 90s. They really did start getting serious with the February '94 refresh (Fresh News and new graphics). They knew KNXV was coming into town — actually, their first show would have aired July 7, 1994, if the affiliation switch had not caused changes (they opted to reset a bit, and the first News 15 aired August 1).

They say KNXV toned down its product to adjust for the fact they'd be an ABC, not a Fox, affiliate. Could you imagine? As it was, the early KNXV product shook the market. I think they would have blown KPHO out of the water within months.

If I remember correctly, I think that the KNXV newscast was originally going to be based off of then-sister Fox affiliate in Kansas City. This is what those newscasts looked like.

In comparison, the newscasts that KNXV started with are definitely a lot more toned down.

Go to 1:46 to see the start of the newscast.
