  1. ...And they're distributing this new channel on Roku, something I wish a lot of other diginets did to make themselves available in markets that don't carry them.

Putting it on broadcast TV is like selling someone a texting plan for their landline phone...

They do the same thing with Comet which has become a new guilty pleasure of mine (mainly because I can get my Mystery Science Theater 3000 fix).

The funny thing though is that even though it's a network owned by Sinclair, the St. Louis affiliate of it is on KPLR 11.3.

  2. No, really, could you please stop? We know where you stand. It's okay to disagree about facts, just ask the president.

Amen to that. Obviously we're all going to have to agree to disagree.

The only reason we're even debating about this is because our President is the one that keeps bringing it up.

  3. And if the reheating of "Pizzagate" wasn't enough....

WGCL 46 CBS Atlanta's "embarrassment of the month" is at it again saying that ISIS was a creation of the government...And he needs $50,000 to tell us how!

    Here's the story from FTVLive

    http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/1/25/atlanta-reporter-the-us-government-intentionally-created-isis

I only hope that he signed a hell of a contract with Meredith so Sinclair doesn't get a hold of this wacko.....

I'd say that this guy is hurting WGCL's ratings but that would mean they had any to begin with.

But seriously, is there anyway WGCL could theoretically terminate his contract when he does shenanigans like this?

  4. Neat little tidbit of information:

Out of the lower 48 states -- Nexstar now has an audience/voice in 45.

Wyoming, Idaho and Maine are the ONLY three states where a Nexstar signal does not reach. (WWLP reaches the southern fringes of NH according to the FCC's contour map)

    ?format=1000w

Where did this map come from? It looks like it's missing a few stations (KRON, WISH, WOWK, KRQE), in addition to a whole state (Hawaii and KHON).

As far as the endtag, I've noticed that some stations have it customized to their markets and other stations just have a generic "national" version. I guess Nexstar decided to leave it up to each station on how they wanted to handle it.

  5. Sinclair is really running the gauntlet big time, here's what's going on.

    Translation:

The debt is stacking up and ad revenues are much lower than we thought so now we have to cut costs wherever we can. I feel this is just the beginning.

Welcome to the next Clear Channel (err...iHeartMedia).

  6. Can't wait to see what WCMH's new URL will be.

    WeAreBrutusStrong DOT com?

    ScarletAndGrayMatters DOT com?

    CaringAboutThe614 DOT com?

The sad thing is that they're only slightly less stupid than WSYX's actual website address:

    abc6onyourside.com

  7. So why did WMBB have to use an external company to live-stream their coverage? Here's their response from their facebook page:

It is a good thing they have that capability to stream in emergency situations....this was an unfortunate occurrence that happened to happen before a major event.

For whatever reason, probably well above them by Nexstar Corporate, it's a rarity to see ANY Nexstar stream their newscasts online. WMBB, and other acquisitions used to stream regularly. They are not only missing out on reaching viewers, but by selling online advertising, and giving outside viewers a sampling of their product AND/OR vital information when they are away or unable to watch on TV.

Once the Media General stations come aboard, here's hoping the masses will force Nexstar to abandon their strategy of poorly-named websites and lack of streaming video.

Playing at this level will hopefully change their ways and give the viewers what they want and deserve.

KLAS streams their newscasts on the NewsON app only for some reason. But I agree, Nexstar is way behind the curve when it comes to streaming newscasts and I can only imagine that this is only helping their competition in the long-run. Hopefully when this merger finally goes though, they just use the web department from Media General since their stations actually knew how to make a decent-looking website with streaming ability.

  8. But down the road, you have WTWC, the southern equivalent of KDNL, our favorite non-news producing Sinclair station of all time.

That's not true. They produce "The Allman Report" which is technically considered a news program...although in reality it's just a right-wing talk radio program on TV.

The real interesting thing about Sinclair's Tallahassee duopoly though is that the Fox affiliate that Sinclair owns does have newscasts but they're produced by WCTV (aka: The reason WTWC's newscasts never succeeded in the market). I'm wondering if Sinclair is going to keep the status quo or use it's newly formed duopoly to start up a news operation of their own.

  9. KMYU is so far out of the main SLC market Sinclair will definitely claim a failing station waiver rather easily (and MyNet is the ultimate security blanket in keeping a station out of the top four which would kill a deal). Without Sinclair it either becomes spectrum bait or goes back to the dark days of 2009 when it was running Retro TV to few. Worse comes to worse the St. George transmitter gets LD'ed to cover only St. George proper and the deal easily goes through.

I'm wondering if they would be able to treat KJZZ as a satelite of KMYU since the coverage areas of both signals don't overlap each other at all. Right now KMYU's programming is on a subchannel of KUTV in the Wasatch Front.

  10. Talk about corporate spin

Yeah, that was a tad overkill. Usually stations doing similar stories like would highlight the history of the station and where the future is taking them but this is the first that I saw that kisses up to the owners of the station so much. But I guess since it's the flagship station, we shouldn't be too surprised.

  11. Sinclair's Wisconsin stations were ordered to air an extended 25 minute Trump interview with Sharyl Atkisson during their Sunday newscasts. I guess we now know which candidate Sinclair execs like the most

    http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2016/4/4/sinclair-turns-stations-over-to-trump

    Considering that he's the Republican front-runnner, I can't say I'm surprised.

Flagship station WBFF Fox 45 in Baltimore celebrates 45 years on air. Article includes video.

    http://foxbaltimore.com/news/cover-story/wbff-celebrates-45-years-on-air

Setting aside the fact they're basically a propaganda outfit for the Republicans, you do have to give WBFF credit from turning itself from an independent station with no news department into a major Fox affiliate with a growing news department.

Congrats to WBFF on 45 years.

WLUK has done all they can to stay away from the "Fox News" stereotype as much as possible for years...they must've wanted to throw up disclaimers that corporate would never want. Milwaukee and Green Bay though really had no say without in-house news departments, though they have the big advantage of nobody watching them on Sunday morning at all so it was easily buried.

According to FTVLive, it sounds like they tried to get interviews from the other candidates in order to give it some sign of "balance". You can tell that they haven't been a Sinclair station for long because balance isn't a 4-letter word to them like it is to the corporate folks in Hunt Valley.

  12. KSDK is actually pretty good.

Compared to the 90s they aren't. KSDK and KMOV always used to be neck and neck in the ratings and usually KSDK was the winner more often than KMOV was. That changed in the mid 2000's as mismanagement drove the station further down in the ratings allowing KMOV to establish a more solid foothold as the dominant station in the market. Now that KMOV is starting to be mismanaged, both KSDK and KTVI are taking advantage of the situation and now all 3 stations are in a deadheat.

This is a bit of a surprise! Could Mike Bush or maybe Kay Quinn be next?

From what I heard, Mike Bush was also eligible for the buyout. Some reason he didn't take it, I guess since he's the lead anchor he feels he's in a good spot there.

BTW: Here is video of the announcement they made during Friday's 6pm newscast: http://www.ksdk.com/weather/announcement-from-cindy-and-mike/135678263

  13. International Edition:

I stumbled on this discovery on Youtube. Apparently it looks like someone at TV3 in Malaysia really likes RTL in The Netherlands because not only did they copy their open, they also copied their graphics and their set.

Credit to Bintro on Youtube for first noticing this.

  14.

Makes sense, that does seem to be the standard cookie-cutter set that Nexstar uses for their stations in small markets. I will give them credit though for building an actual news department at WZDX similar to what they did with WFXR (actually they're pretty much carbon copies of each other).

But I will say that RocketCityNow is a pretty cheesy name for a website, even by Nexstar standards.

  15. Columbus' Deal with Time Warner is up and to be honest it wasn't popular with the fans so Sinclair coming and offering a New TV contract might not be a bad thing for them to do.

Looks like Sinclair thought it was a good idea as well.

The new deal will make WWHO the flagship station while still simulcasting the games on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. Time Warner Cable is still handling the production of the games as well. This means that ASN won't be involved.

  16. Probably Sinclair or Nexstar.

My bet is on Nexstar. Turning from a small-to-mid market (leaning towards small) TV company to acquiring stations in large markets (Tampa will now be their largest after Salt Lake used to be their last biggest market, not include the CW affiliate in Phoenix) is probably going to prove to be disastrous for Nexstar one way or another. Either they're going to bleed money or run these stations into the ground AND THEN bleed money as a result.

As much as I give Sinclair crap all the time, at least they have experience operating stations in mid-size markets. Las Vegas is a good example. Nexstar got rid of KLAS's news helicopter the second they acquired the station while Sinclair kept the one KSNV has and started airing more promos about how Sky3 provides covers Southern Nevada "like no other station" a result (an obvious dig at KLAS).

  17. So why is Florida markets like WPB (WPTV 5/WPEC 12 - Sat./WPBF 25) and Orlando (WESH 2/WKMG 6 - Sat./WFTV 9) are up at 5:00am on weekends? Plus, why are markets like Boston and Los Angeles and Chicago and Philadelphia and... you get the point by now.

The one I really don't get is WFTV having a noon newscast on the weekends when their isn't any sports programming. Can anyone explain the logic on that one?
