  1. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/17943826/ Here is the newscast as well. Interesting lineup!
  2. Yeah I watched it, such a beautiful sendoff they did for her. It was especially nice to see the ending part, don't think I've ever seen anything quite as remarkable as that! What an epic way to send her off! Leslie had a great run on KABC, though, I'm personally not a LA native or viewer, I'd always see the clips of KABC when comparing them with WABC, she was definitely a star! She will be so missed!!
  3. https://abcnews.go.com/US/abc-preempts-jimmy-kimmel-live/story?id=125690074 It's on the GMA website. I guess they want to be very delicate with this story only because they are the face of it. So they don't want it easily accessible. Nonetheless, the decision to pull the plug on Jimmy Kimmel for that particular reason was egregious to me, but it's not shocking that all the shows he's done leading up to today couldn't mean that he was not under the radar already. What he said about the shooter, in my opinoin was very wreckless on his part. Especially since the situation has just occurred, and people are still mourning. ABC is playing it safe, especially since they have been under the radar lately with the administration already given what has happened. They just settled a defamation suit, so the least they need now is another lawsuit. Still, I'm willing to bet that it probably wasn't that particular statement alone on Monday night. He was probably in hot water the entire time, and they (the FCC, nextstar and etc) used this moment to take action and set a precedent for everyone else. The media does have a role to play in all of this words can be damaging. Lately, Jimmy Kimmel's shows have been mostly bashing the administration and their antics, while he is free to say what he wants to say, but when you "poke the bear" enough, the bear will eventually attack back, and it seems like this is what is playing out. Yes, while we are in a country that promotes free speech, free speech is not necessarily a protected right. There are consequences for it. But, I do hope that the show returns, maybe some sort of apology or compromise can be done to unify the sides together. Maybe Kimmel could invite Trump on his show lol. Late night, talk shows need not be so heavily focused on the government and politics; Do some light commentary and a little political satire, but he kept going on and on all the time, it's a bit annoying find some other things to poke fun at, in my opinion.
  4. Yeah, the bottom photo is definitely a composite image with the headshots put together, whereas the top one is a group photo. Which is why the lighting is also different. I prefer the outfits in the group photo and the group photo in general.
  5. Even 24 years later, a generation later, the horror and the pain and the scope of 9/11 continues to endure. It actually feels worse now to watch the events unfold than it did years ago because of the scope of the disaster and how much we know now than we did at that time. So, I don't expect it to end anytime soon actually, and here's why: The effects of this tragedy rocked the world as we know it, to some degree, every bit of modern society to this very moment has some recollection of the day. It changed how we do life. So for that reason alone, it's an event that will never be and never should be forgotten. It was arguably one of the darkest days in modern history. Until we collectively overcome this as a human race maybe in several hundred years, I don't see these ceremonies ending in my lifetime. The ceremonies will probably evolve when they feel right to, but I don't see it ending at least not in our lifetimes. It's kinda like how COVID "ended" our relationship with the disease evolved its still very well around but we've learned how to live with it in our shadows. One would argue, why don't we do a COVID memorial every year? The pain of 9/11 however is a different type of pain, though its a pain that was born through evil acts. And that kind of pain is far more greater in my opinion. Even though I don't personally know anyone affected. I feel the pain and the grief of those who were involved because these were ordinary people like us here, just having a normal day, who went to work and never came back home and that's why it's so painful and heartbreaking and why we continue to commemorate the lost every year. The victims families have to live with this day in and day out, the grief is with them forever so its a way to remind them that we are with them and we feel them as well. But going back on topic here, it seems like all the stations aired the ceremonies as expected and the programs were pre-empted or aired on the digital sub channels as it has been for the last 24 years.
  6. They always end up doing it, its probably an oversight in the guide or something.
  7. https://www.instagram.com/p/DM0vcYypS-N/ The big switch is so compelling that even former 7 News Anchor, Mike Marza felt compelled to announce it on his IG page from his new home here in New York haha.
  8. Now that the ABC and WABC operations are in one building, we are now seeing the shared resources (talent included) for both national and local productions. Jeff Smith and Lee Goldberg have appeared on World News Tonight many times now. Yesterday also marked Lee's 29th year with WABC. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMskm6OMA3_/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=YWoxeDRjYmY0dWJ0
  9. Well, it's the summer and not much is happening in the stations these days, so this our defacto banter to keep the board and presence alive . Its also a way to speculate future talent changes and lineups, which a lot of us seem to be interested in over the years since the inception of these forums. We used to even have dedicated threads about specific talents which we've long stopped doing.
  10. As of last night, (not sure for the rest of the week) but the regular team was on for the 11pm show. Mike and Sade were back on the air last night, along with Lee Goldberg and Ryan Field. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/17267536/ Wild how now we can seemingly just go to the site and just find the newscast of our liking and watch. Sign of the times!
  11. Wow thats A LOT of airtime from that building haha how do they fit all of those sets there? I'd imagine they have spaces below ground too? The studios are rather large so I wonder how they fit them all into the building.
  12. The new set looks great! It's a bit of a shame that they can no longer interact with a live audience anymore. I guess the rival Today Show will be the sole show that has this card now at 30 Rock. Nonetheless, it's a significant improvement; the studios at 7 Hudson are quite nice. Maybe without the distraction of the street audience and fanfare, it will be a more polished and focused product and environment for employees and stakeholders. The only gripe so far, is that, the show is supposed to represent America, not New York City, and lately ABC's national news shows have been too New York Centric, while I agree that New York is America's largest city and is arguably the crown jewel city for the country, I think they should try to do a dynamic backdrop that shows every city or perhaps do a blend of the skylines of different cities like CNN does for their Morning Show or even Good Morning Britain which does something of that sort to represent America as a whole not just New York. But overall, the studio is incredible, kudos to ABC for fitting all of this into this building it's hard to believe they have all of these large studios in such a small footprint.
  13. Looks like they started today! Nice to see this type of synergy and to see both stations WNBC/WNJU operate from one building. Kudos to them!
  14. Wow! Liz Cho on a Sunday Morning! That is wild haha. Didn't they hire someone from KABC to be on the anchor desk?
  15. The staggered departure of Bill, probably is rooted on production side. What the general audience does not know is that these newscasts, while they may look and feel the same on air, they are all very different productions with different staff, producers, etc, news teams, etc working solely for the 5pm show, the 6pm show likely has different people behind it's production as well.
  16. Yeah, it’s the end of an era indeed. This is exactly how it played out for Bill Beutel in the late 90s until he left the station in 2003. And most of the veteran anchors stayed on the 6 p.m. show till their final days. Bill Ritter, now his replacement from 2003, is now 75, so it’s understandable that he's slowly beginning his departure from the career. Hopefully, he stays till 2030! What a solid anchor and face he has been for WABC.
  17. Haha, as a nod to KABC, maybe we can take a piece of their identity by signing off as ABC 7 Eyewitness News, considering they took a piece of ours by pretty much using our music theme now. , the last time this was done was back in 2004. These days the ABC O&Os and affiliates often share resources when WABC uses KABC's reporters, especially for bigger stories that take place on the west and east coast's largest cities (wildfires, natural disasters, etc) and vice versa, they usually sign off as "ABC 7" Eyewitness News.
  18. Maybe for now this is what the producers feel is right for the show. Also each broadcast is operated by different producers and etc, so what may work for the 11pm broadcast probably doesn't work for the 4, 5 and 6 broadcasts, which I also believe are different, etc..
  19. Wow she was a great talent! Thats a bummer! –Im kinda not surprised though, her personality was just too big for the role she had. So I'm sure she'll land somewhere pretty quick.
  20. The last time they did a talent open was for the Giant Octopus designed graphics package (2012-2016) those were another set of amazing graphics for WABC at the time. When they switched to their preceding graphics package, they stopped doing the talent intros for the weekday 11 pm broadcasts, I guess they need more airtime to deliver more stories in the 35 min window. But I believe on the weekends they do the talent opens as those broadcasts are longer. Those graphics were quite stunning at the time. And honestly they could still work today. Obviously what they have now is better but at the time those were pretty nice!
  21. Oh wow so that is the shakeup we were all eluding to for a while! We did all say that this day could come last year! Its an end of an era, and it a sign of the times. Bill Ritter was and continues to be a staple of Eyewitness News but he will be tremendously missed at the 11pm, I remember when he and Diana were anchoring back in the early 2000s in the years post 9/11 they were setting the stage for greatness it seemed like they wouldve been there forever till Diana stepped down to do exactly what Bill is doing today, to be more present and with family before ultimately leaving the show. I can see him leaving and retiring in 5 more years! As for Eyewitness News this Morning well we'll have to see what happens but its a big shakeup. But its a fitting role for Pedro considering his experience in morning TV during his days in LA and Mike is now setting the stage to become WABCs lead anchor as we all expected. Mike's stepping into some huge shoes!
  22. Oh wow that's exciting! Something to look forward to as the weather inevitably gets warmer! Wild to see the difference between the outgoing and new studios, glad to know that it's the same designer, at least it retains some familiarity in that way. When you see the rendering of the outgoing set, you do see the age, especially with the tiled background, which was popular in the 2010s. The new set is more refined, cleaner, and just refreshing. I also like the new Wordmark or typeface they used for "EYEWITNESS NEWS" in the new set's rendering. If they actually had switched to that, it would make WABC and KABC uniform but clearly they decided to keep their identities. Thanks for sharing those renders!
  23. It might help to note that WPVI's Action News is actually a format of its own. Which fewer stations use compared to WABC's approach. So WPVI's presentation is aligned with their format. The "Action News" format differs slightly from the "Eyewitness News" format. In the Action News, certain dynamics such as time requirements, storytelling, etc, have to be followed, reporters don't dwell too much on the stories, to keep the news going and be able to cover more stories, so you'll probably here less fill in talk and more direct storytelling, whereas with the Eyewitness News format, there is more of a deeper dive which allows for more captivating presentations, fill in words, empathy, "happy talk" etc to be embedded within the show. Whereas with the Action News it's more straight to the point and quick which could be better for some audiences. 24. Yeah I dunno, I get that the ad-lib and personal biases can impact the integrity of the broadcast, but at the same time, it is sorta the thing that makes them human really, and can occasionally make the story captivating and compelling at a time where the attention span of people is pretty short.
  25. They did it a couple of days ago when they debuted the studio for the 4 pm show. Well, they did it during a going-on-break bumper shot when I had rewatched it. It was a nice aesthetic. I'd imagine they probably won't do these shots forever, so we should enjoy them while it lasts as the novelty of the new space wears off and they return to the regular live shots, etc.. It reminded me of the classic way of doing the news where they would show the anchors talking before the break, that was a nice touch. :). Regarding Bill Ritter’s ad-libs during the broadcasts, it is important to note that he is a seasoned veteran and a legendary figure in the New York market. His industry reputation allows him to incorporate these ad-libs into the show without disrupting its flow. By doing so, I think he enhances the overall value of the production. A lot of veteran anchors similarly did this, similar to Bill Beutel when he was there before he passed he had his signature closing remark at the end of the 6 pm shows in the '90s. Chuck Scarborough did the same before he departed from WNBC, and the same with retired anchor, Jim Gardner on WPVI before his departure. Bill's a sentimental and empathetic guy, you see it in his presentation and reporting, especially after 9/11 which gripped him and many of the reporters and journalists here in New York. It's not an easy market, this city requires a lot of hard work and diligence to survive here. So naturally the reporters and anchors are just raw and heavy-hearted from all the years of tough storytelling. Personally, I like the adlib it really provides a sense of authenticity to the broadcast and adds an extra level of depth and value to the show.
