  1. How is this still an issue, since News Corporation is a separate company from "New Fox?" Is it the fact that the Murdoch family is still involved in both? Or is it tied to WWOR's license in Secaucus and the un-doing by Fox of it's New Jersey focus and operations?
  2. Sadly, it seems Sinclair has been slowly chipping that away. Last year when they were short in the weather department, they would either let the weekend anchor read it or have WEAR pre tape their forecasts. Maybe a potential benefit could be having either Dan Shugart or Steve Nissim do a daily sports segment. WPMI hasn't had a full-time sportscaster since Lance Crawford left earlier this year. WKRG under Nexstar has really ramped up their presence in Northwest Florida, hiring several "digital journalists" to cover the area exclusively. Plus, they are the only other station in the market to do sports, and have two anchors. Longtime anchor Randy Patrick and weekend sports anchor/sports Overtime host Robby Baker. Could be another insurance policy if/when Randy Patrick decides to retire.
  3. WMYD is currently the only "host" station in 3.0. It currently has the 5 streams on it....which seems like a lot, because the ones i've seen have only up to 3 on them. CBS may choose to either convert WKBD or WWJ to 3.0 as well in the future. It's just a matter of shoehorning the existing 1.0 content onto available space between the participants.
  4. WPMI NBC 15 was back in the studio this morning doing normal newscasts. It must have been a widespread quarantine for them to be having WEAR handle it for an entire week. For any exclusive times or for any "bumped" newscasts on WPMI they did produce separate ones, otherwise they were simulcast on WEAR during the times when both stations are doing news. I hate to say it, but watching these could be a glimpse of the future IF Sinclair ever decides to shut down the Mobile operation and do everything out of Pensacola. It sort of had that WSAZ vibe to it.
  5. I think the implications from such a service are far worse for those currently employed by FOX, and the future of local weather in these places.....as opposed to any "bias" that such a service may provide. They need to look back at Sinclair's "News Central" failure, which botched severe weather in many places when it was operating at the time.
  6. As long as they don't start bundling the "Horse Shopping Channel" into the regular lineup! (it's a real thing on Sinclair's STIRR OTT app, and they really promote it on their stations' airwaves!)
  7. It appears that WPMI is "somewhat" back in their studios as of yesterday. They have had anchors and weather people in their studio, but the shows are still being run out of WEAR. It looks like they may have taken a personnel hit from this COVID case that shut down the station. It's possible the crew could be in quarantine that normally runs their newscasts.
  8. Separate operations, aside from Master Control and other hubbed functions done from Pensacola and elsewhere. It looks like they produced separate pre-recorded newscasts for WPMI yesterday. They had Rachael Wilkerson anchoring from a remote location (they have a bureau in Loxley, AL, roughly halfway between Mobile and Pensacola) and the other segments originating from WEAR. Since ABC had football, they did their own WEAR newscast as before. On Friday, they simply added anchor Kym Anderson from the bureau alongside the WEAR anchors (in boxes), and the it was simulcast on both stations. The WPMI 10pm show simply cut off at 10:35 to join the Tonight Show, while WEAR continued as normal as they do for their hour-long 10pm show.
  9. More bad news for Hulu subcribers, your Sinclair-owned CBS affiliates could be going away. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/hulu-could-lose-some-sinclair-owned-locals/?source=home At least with the OTT deals, they tend to be divided by affiliation....which was likely the linchpin of getting these stations on these services to begin with.
  10. And scrolling back through this thread, Dish has had multiple spats with the sidecars before the main Nexstar spat. Dish is just such a horrible company to begin with. It needs to go away. AT&T needs to spin off DirecTV into the company it once was and unify the two into a reputable satellite TV operator. There are too many options out there to even consider this as a monopoly, especially with all of the OTT options that have been introduced in the last several years.
  11. This blackout only involves the Nexstar-owned stations on Dish. The shared websites only say that the Nexstar station is the one involved in the dispute. WYTV doesn't have a warning at all, since they're owned and programmed by Vaughan Media, while WKBN & WYFX are blacked out. KOLR is also unaffected due to their ownership by Mission, but their Nexstar counterparts KOZL and KRBK are off Dish.
  12. WEAR is temporarily producing newscasts for their cross-market "competitor" WPMI, as they have had a COVID-19 case shut down the station. Back in March, WPMI did the same for WEAR when they had a station employee test positive.
  13. In the scheme of things, DTC sports is long overdue. So much of the price of cable/satellite TV has been driven up by the cost of live sports, as well as the added "RSN Fees" that have been tacked on to virutally every cable/satellite bundle in existence. Let the fans pay for it, and if they can't, then it's time for the sports leagues to come back down to reality.
  14. And right at 8/7 central, Nexstar went dark on Dish. https://deadline.com/2020/12/dish-nexstar-blackout-carriage-dispute-wgn-america-1234636844/
  15. Here's hoping on the other local streams. KTLA, KWGN, KPLR, WTVW and the other Nexstar CW affiliates are noticeably absent, and if they re-up with WPIX, it stays since it was added under Scripps. While WGN Chicago is absent, YTTV not only carries CW26, but also Weigel's "The U" subchannel as well! Bonus points if "Antenna TV" is carried as well sometime in the near future.
  16. Another "blow" to Sinclair. YouTubeTV is dropping the Tennis Channel. This one hurts really bad, and I"m sure a lot of viewers will be sad over this one. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/youtube-tv-is-dropping-the-tennis-channel/?fbclid=IwAR3Tuy34Ds3UIGAPpH5_4UOGngdHI2jqFXk1lC-uVFSfLHjPBWOV48NncKs Now with the sarcasm aside, I do wonder what the future holds for Sinclair's affiliates on YouTubeTV. They are one of the few groups that allows a majority of their CW & MyNetworkTV stations to be carried, with very few exceptions. It's only a matter of time before they get into a spat like Nexstar has with their ABC affiliates and Hulu Live.
  17. Great news about WMC and WVUE. I wonder if it's even possible for WOIO/WUAB to go UHF with a full-powered signal? WVUE is free-and-clear for me on 29, so when I can pick up New Orleans, it comes in pretty well...now it will be even better! So is WTVY on 36, but they are an established blowtorch at maximum power and are one of the tallest towers in the nation! (it's the tallest structure in the state of Florida).
  18. Bottom line is, you've seen one Nexstar station, you've seen them all. They have gotten quite good at bicycling stories between adjacent markets. And then there's NewsNation.
  19. I could remotely understand this for out-of-town viewers, but at least make it free for people who live inside the market, for pete's sake! On the other hand, they have the NewsNation debacle and have done little to make WGN America available outside of cable and satellite. What a seriously misguided strategy they have.
  20. The only reason WISH ended up with CW in the first place was because Tribune had too much on their plate at the time when they stole CBS from WISH and LIN/Media General. Now that Nexstar took over WISH and they ended up being spun off to DuJuan McCoy when Nexstar traded up to WTTV/WXIN, it's basically a news-intensive independent station. The gravy train may never come and the best option may be to opt for must-carry status to get themselves back on satellite.
  21. WISH is also not available on YouTubeTV or Hulu Live. It seems that the cable companies are the only ones carrying DuJuan McCoy's stations. It seems the smaller owners are just as bad than the mega-ones with the blackouts, but they have to deal with the mega-companies since they have little to no clout to negotiate on a larger scale.
  22. For all of the flack WKYC gets for out-sucking the other Tegna stations, at least they have once again a piece of their past to be very proud about, Leon Bibb. He always will be the "poet laureate" of Cleveland television. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmdvDmy5vII&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1rNyKhrR_3Hm3WPHtIbymUisVS8Hj14_fnkyy1kXBsD8laQPcA_tmRdN8
  23. It is a shame considering the effort that SagamoreHill put into the newscast over the past several years. And they hired a lot of market veterans from across the region and country, including former WVTM Ganeral Manager Gene Kirkconnell (who is now the News Director at WRBL) and Don Hammond, who has been a primary anchor at many stations across the country. The advantage here is to leverage themselves to the Alabama viewers, who live an hour behind the rest of the market. They have to put up with shows being on an hour early, especially in the morning, where the network shows aren't tape delayed for their time like the most of Central time. Getting WSFA has been the solution, and now that NBC is also under the same company (Gray) in Columbus, GA, it could mean choosing to simulcast WSFA instead of WTVM, since WSFA has traditionally been available on the Alabama side of the market, all the way to the state line. They hold the cards now, and it would be in the best interest of WSFA viewers should WLTZ kick them off cable in these areas.
  24. On paper, it's Comcast dropping the "extra" Hearst stations from mostly external markets. But I do agree that some of these moves will be controversial, especially if viewers are losing an "in-state" voice, especially in New Hampshire. And some of these moves directly benefit Comcast, when stations like WBAL and WGAL are dropped, well, the stations that remain are owned by Comcast, who has to negotiate with Xfinity. Gee, I wonder when that dispute will ever happen?
  25. Next year, it will be a decade since Media General dropped Retro TV (RTV) in favor of MeTV in many of their markets at the time. Would it be safe to assume that this could be the next wave of Antenna TV agreements, barring any existing commitments they would have in their respective markets? Sinclair picked up a lot of Antenna TV affiliations in recent years, I wonder if they would be willing to pick up MeTV should Nexstar exercise the right to carry Antenna TV?
