  1. By the way, here's the above newscast in its entirety:
  2. That Vimeo channel is a great find. Among the uploads so far is another farewell by Carol Marin -- the final edition of her 10 p.m. WBBM newscast, an ill-fated experiment from 2000 intended to bring more in-depth, issue-focused reporting to commercial television. You'll find her concluding remarks at the 29:35 mark:
  3. This was posted here many years ago, but since we're on the subject of Ron Magers' early Chicago career, it's perhaps worth revisiting... KTCA, the PBS station in the Twin Cities, aired a long, thoughtful report about Magers several months after he had moved from KSTP to WMAQ:
  4. KOOL, Phoenix; 10 p.m. weekend news, 1982:
  5. That's a great find! And since the article mentions former World News Tonight co-anchor Max Robinson, are there any clips from his WMAQ stint available online? I don't remember ever seeing any. And does anyone know how he and Magers ended up dividing their shifts?
  6. WMAQ, Chicago; 10 p.m., 1984; BTW, both anchors would eventually join WLS -- Linda Yu that same year and Ron Magers 14 years later:
  7. This 1980 KTVK open has been reuploaded to YouTube:
  8. Here is the Sky News (UK) version of the promo above:

  10. Narrator: Shepard Smith is 57 years old.
  11. From Chicago, a 2000 promo for WGN's 9 p.m. news:
  12. And here's the 10 p.m. news, where Bill Close had already been replaced by Dave Patterson:
  13. And here's the launch of their new, in-house newscast: Here's a part of the YouTube description from Emarsee, who uploaded the clip:
  14. KTSP (now KSAZ), Phoenix; 6 p.m., 1988 -- the tail end of the Bill Close era:
  15. A compilation of current news opens in Europe's Celtic languages (Breton, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Irish):
  16. Here's News 12 Long Island with coverage of the crash of Avianca Flight 52 in 1990:
  17. Time Warner Cable's local news for Staten Island, 2001:
