I recently found very rare video of KIEM during their "Eyewitness News" era and CBS affiliation. These videos were uploaded by Jon Crane who was a KIEM reporter during that period. You can view a video of KIEM by clicking on and a news open can be seen at 5:54.

I found a couple of rare WPVI clips from the 1970s. (1) - This video starts with a news open that was used on WTVD, WKBW and other Capital Cities stations during the 1970s. (2) - This video, uploaded by longtime WPVI/WFLA news anchor Bob Hite, contains a segment from one of his newscasts during his tenure at WPVI. It contains a news open that WPVI used during that period.

I recently found out something. The theme that KENS used from VTS Productions during the 1980s and the 1990s could be connected to the "Clearly The One" campaign that the station used during the 1980s. In fact, I believe that the KENS theme could be titled "Clearly The One" since KENS aired promos under that name. I'm including a link to each video that includes the four-note "Clearly The One" signature. The new graphics they have look amazing than their previous ones, but they kept their logo except the '57' font was modified. You can see their first HD newscast at http://www.wkyt.com/wymt/video.

The theme used in a KGUN newscast close from 1980 is "And You" by Telesound.

- This video file contains a number of news stories from 1986 concerning the FNB purchase of BBT. One clip to note is a KSLA news open from that year. You can see it at 6:09.

I recently dug up an audio clip of a WBOY news open from 1989 with ID at the beginning and open at :07. You can hear it at http://www.matthewsittel.com/ids/mp3/wboy12id89.mp3 and it is leading me to believe that Tuesday Productions did the music piece. USA Network used this piece of music to open its sports telecasts during the early to mid 1980s. I also found video of USA Sports using the package. Found 2 rare news clips from Macon, GA and they both include news opens: - WMAZ 1984 clip of a story about gambling at the police FOP lodge (open is at 1:26), also included is a WGXA clip of the news story with open at 10:44. - WGXA 1983 clip of Macon police chief Ray Pope's termination (open is at :31, features former WFLA "Daytime" host, Dave Nemeth)

"America Today" - INFO: The theme heard in the clipped opening is "It's All Right Here" which was used on stations like WLKY in Louisville and KPNX in Phoenix. It incliudes the Gannett closer at the end. I have never heard of the show, but it looks to me like this was a short news program that aired during the 1980s on all of Gannett's television stations including WLVI in Boston.

WTVX "News Source 34" - 1/16/1983 ( ) Info: This is another rare newscast from WTVX, West Palm Beach's former CBS affiliate. I am digging the news theme, but I am not sure who composed the theme. Could it be from Jam, Tuesday Productions, or another company? WTVX "News Source 34" - 1/14/1983 ( ) Info: This is a clip containing the final minutes of a WTVX 7pm newscast. I am also digging the WTVX closing theme they used.

WLEX-TV 18, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, unveiled a new graphics package sometime in September. Along with the new graphics package, a new news theme package is being used. Midland High School Homecoming (1985) - Info: This video includes clips from KTPX (KWES) and KMID. Watch for a KMID news close at the end with the voice of Chuck Riley(?). KMID was owned for a brief time in the mid to late 1980s by Lorimar-Telepictures. KOLO-TV 8 News (1984) - Info: This is actually a fake newscast put together by KOLO-TV's news team. Includes the intro for "Eyewitness News: Front Page" which features a great synth piece.

There's more... WVLT-TV 8, the CBS affiliate, aired a promo on Saturday night and noted that "Local 8 News First at 4:00" will air for a full hour starting Monday, September 12th. There could be some new graphics as well, but we'll see what happens come next Monday.
