  1. We take you back to 1991 where KOLR 10 NewsBeat brought you news, weather, sports and all the "color" (as in KOLR) of the Ozarks. Here is a KOLR 11am news open from that period. The open begins with an ID at 1:28 into the video. Here is another KOLR news open from that period. It uses the evening news open. The open for the 6pm starts at 1:44 into the video. That year, KY3's "Action News" opened its midday newscast using "Power News" by 615 Music. The open is seen at 0:26 into the video.
  2. I may be right or wrong, but if you go over to the SouthernMedia's News Music Search Archive website, take a listen to the KWES 2002 Closing Theme. If you take a listen, the theme sounds like a Tuesday Productions piece. In fact, if I am not too badly mistaken, this may very well be part of the KAKE 1988 package done by Tuesday.
  3. WBRZ in Baton Rouge aired a promo in 1982 entitled "Thank Goodness It's Five O'Clock" where they advertised the 5pm "Eyewitness News". The promo utilizes the same WFSB Klein& thematic piece in the bed. Check it out for yourself.
  4. WAVY 10, this is VERY interesting to checkout, because it showcased KFMB and its commitment to covering local news in San Diego. The Call It Home promo was also used on WTRF-TV in Wheeling, West Virginia during the time WTRF became a CBS affiliate switching affiliations with WTOV-TV (then WSTV) which became an NBC affiliate. The Michael Tuck promo in the KFMB video features a cut from their package which was also used to open a newscast on KSAT in San Antonio, TX. However, if I am not too badly mistaken, I believe that "Call It Home" may very well be the name for a Klein& news music package that KSAT, WPLG and others used during that era. I do recall that the news theme contains a 3-note opening signature
  5. From February 3, 1979...we take you to Cincinnati, Ohio where WKRC brings you "Eyewitness 12 News". The newscast was uploaded by former WKRC director and current KSAZ director, Ellis Hart.
  6. We take you back to 1982 where WSOC-TV brings you the "Eyewitness News Hour" with Bill Walker and Doreen Gentzler. You can view the news open from that era at :42 into the video and features an unknown news theme. The entry form submitted by WSOC-TV for entry into the Peabody Awards state: "We are submitting this particular program as an example of coverage of spot news and national news on a local level. The spot news developed during the run of the program: a toxic chemical fire had started across the street from the television station shortly prior to the start of the newscast. As the fire and the newscast progressed, a cloud of toxic fumes wafted over the station building, causing breathing problems for the population in the area. The local disaster officials advised evacuating the building, and we decided to move the television newscast outside the building where we could follow the progress of the fire. It is an example of operating under the heavy pressure of an on-going news development. (The entire last half hour of the news is an example of this). We also covered a national story live from our Washington Bureau dealing with the Charlotte-born wife of a Russian dissident. The reporter had established contacts in Russia when we covered Billy Graham's historic journey to the Soviet Union live last spring." You can view this video at http://quicktime-media.peabody.galib.uga.edu/82055nwt.mov
  7. Here is a WAFF "We're Your Kind of People" promo from 1985. The video is in better quality than previously seen on YouTube. The promo video features WAFF personalities as they go throughout the Tennessee Valley to reach out. We take you to 1980 where former WEAU-TV news personality (now of KTXL) Jim Crandell brings to you a presentation about the high-tech production techniques and equipment that the station had. Take a listen to the first minute of the video as it starts with an image promo about Wisconsin. WEAU used the "Get To Know Us" package from TM Productions during that period.
  8. With all the recent findings of classic news video, here is one that I felt like sharing. From October 27, 1983...here are the final 70 minutes of the Satellite News Channel as recorded on that date. In the two-part video you are about to see, it features the news, weather and sports personalities providing their final moments on SNC before the last story is of the network itself. For over a year, SNC was the competitor to CNN. After SNC signed off, many cable systems in the United States switched over to CNN. Here are a set of reports that aired on WAND and WCIA about the Findlay, IL tornado back in 1990. The beginning of the video contains a partial WAND news open using the classic KSD news theme from the early 1980s. While looking for news opens on YouTube, I found one from WAVY-TV 10. The year: 1983. The newscast broadcasted live from Harborfest featuring a report from Terry Zahn. We take you back to 1985 where WTVZ 33 Norfolk brings you a local news break. WTVZ was an independent station that later became a FOX and WB affiliate. The station is now the MyNetworkTV affiliate for Hampton Roads.
  9. We take you back to 1985 and a couple of stories about the demise of local Pensacola CHR station WBSR. It features reporters Bob Henderson from WEAR and Randy Wood from WJTC. In the WJTC clip shown in the video I am sharing, this was recorded when WJTC had a nightly newscast at 9pm or 10pm at the time. The reporter, Randy Wood, outros the report with this: "Randy Wood, Channel 44 News" so it may have been WJTC's newscast title during that period. However, there is no intro. But, you have a rare look at two TV stations covering a local news story in Pensacola/Ft. Walton/Mobile during 1985.
  10. Here is a very rare look at how WPCQ done local news in 1982. In this video, you'll notice that WPCQ used the "Q36" logo in their mic flag as well as the Group W "36" logo on the TV screen during the closing. The video features a report on a local high school marching band that participated in the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville. The newscasts on WPCQ in 1982 were known as "Action News" and was affiliated with NBC. Watch at the end of the video, because it features WPCQ's news team on the set. "11 Action News at Noon. Setting The Standard". From 1986, here is a noon news open for KTHV's "11 Action News". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUVyOWXTKfQ From the KLMO-TV Channel 4 YouTube page, here is a KRON "NewsCenter 4" open from 1984. The opening graphics for KRON's news looked very solid and clean. Roz Abrams and Jim Paymar were the anchor team on KRON at the time.
  11. In a recent reply, I shared a video containing three Atlanta TV news opens from 1976 (WSB, WAGA and WXIA). Now, there is another video to be shared. We take you back to April 22, 1984 where WSB-TV opened its newscast. The news team at the time were John McKnight and Jill Becker on news, Ernie Johnson on sports and Dan Atkinson with weather. The theme they used was Gari's "Newschannel" theme package. But wait, there's more. We take you to 1994 where we view both WGPR (now WWJ-TV, CBS) and WJBK (now FOX). Watch at 6:22 where you can view a portion of a Steve Antoniotti editorial aired on WJBK that details the station's FOX affiliation plans which included FOX's national favorites and more news.
  12. I have come across a couple of CFCN videos that feature the Frank Gari "Seven's On Your Side" theme package. First, let's go to 1990 where CFCN airs a newsbrief with Darrel Janz, a longtime CFCN news anchor. CFCN's newsbreak open features a cut from the package and was used to open KTTV's newscasts during this period. From 1986, CFCN aired a Lethbridge promo utilizing a promo cut from the Gari package. It is unknown who did the vocals for the song, but it may have been a local singer from the area. Not only did CFCN use a Frank Gari theme, CFAC (now CICT) used a Gari theme also. They used "Hello News" and in this clip from 1980, the station used a cut to open an update on the U. S. presidential election. While on the subject of international YouTube findings, here is another finding worthy to be shared. We take you back to November 1985 where CKY-TV, the CTV affiliate in Winnipeg, opens a "CKY News-Line" update. At the time, the station used "Hello News" by Frank Gari and is heard in the open at the beginning of the video. Let me add another video to share. This comes from CBET-TV in Windsor, Ontario where they bring to you "Newsfinal" for April 7th, 1984. The video also contains the final moments of a "National Update" broadcast with Knowlton Nash.
  13. It is good that you posted this, because I do recognize the WSAV sports anchor sitting next to the anchorman. That has to be Rick Russo who currently works for WVLT-TV 8 in Knoxville. Rick has been working at WVLT since the mid to late 1980s when the station was an NBC afffiliate on channel 26 as WTVK.
  14. I may have shared this one earlier, but if not, I am sharing this one for the first time. From 1977, here is the opening to WBIR-TV's "NewsCenter 10" utilizing the music from CBS's promo campaign of that year, "There's Something In The Air". We now take you to Yakima where KNDO opens its news from April 6, 1992 (24 years ago this month). With the recent finding of a WAFF Nightcast open using "We're Your Kind of People", here is a video from 1982 that focuses on the efforts to bring back WAFF 48 just days after fire burned their station's facilities. At 23:26 into the video, a video montage of happenings in the Tennessee Valley is shown and is done to the tune of "We're Your Kind of People". Interesting fact: They had written a special song for the Tennessee Valley and WAFF just days before the fire. After the station signed back on the air, they had it redone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t89ky5_yWyY Forty years ago this month, WAGA, WXIA and WSB-TV were Atlanta's stations covering local news and the events shaping Atlanta and the world These days, they still cover the local news and events shaping Atlanta and the world. What better way to mention this is by sharing a video containing all three news opens from April 1976. Here is what themes they used during that year: WSB-TV: "Move Closer To Your World" (Mayoham Music) WAGA: "Home Country" (Mayoham Music) WXIA: "A Clockwork Orange: Timesteps" (Walter Carlos) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bmzYb9NWdU
  15. We take you back to somewhere in the mid to late 1970s where WPVI did a story about Bob Hite, Robert Phillip HIte that is. During a week in the 1970s, Bob Hite took a few days off the anchor desk to attend to the birth of a baby, young Robert Phillip Hite. As you'll see in the clip, the young Bob Hite makes its TV debut. The clip also features an open without voiceover in the beginning and at the end, a portion of a WPVI news close using a different cut of MCTYW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUUzyTtNaVY Also, we take you back to 1989 where WYFF-TV in Greenville, SC was covering the events of today the day before Hurricane Hugo ravaged the area. This newscast was recorded months before "NewsCenter 4" became "News 4". And wait there's more...let's enjoy a rare WHSV newscast from 1991. It features an unknown theme heard in the opening and closing of the newscast. Plus, we take you back to 1976 where WYTV 33 in Youngstown was known as "33 Eyewitness News" and is showcased in this YouTube clip. The opening has no music, but voiceover is included. During 1979, WPGH-TV 53 in Pittsburgh, PA was an independent station. What you may or may not know was that they had a newscast shown weeknights entitled "Newswatch". Watch at :22 for a theme you may recognize. Here is a hint: WTVR in Richmond, VA used that theme for its "News 90" broadcasts.
  16. I recently came across a rare piece of video uploaded by luis maria lopez on YouTube. The video is of a demo reel done by the uploader of this video from 1985 to 1987. If you go to :58 into the video, you'll witness what may very well be a KTVW news open from around that period. The theme heard was also used on WLOX, WWLP and even WTRF.
  17. WZDX, the FOX affiliate serving Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley, is launching its own news operation in April 2016. More details at https://changingnewscasts.wordpress.com/2015/12/17/wzdx-soon-launch-own-news-department-april-2016/
  18. We take you back to the mid 1980s when WLKY in Louisville was affiliated with ABC. The clip you're about to see comes from a report that WLKY aired about Steve Burgin's induction into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. Go to around 1:05 to see WLKY's news open from this era.
  19. During 1978, KVCT-TV 19 was known as KXIX-TV, an ABC affiliate owned by Victoria Communications. What I am sharing with you is something I found on YouTube that showcases KXIX-TV during that year. It's an evening newscast with anchorman Bil Stephens. The news theme they used was "Where You Belong" by TM Productions and was known as "Eyewitness News".
  20. I recently came across a rare clip from WSLS-TV. This is from 1986, and features a tease for "The News Tonight" with Ken Surpan and Monica Shuman. The theme you hear in this clip is Tuesday13 from Tuesday Productions which was also used on WDEF, KCCI and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jscH-Rlt1KM
  21. Here is another rare gem I unearthed on YouTube. This time, we take you back to 1983 where WCHS-TV aired a story about Ray Elkins as part of their "Traveling West Virginia" news series. Take note of the theme that WCHS-TV used, Tuesday1. WCHS-TV used this as their primary theme for WCHS-TV's "Mountain State News". A year or two after this aired, WCHS-TV was airing newscasts under the "News 8" branding. This video was uploaded by a member of the Elkins family and showcases WCHS-TV's newscasts during this era.
  22. I came across a rare clip on YouTube. From 1985, here is a news open from WWNY-TV 7 in Carthage/Watertown, NY. The theme they use is from CBS' "We've Got The Touch" promo campaign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHEabZAwJKg
  23. From sometime in the early 1980s, here is a promo jingle for WTLV-TV 12 in Jacksonville, Florida when the station was an ABC affiliate. It is entitled "12 Delivers" and is a wonderful promo that WTLV used when the station was about a year or so into its affiliation with ABC. At :23 into the video, it includes a clip of some WTLV personalities getting ready for a newscast from their news set. The top part of the set features the "Action News" logo in the classic ABC news font style. From one of the TV screens, it shows the old "Action News" logo that they used when the station was an NBC affiliate during the late 1970s.
  24. I recently came across something rare on YouTube. From 1982, here is the first moments of a WNGE-TV 2 newscast and features a report from Jeff Eller which was posted on his YouTube account two months ago. WNGE's "NewsWatch 2" featured the classic KDFW/WCBS/WBTV news set that was used in the 1980s and includes the classic GE news theme package used by another former station owned by General Electric, KCNC. You can check it out at
  25. As I was checking out YouTube on my iPhone, I came across something rare. From 1986, here are the first few moments of a WKYT 5:30pm newscast. Enjoy this video, because it includes a great WKYT open used during that era.
