1. I checked out the bump pieces from the WWLP-WANE-KTVW-WLOX theme by VTS and it sounds really nice. Anyway, while checking out the YouTube app on my Kindle Fire, I found a WHNT newscast close from 1979 featuring a nice version of Tuesday's "News People" theme. Here is something rare. A clip from WCWB-TV (now WMGT) in Macon. This is from 1980 and features a report about President Reagan's trip to Georgia. No news open is included. I do not know if this has been shared or not, but here is a clip of WTXL-TV as recorded in the mid 1980s. A WTXL fill-in anchor at the time, Steve Hunsicker, uploaded this clip of a morning news cut-in during "Good Morning America". We take you back to 1993 were WATE-TV covered the Blizzard of '93 with anchors Russ Murphy and Denise Dillon. News open is at 0:56 into the video. A little warning: This was recorded via a video camera pointed to the TV.
2. That KIMA logo looks nice. Get ready for a double dose of KCRG from 1987. The best part: They are both full newscasts from that year and include different "Turn To News" opens from that period. And here are some WLOS news opens from 1999. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX17JVKaWVI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkSPUM5tw1E
3. With all the rare news videos popping up on this forum, we can add another one to the list. We take you back to 1977 where we feature a rare clip of a WMAZ newscast. There is no open in the video, but it does feature a news story on the UGA Redcoat Band. At the end of the video is a WMAZ news bumper with an unknown music piece. Also, here is a portion of KOVR's news from October 7, 1991 featuring news open. Here are a set of CBS/WCIA commercials from December 7, 1986 with a portion of WCIA's news. The news open can be seen at 30:09. The voice-over doing the WCIA intro sounds like the work of Dan Region who was also the announcer of "As The World Turns" at the time. Or...it may have been someone from WCIA. Velma Scaife, longtime WVEC reporter, passed away recently. What we don't know was that before Velma became a WVEC reporter, she worked at WCYB-TV in Bristol during 1986. Here are a couple of news updates that Velma did for the late news on WCYB during this period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TEScWV5lyA And keeping with the Tri-Cities theme, here is a WJHL news promo as aired in 1985 for "Eyewitness News". However, the video is rough and shot from a video camera pointed to the TV. The music heard in the promo is an unknown theme piece which may have been WJHL's news theme at the time.
4. The videos I have seen on there are nice. I do remember seeing ECO on Galavision in the early 1990s. We take you back to 1984 where KDFW aired a promo featuring their news team. They still used the KDFW 1980 News Theme and they also used the WBTV news set. I do not think this has been shared, but I did find something rare. We take you back to 1983 where KTVB in Boise opens an edition of "NewsCenter 7". They used the Michael Randall "NewsCenter" theme during this period. Also, here is a KTVB news update from 1992 with a different theme being used. The update can be seen at 1:38. As many of you know, TV stations across the United States used the classic TM Productions package entitled "The Spirit (of Texas)". Radio stations even used it in some form or another. WNIR in Akron uses it for their talk format. How about WDAF? They used it in 1994 to open newscasts. You can hear the WDAF ID and news intro using TM's package at 0:05.
5. As your weekend is about to come to an end, here are some rare clips I am sharing with all of you. We start in 1977 where WOAY-4 in Beckley, West Virginia had just signed back on the air after a devastating fire hit the station. Here are a few video clips of WOAY's news from that year. At 2:16 into the video, it includes an ID with newscast open. The audio is very low, but you get to see a vintage KFVS newscast from 1989 featuring a different open used during that period. News open with ID can be seen at 0:33. Here is a WSAZ news close from 1977 with NBC Nightly News intro. WSAZ used "Part of Your Life" at the time.
6. We take you back to 1998 where WYMT opens the evening edition of "57 Mountain News" featuring an unknown news theme. We take you one year later to 1999 where WKYT opens an edition of award-winning "27 NewsFirst". Also, we take you back to 1979 where we feature something rare: A WBOC newscast. WBOC-16 was the only commercial TV station in the Delmarva area before WMDT-47 signed on a year or two later. It does not contain a news open, but features a rare look at the station's news product. On top of that, here is a WOKR-13 newscast from 1989 and you gotta love the news open. Also, we take you back to the decade of the 1990s where KCCO/KCCW aired its last locally originated newscasts before KCCO/KCCW became a full-time satellite. The theme they used in the news open aired in the late 1970s was also used on WRC-TV for their editorial segments. The theme they used in the second news open was the KSAT 1984 News theme by an unknown composer.
7. That is an awesome news open. Never even thought that a different theme bed existed for WAFF during that era. This leads me to some rare WFMJ from the 1980s. From 1982, here is a set of NBC commercials as aired on WFMJ. As a special treat in this video, it includes the first minutes of "21 Action News" from that year with a news open included. The ID and news open can be seen at 21:46.
8. You are indeed right. I think the WDEF news open from 1988 I am sharing did use a version of the KOAT/KETV graphics. Here is a KAPP-35 news open from 1997 with an unknown theme of sorts.
9. We take you back to 1988 where I encountered a clip from KOAT in Albuquerque, NM and features an entire broadcast of "Action 7 News" from 11/27/1988. You can see the newscast at 28:23.
10. Very interesting indeed. We take you back to the mid 1980s where KWTX in Waco aired a promo entitled "Here's To You" and it was even used on WDEF in Chattanooga as well. Also, we take you back to the 1990s where we feature a few stories about the Rocky Flats coverup as seen on Denver TV. A KCNC news open from 1992 can be seen at 3:23.
11. We take you now to Fort Wayne, Indiana where we feature a set of news stories about Pyle Speakers as featured on WKJG, WPTA and WANE. At 1:35 is a WPTA news close from 1983 using the classic "It's All Right Here" package by Peters Productions. From 1978, here are a few commercials as recorded off WMAR-TV in Baltimore when they were affiliated with CBS. Included toward the end is a WMAR news tease featuring Bill Markham. He would later team with Cindy Sexton at WHNT in Huntsville and WRCB in Chattanooga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3UfVn4XS70 Get ready for some rare Louisiana newscasts. Starting it off is WBRZ in Baton Rouge from back in 1984. It does contain most of the newscast with John Pastorek, but no open is shown. Continuing with the Louisiana theme, we go to WRBT (now Nexstar-owned WVLA) where we feature an entire 10pm newscast from 1980. The theme they used during that period was also used as the theme to the NBC Nightly News during the mid to late 1970s. And rounding it out is a complete newscast from KATC-TV in LaFayette as recorded in 1980.
12. That movie open is vintage. If I am not too badly mistaken, this must have been a syndicated package used on various stations including one in Canada that I am mentioning. CFMT in Toronto, Canada used the same package in the early 1980s for their Italian movies on the station known as Italcine. EDIT: I did find the CFMT version of the movie open. They not only used it for Italcine (movies in Italian), they also used it for their all night movies on CFMT.
13. We take you back to 1993 and 1994 where we feature a rare look at WKAG's news in the form of news reports done by former WKAG reporter, James La-Giglia. News opens can be seen at 31:04, 43:49, 53:14 and 55:13. A news rejoin can also be seen at 22:27. Talk about rare footage considering that there were no videos of WKAG newscasts other than one from 2009. We come back to 1990 where we feature a news story from TV-43 in Hopkinsville and contains a clip of WKAG's news set from that year. From 1988, here are the opening minutes of a KWGN newscast from 1988. The open can be seen at the beginning and features a different opening arrangement of the "WNEV News Theme" by Tuesday.
14. Today is Sunday and it's time for something rare. In fact, anytime is a good time for something rare and it is no exception. We take you back to the mid to late 1980s where WAOW presented the weekend late edition of "Newsline 9" with Liz Talbot. The open at :21 features an unknown news theme used during that period.
15. We take you back to 1977 where I encountered something rare - the opening minutes of a WSET-TV newscast. The newscast was anchored by Stan Jayson who later went to WCHS-TV during the "Eyewitness News" days. There is a news open, but no music. This was recorded a few months after channel 13 had changed it calls from WLVA-TV to WSET-TV.
16. Here is an almost complete WSAV newscast from October 1985. The station used the "WSAV 1986 News Theme" for its newscasts.
17. WTRF-7 in Wheeling, WV used the "KTVW 1986 News Theme" during the mid to late 1980s. Here is some news opens from that period. And, here is their news close from that period. Keeping with the WTRF theme, here is a news open from sometime in the mid to late 1980s. It features an unknown news theme, but considering the three-note signature in Tuesday's "News 88" package, could WTRF have used that package? Anyone willing to chime in.
18. Here is a WTVF-5 news open from 1989 during the final days of "Eyewitness News". They would later become "NewsChannel 5", a branding they've had ever since. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY42T4GwE4c Here is a clip of the ATV Evening News from 1986 containing the opening and closing to the 6pm news. The theme they use is Tuesday Productions' "The News Image".
19. Here is an entire WISC-3 newscast from October 13, 1988 using the "All We Are, We Are For You" from Tuesday Productions. Also, another entire newscast. This time, from WBAL-11 in Baltimore as aired after Villanova won the NCAA college basketball national title. It aired on April 1, 1985. At the time of the airing, WBAL was a CBS affiliate. As of 2016, WBAL is an NBC station. Here is yet another entire newscast. This newscast comes to us from WAFF-48 in Huntsville from February 1993. Their newscasts were known as "The Tennessee Valley NewsChannel". Here is a WAFF-48 newscast close from December 1980 featuring more of the classic WAFF/WTOC news theme used during that era. WTVF in Nashville had a morning newscast in 1986 anchored by Les Heintz with news and Joe Case with weather. Here is their news open featuring legendary Lexington, KY news anchor John Lindgren filling in for Les. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa7FGOYaUQk
20. We now take you back to 1977 where WSIU brought you the "Evening Report". From 1989, here are a set of news clips about James Stone. At the beginning of the video is a KMGH news open from that year. Also, here is a WDTV-5 "NewsCentral" close from 1984 featuring the classic "Tuesday13" theme as used on KWTX, WDEF, WNCT and other stations during this period. Wait, that's not all. Here is a KVUE news open 1994 using the "Promise News Package" by Collier Concepts. Gotta love the spinning Texas capital animation in this open. From 1980, here is an entire evening newscast on WTVT featuring Hugh Smith, Roy Leep, Andy Hardy and even Gov. Bob Graham. Yes, Gov. Bob Graham even did a workday as TV reporter/anchor for WTVT. The ID and open can be seen at 1:58 and features an unknown news theme. This is rare WTVT news material from 1980 considering this is a full newscast.
21. We take you back to the late 1980s where WAKC (then WAKR-TV) still had a local newscast. This video contains clips from what looks like a 6pm newscast in that era. The news open seen at around :06 uses the same graphics WAKC has had since the mid 1980s when the station was WAKR-TV. Not only that, they used the KGGM theme that WAKR-TV had used during that time. Also, we take you back to 1984 where WAKR-TV (later WAKC) closed an 11pm newscast. The close can be seen at around 2:36.
22. Oh wait, there's more. Here is a WKBN newscast from July 1977 featuring the late Tom Holden. News open can be seen at :39 into the video. A rare look at WKBN's news on that day.
23. Get ready for more vintage video. To start it off, here are two WLUK promos from the 1980s and the first one is a :30 version of the Florence Warner sung "Hello Wisconsin". Here is a WBNB news open from 1985 which includes the first moments of a "NewsCenter 10" broadcast. Here is a WTRF news clip from 1986. Watch at the beginning of the video as you'll hear an unknown theme bumper.
24. Here is a set of short WWBT clips from 1986 and 1988. The first video contains a short WWBT "12 News Update" open using "The Mission" by John Williams. From 1985, here is a WTCN news open featuring Roger Thompson on the voiceover and the "9 Country/11 Country" package. Here is a KHOU news open from 1979. And here is a WPIX special news open from 1977 using "Move Closer To Your World" by Al Ham.
25. Here is a Virginia classic, a WWBT news open from sometime in the early to mid 1970s. And also, here are a few minutes of a WVVA newscast recorded back in 1984. WVVA used the same theme KERO and KVBC used during that timeframe. The open can be seen at around 1:05.
