Here is a special that aired on CBS in either 1976 or 1977 titled "The Best of All in the Family." The special includes original commercials and features a CBS ID at 31:51. The video comes from Marion Stokes' Archive page where she has posted a number of rare videos that contain news and other shows with commercials. https://archive.org/details/stokes0373/0373-1.mov

Henry, thanks for sharing these rare clips. I love the KPOM clips, because it features a rare look at “24 Express News” during the 1980s. Elizabeth Alex would later anchor in Kansas City. And it features a rare look at “NewsCenter NightBeat” with anchor Jerry Overton.

I remember the reruns being run on NBC in the late 1990s-early 2000s, because they were so funny.

The early 1980s CBS Evening News graphics were mocked by Canadian comedy series SCTV which aired on NBC in the United States. This was seen in the episode where SCTV were in a "network war" with CBS, ABC and NBC. And the episode featured its own take on "The Godfather." So, you can watch SCTV's version of the CBS open at 22:20 and the open uses a synth theme. Here is the original CBS Evening News open from 1981 which features a close.

Here is a KETV newsbreak and promo montage from the 1980s and 2003. Take note at 4:16, because the KETV promo for its weather department uses the KSN 1985 news theme.

In the video description, I noticed that for the WTVR news open they used WSLS' 1988 news therme. Considering the newscast was recorded back in 1986, it was used way before 1988. And, it may have a name according to YouTube user Channel 37. WTVR used a JDK Music package titled "Shenandoah" due to the fact that the Shenandoah Valley is in Rockingham County in Virginia.

Does anyone have a list of campaigns that Peters used? -
Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

It's been over a month, but it's time to check into a news theme that needs to be identified. Does anyone know who composed this theme? -
That WMBB news theme is one of my favorite news themes. I remember hearing this theme on the old Geocities TV News Themes website. Henry, I want you to know that you made my night and I can't wait to see some more classic video.

Tonight, I saw a promo on WATE for its radio news on Star 102.1 and they are getting the KTVX/WMBB/WDHN graphics. I wish I took a screenshot at the right moment, but I couldn't do that.
-
While watching WATE's 4pm newscast on my iPhone via the WATE news app, I took a screenshot. The bottom of the screen shows WATE's current graphics while the TV screen where Matt Hinkin is standing at is showing WATE's new graphics (?). Only time will tell, because WATE's new set is debuting very soon. I'll share some screenshots once it happens.

Here is a rare look at KREX's NewsWest in form of a local newsbreak from **1982**. This was when KREX-TV was dual-afilliated with CBS and NBC since ABC dropped its secondary affiiation with KREX back in 1979, the end of the decade.

Here is a WPTZ noon news open from August 1994 with Tuesday's WNDU 1986 News Theme sounding so good.

This is a surprise. You never expect Ernie Anderson to announce a newscast open on a CBS affiliate, because of his famous work with ABC stations. I will tell you this though, the set looks nice and the open animation is good.

For the past few weeks, WATE-TV in Knoxville has been broadcasting from its newsroom, because WATE will be getting a new set along with new graphics. Although I have not seen any sneak peeks about it on TV, it will be interesting to see what the new set will look like when it is finished.

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes
KnoxvilleTVFan replied to promoguy98's topic in News Music & Voiceovers
I went to YouTube just now and saw some news stories about the Wichita Wings indoor soccer team. Well, just to find out, KSNW's 1985 news theme began before 1985. It started out sometime in the early 1980s, say 1983 which is the same time KETV in Omaha used the KSNW theme. If you watch the video at 9:54, you can hear a few seconds of KSNW's classic news theme. Six seconds later at 10:00, we hear a drum beat in the theme that is reminiscent of the WRAL/KTXL 1982 news theme. So, this leads me to believe that the composer of the KSNW theme may have also done the WRAL/KTXL theme around that timeframe. But...but, I may be wrong plus it is not known who composed the theme. I am including a video of WRAL's 1982 news theme for comparison. (Drum beat is heard at :34) -
And now, I came across some rare Abilene news clips from the 1980s and 1990s on Facebook. First, here is a KTAB news open from 1990. And...a KTXS news montage with open...FROM 1988!!1!! But hold on...here's clips from Abilene television in the 1980s to 1990s where they mention crime news in this montage.

It's great that you posted this KDEB newscast featuring Doug Ohlmeyer from 1986. The theme heard is an ABC production piece from Score Productions. The piece was used on at least one ABC Sports program. The newscast was months before KDEB lost its ABC affiliation to Telepictures-owned KSPR 33. Also, the channel also featured some stories from Doug Ohlmeyer when he worked for CBS affiliate KLMG-TV (now Nexstar-owned FOX affiliate KFXK) in Tyler/Longview, TX.

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

After looking at an earlier R&R program supplier guide, I have determined that the "Watch What We're Doing Now" promo package for stations such as WCCB Charlotte and KADN Lafayette was done by American Image Productions back in 1982. -
Here is the first part of a WDEF noon newscast from Christmas Eve 1987.. This newscast was anchored that day by Rebecca Williams (then Rebecca Cook) and features a news open. WVII's 1992 news theme was used five years earlier as WDEF may have been one of the first to use this theme. Also, here is a WDEF nightside open from that same period, but a different version of the theme. You can see the open at 26:51.

I want to share the closing segment of a special about legendary WLWT personality Paul Dixon that aired in 1984. Watch at 4:02, because it features a WLWT announcer in the credits, Bud Stagg. Also, I checked into this via Google and found that Bud Stagg passed away back in 2013. He was a veteran Cincinnati radio DJ who also voiced the Med Mart commercials. And, if you go to http://www.southernmedia-nmsa.com/#1,1,KOLN and click on open #2, you can hear Bud's voice on the news open. Speaking of Med Mart, here is a commercial featuring Bud's voice.

We are going way back to 1972 and a look at television in Southern California thanks to Obsolete Video Services. Take note at 31:33 when we feature a short, but rare clip of KCST-TV 39, in its independent days, before its became an ABC station (currently NBC). The clip is in the form of a promo for a short-lived syndicated show called "The Mancini Generation" and the slogan "Join 39tv" is in the form of a campaign button.

I recently came across a segment from a WLWT weekend newscast anchored by Robin Phillips (formerly of WTVQ Lexington) and Michael Collins. You can see the open at :01 into the video.

No news opens featured, but a couple stories about Ronnie Speeks, a local East Tennessee singer and Elvis tribute artist Ronnie Speeks. Featured at 2:07 is anchor Elisa Jaffe who would go on to host a local show on KOMO for a number of years. FYI: Elisa Jaffe's first television job was at WATE-TV, Knoxville in the 1980s and on her Facebook page, she shares a photo collage of her time at WATE. But wait...there's more. Here is a rare look at Idaho television news at the end of the decade with a full KBCI newscast. It features an interesting "Action News" logo and *NEWS OPEN*. The year: 1979. You may notice longtime WLEX news anchor Alan Cutler in the sports anchor chair. This was one of his earlier gigs before hitting it big in Lexington, KY at WLEX-TV. Now, wait just a minute...we have another sighting. This time, from KBYU-TV, the PBS station. Their newscasts were known as "Newsroom 11" and their theme: Bob James' "The Golden Apple." Not too long after the newscast was recorded, their newscast became...."Weeknight."

I am going to share something you need to see; it's a video of the CBS NBA wraparounds that aired as part of game four of the 1990 NBA Eastern Finals. In the video, it features legendary CBS Sports announcer Don Robertson doing a piece called "As The Playoff World Turns." You'll love this one and it can be seen at 1:06 into the video.
