My goodness! The material from Randy Dunford is indeed rare. Am hoping he has more rare stuff. Anyway, here is a WYTV news close from 1982 using TM's "The Best Things in Life". NOTE: This is not the WWL version, but a different one if I am not mistaken. There's more. Here is a video combo worth sharing. We first see the sign-off of KNBN-TV, the SIN (now Univision) affiliate for Dallas. Then, we take you to the sign-on of KRLD-TV, an independent station, which was brought by Metromedia which includes the first moments of its inaugural 7pm newscast. The theme they used in the ID/news open is Gari's "Newschannel". We take you back to 1989 where we feature a WAKA-TV weather update with Lisa Gurevitch. Here's a WWLP newscast from 1988.
-
There's more KNDU where it came from. This time, we feature an entire 11pm newscast from 1986.
-
And that's not all...here is KATU's "Eyewitness News" from 1975. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdDe4yMMEhI Plus, here is KENS 5 "Eyewitness News" from 1989 with Kym Benson. I do not know if this has been shared, but here is some classic KMOL "NewsCenter 4" from 1981 featuring current WATE Knoxville anchor Lori Tucker.
-
Nice. I believe there is something that has not been shared. a KNDU newscast from 1986. Also, how about a WREG clip from 1975? Talk about rare! Here is a KNBC news open from 1981. How about a KNBC Newservice close from 1973?
-
Talk about rare. NewsActive3's latest compilation tops them all. Here are a few favorites: * The KOB "Eyewitness News 4" open is action-packed and exciting * Not only that, the KFVS "Channel 12 News" open with TM's "NewsBeat" is a welcome addition * A rare WCOV-TV "Newsroom 20 at 5" news open * The CHCH "NewsRoom 11" open that features their theme used until the end of the 1980s * The KTUU "Newservice 2" open is the rarest Alaska news open I have ever seen * The first-ever intro for "KRLD-TV News" is so exciting and... * The KTEW "NewsCenter 2" intro

With the solar eclipse taking place in 13 days from now, we take you back to 1984 where WAGA brings you a special edition of "Eyewitness News". It is a newscast complete with a news open. The news open animation reminds me of how WBNS did their intro at the time. The news intro can be seen at 3:41 and believe me, it is rare.

We take you way back to 1979 where we feature a rare look at KKTV in Colorado Springs. This is way before KKTV was acquired by Gray Television when it bought most of Benedek's stations. This clip you are about to see comes from a KKTV program entitled "Mid Day". It was anchored by Liz Paul. The theme used in the open is unknown. Anyone willing to chime in and take a guess?

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

I came across a KDRV news open from 1985 and was wanting to know if it sounds like a Tuesday piece or some other work. (News open is seen at 2:55) -
I recently came across some rare footage from WCYB-TV in the form of a news break. This aired in 1979 and the news break begins at 0:33 with Alan Byrne. An ID is seen at 3:03. Talk about the rarest footage I have seen. Here's hoping we see some more Tri-Cities news footage from this period soon.
-
Some rare goodies are coming your way right now on this 4th of July 2017. First, we take you to some rare news footage in the form of a newsbreak as aired on KCBJ-TV 17 in Columbia, Missouri. Recorded back in March 1983, it's a rare look at KCBJ's news operation. Here's hoping that one day, we'll see a news open with theme. ID is at 4:30 with newsbreak at 4:39. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KedQORpX8A Next, we take you to WXLT 40 (now WWSB) and rare footage from "NewsCenter 40". This was recorded back in 1985 and talk about rare. A newsbreak can be seen at 3:12 and 6:46 with anchor Bill Holland along with one at 11:41 with Bob Keehn. An ID promo for Mary Rogers joining the "NewsCenter 40" team is seen at the end.

We take you to Dothan, Alabama and a rare look at WDHN. In 1990! There is no news open, however. But you are checking out a rare clip of a WDHN newscast from that year. The news anchor, Linda Scott, formerly worked for WSFA in Montgomery during the 1980s. An unknown theme piece can be heard at 3:08 into the video. And speaking of WSFA, here are a set of promos celebrating 35 years as aired in 1989. A number of WSFA employees including legendary WSFA announcer Carl Stephens make appearances in these commercials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9jqhkOTzmQ Here is more News 12 Long Island. This time, it is from 1988 via a director room feed. While News 12 Long Island was the first 24-hour local cable news channel in the nation, News 12 Connecticut started in 1982 as a local organization channel and would go on to become the first regional news channel in Connecticut. Here is a clip of News 12 Connecticut as recorded back in the 1990s.

Discovered composers & publishers of music themes

If you watch closely at the video titled "WILX Channel 10", the graphics sorta put me in mind of KXTV in a way. Anyway, getting back on topic, I noticed that KHON used a theme that had a three-note signature at the end. It can be heard at around :13 into the video. KHON did use the "2 Belongs" slogan during the early 1980s and this leads me to believe that KHON may have used Peters Productions' "X Belongs" at that time. I could be wrong though. Anyone willing to chime in? -
Gotta love the WFSB open. Didn't know that WFSB used the pre-1984 Gannett graphics, because I do know that KMST in Monterrey/Salinas, CA used the graphics during the mid 1980s. Onto some rare video. From 1986, here are a couple of news promos for KCAU's "Major 9 News". The theme they used at the time was "Tuesday1" by Tuesday Productions. The station used an interesting logo which can be seen at the end of this video. Here is some more of WANE's "News 15". This time, here is a vintage newscast from September 18th, 1985. Here is a full KCST newscast from October 12th, 1986 (three days before my 2nd birthday). The newscast begins at 2:21 and features a KCST/Storer closing logo at 28:46. You gotta love the closing theme they played at the time. But wait, there's more. Here is an entire WPDS newscast from June 7th, 1984 and this newscast aired not too long before the station cancelled its late newscast. One more clip and it's VERY rare. We take you back to March 1987 where we feature a KTVE newscast from this period. The news close can be seen at 15:24 and features an unknown news theme. Anyone know what it is?
-
That is some rare KOIN news footage from 1980. The theme they used was "On Top of It All", not "Part of Your Life". I don't know if this has been shared or not, but here is a rare look at KTVT's daily newscast from 1981! They aired this newscast during the midday hours, but these days, KTVT, as a CBS affiliate, airs more local news than what they did back then. That's not all...Mike Seidel of The Weather Channel has uploaded some rare videos of his work on WYFF. I'll post only a couple. First, here is a WYFF weekend weathercast he did on May 18th, 1986. The news anchor is Alta Snell. And next, here is a WYFF Decision '86 election promo featuring Carl Clark (formerly of KHQ-TV Spokane) and Carol (Anderson) Goldsmith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHJlY4h3D-E

While checking out YouTube, I recently encounter rare WTVO footage from 1987. In 1984, WTVO's newscasts were known as "Newswatch 17". In 1987, WTVO's newscasts at the time were "News 17". Here is a clip of WTVO's "News 17" featuring a news close at 3:42 with an unknown theme playing.

Checked out a little bit of the WLOS-TV Blizzard video and was glad to see Brenda Burch (former WTVK news anchor/reporter) in the video. She anchored coverage of the big Blizzard of '93 for WLOS. I am back with some rare goodies. We take you back to the early 1980s and Tuscaloosa, Alabama where we feature an intro for WCFT's "Eyewitness News" from this period. They used "Electro Phantasma" by Dave Grusin off the soundtrack to "The Electric Horseman". From 1987, here is an MPBN broadcast of the Mount View/Rockland game with a WABI news clip at the beginning. At :04 into the video is a WABI newscast open used in 1987 featuring an unknown news theme. From March 1989, here is a partial WHBF-TV newscast. WHBF-TV was one of the non-ABC stations to use Gari's News Series 2000 as its theme as they were CBS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtKRHTqdQGc

I checked out the bump pieces from the WWLP-WANE-KTVW-WLOX theme by VTS and it sounds really nice. Anyway, while checking out the YouTube app on my Kindle Fire, I found a WHNT newscast close from 1979 featuring a nice version of Tuesday's "News People" theme. Here is something rare. A clip from WCWB-TV (now WMGT) in Macon. This is from 1980 and features a report about President Reagan's trip to Georgia. No news open is included. I do not know if this has been shared or not, but here is a clip of WTXL-TV as recorded in the mid 1980s. A WTXL fill-in anchor at the time, Steve Hunsicker, uploaded this clip of a morning news cut-in during "Good Morning America". We take you back to 1993 were WATE-TV covered the Blizzard of '93 with anchors Russ Murphy and Denise Dillon. News open is at 0:56 into the video. A little warning: This was recorded via a video camera pointed to the TV.
-
That KIMA logo looks nice. Get ready for a double dose of KCRG from 1987. The best part: They are both full newscasts from that year and include different "Turn To News" opens from that period. And here are some WLOS news opens from 1999. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX17JVKaWVI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkSPUM5tw1E

With all the rare news videos popping up on this forum, we can add another one to the list. We take you back to 1977 where we feature a rare clip of a WMAZ newscast. There is no open in the video, but it does feature a news story on the UGA Redcoat Band. At the end of the video is a WMAZ news bumper with an unknown music piece. Also, here is a portion of KOVR's news from October 7, 1991 featuring news open. Here are a set of CBS/WCIA commercials from December 7, 1986 with a portion of WCIA's news. The news open can be seen at 30:09. The voice-over doing the WCIA intro sounds like the work of Dan Region who was also the announcer of "As The World Turns" at the time. Or...it may have been someone from WCIA. Velma Scaife, longtime WVEC reporter, passed away recently. What we don't know was that before Velma became a WVEC reporter, she worked at WCYB-TV in Bristol during 1986. Here are a couple of news updates that Velma did for the late news on WCYB during this period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TEScWV5lyA And keeping with the Tri-Cities theme, here is a WJHL news promo as aired in 1985 for "Eyewitness News". However, the video is rough and shot from a video camera pointed to the TV. The music heard in the promo is an unknown theme piece which may have been WJHL's news theme at the time.

The videos I have seen on there are nice. I do remember seeing ECO on Galavision in the early 1990s. We take you back to 1984 where KDFW aired a promo featuring their news team. They still used the KDFW 1980 News Theme and they also used the WBTV news set. I do not think this has been shared, but I did find something rare. We take you back to 1983 where KTVB in Boise opens an edition of "NewsCenter 7". They used the Michael Randall "NewsCenter" theme during this period. Also, here is a KTVB news update from 1992 with a different theme being used. The update can be seen at 1:38. As many of you know, TV stations across the United States used the classic TM Productions package entitled "The Spirit (of Texas)". Radio stations even used it in some form or another. WNIR in Akron uses it for their talk format. How about WDAF? They used it in 1994 to open newscasts. You can hear the WDAF ID and news intro using TM's package at 0:05.

As your weekend is about to come to an end, here are some rare clips I am sharing with all of you. We start in 1977 where WOAY-4 in Beckley, West Virginia had just signed back on the air after a devastating fire hit the station. Here are a few video clips of WOAY's news from that year. At 2:16 into the video, it includes an ID with newscast open. The audio is very low, but you get to see a vintage KFVS newscast from 1989 featuring a different open used during that period. News open with ID can be seen at 0:33. Here is a WSAZ news close from 1977 with NBC Nightly News intro. WSAZ used "Part of Your Life" at the time.

We take you back to 1998 where WYMT opens the evening edition of "57 Mountain News" featuring an unknown news theme. We take you one year later to 1999 where WKYT opens an edition of award-winning "27 NewsFirst". Also, we take you back to 1979 where we feature something rare: A WBOC newscast. WBOC-16 was the only commercial TV station in the Delmarva area before WMDT-47 signed on a year or two later. It does not contain a news open, but features a rare look at the station's news product. On top of that, here is a WOKR-13 newscast from 1989 and you gotta love the news open. Also, we take you back to the decade of the 1990s where KCCO/KCCW aired its last locally originated newscasts before KCCO/KCCW became a full-time satellite. The theme they used in the news open aired in the late 1970s was also used on WRC-TV for their editorial segments. The theme they used in the second news open was the KSAT 1984 News theme by an unknown composer.
-
That is an awesome news open. Never even thought that a different theme bed existed for WAFF during that era. This leads me to some rare WFMJ from the 1980s. From 1982, here is a set of NBC commercials as aired on WFMJ. As a special treat in this video, it includes the first minutes of "21 Action News" from that year with a news open included. The ID and news open can be seen at 21:46.
-
You are indeed right. I think the WDEF news open from 1988 I am sharing did use a version of the KOAT/KETV graphics. Here is a KAPP-35 news open from 1997 with an unknown theme of sorts.
-
We take you back to 1988 where I encountered a clip from KOAT in Albuquerque, NM and features an entire broadcast of "Action 7 News" from 11/27/1988. You can see the newscast at 28:23.
