Acoording to Robert Feder, Channel 5 main anchors Rob Stafford and Allison Rosati will now doing stay-at-home anchor rotations starting today. Just like in case of Brant Miller is doing the weather at home.

Given Rob’s pre-existing health condition, he should have been anchoring from home weeks ago, so I don’t understand the sense of urgency now. It’s as if they can’t make up their minds what they want to do and just come up with something different every week.

So the morning, afternoon and weekend anchor pairs won’t be broken up (1 at home/ 1 in studio)? Why not apply this across all newscasts?

I don't generally watch David Muir on a daily basis but I can easily tell you that NBC's coverage has been atrocious. They seem too gung ho in their reporting, NBC needs to do an overhaul in their reporters or hire some tv consultants.

A lot of the coverage (not just from NBC) isn’t really good. Some reporters tend to ask the same questions every single day and/or tend to be argumentative towards this administration.

As Dr. Birx said an hour or so ago. There will be a time to step back and fully assess what went wrong/right during this crisis, but now isn’t the time for that. I agree with her.

I think people are confusing pointing out untruthful statements with open disdain.

If an elected leader makes a statement that is contradicted by facts or by reporting, then it's a journalist's obligation to hold them accountable and say so.

There was a period of time during and after the 2016 election when news outlets went out of their way to highlight "all sides" or "all points of view," even when one of them was clearly misleading or not supported by facts.  We are starting to see more and more outlets, including CNN and others, be more proactive in speaking truth to power, which is why you see anchors being more aggressive in noting fact vs. fiction.

I'm all for calling people out and putting people's feet to the fire, but some (maybe Norah is one of them) can't seem to move past the fact that dude is president. He isn't going to change and somehow become a better president (or person). The sooner people realize this, the better. There's also this strange need to nitpick anything and everything. Dr. Fauci misses one day and it's suddenly... 'Crisis at the White House: Day 1234'.

Norah needs to show some level of professionalism. If she wants to voice her opinion, label it as such and have at it. I'm just tired of the 5-10 second pauses following any report they show about Trump for her to either roll her eyes or bite her tongue.

I've been the watching CBS Evening News with Norah as anchor for the past few months, and it seems that they've went for the ABC route with the overly dramatic speaking style and always using "breaking news" or variants of the term every single night, no matter how truly breaking the news is. Norah does a decent job, but I still prefer Jeff Glor or Scott Pelley.

I tried to give her a chance, but her open disdain for Trump and his administration turned me off.  Her lack of objectivity is shocking when compared to Lester and David.

SIDE NOTE: Just to be completely clear...I am not a supporter of Trump (never have been/never will be). I just wish more journalists would abide by certain tenets of journalism, especially during these times.

I'm confused. Are we still waiting for a new WNT set or is what we see now going to be it?

I think priorities have shifted (for obvious reasons) and they will unveil it at some point in the future. They accomplished the goal of having it done by the midterms, which was the main reason for building it in the first place.

  6. The newbies are finally on-air (albeit a week later than anticipated). Terrence Lee replaces Rafer Weigel as the new co-anchor of Good Day Wake Up, 4-6A. He started Wednesday (I think). Brittney Garzillo started yesterday & will be a reporter/fill-in anchor.

Savannah is anchoring from her house tomorrow.

Guess it's asking too much for people to take this matter seriously and not make it about themselves. Disgraceful.

With the COVID-19 outbreak, Instant Replay has been shelved in favor of more news. Also, Jackie and Tahman are distancing themselves in the studio, and Mike is doing the weather from a chroma key with a relatively low-res camera elsewhere in the building.

While I can’t speak to WGN (I don’t watch them often), the ‘social distancing’ wasn’t taking place this morning on any channels, so it could be for presentation purposes tonight why it’s being done. The real test will be tomorrow AM and onward.

Honestly, I don’t see the point of it in these situations.

  9. After a long break, WFLD has returned to using ‘Studio 32.’ In addition, they have made some small changes (adding the FOX 32 logo, etc..) to clean up the space.

Now that the space next to them is empty, I wonder if they plan to expand into that area and maybe move the newsroom upstairs. It would be too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I’m surprised today and others haven’t announced that they are not going out to the plaza during this

If you’re referring to ‘this’ being the COVID-19 outbreak, it didn’t stop them from having a outdoor concert with that Harry Styles kid about a week or so ago. No reason for them not go outside as long as they’re being safe and whatnot.

On a side note, interesting that WNT is still on the temporary set up tonight.

To me it made sense (to be on temp set) given this new studio was inspired by the 2018 midterms set and not with WNT in mind. No reason to unveil the set beforehand. Also, if the idea is to keep the current look of WNT, the new setup would likely be where the curved video wall can rise up/down and not along the sides.

Tom Negovan's bio has been removed from the WGN website, just after they debuted the Nexstar layout with an updated headshot for him. No word on if he's actually gone, but it certainly looks like it.

Interesting...I wonder if he’s headed to Good Day Wakeup w/ Roseanne. They could be a solid pair.

He wasn't in the latest slate of GDC promos, so the writing was on the wall. Hopefully his therapy and treatment will help him out, on and off the job.

Let’s be honest... he wasn’t coming back from this. Maybe if he recognized he had a problem and taken a personal leave of absence before all of this broke; the chances of him keeping his job would have been greater.

Nevertheless, hope he continues to seek/receive the necessary treatment he needs.

Siera Santos has been freelancing at 32 for awhile now, so I'll assume she'll take over the #2 role.

It's possible, but my guess is that they select someone else and she would remain in her current freelancing role (along with Mitch). Given the growing # of job openings at WFLD (ranging from anchors/reporters to producers and so on), they likely won't be making any decisions anytime soon.

  15. Shame about Peppler. I really liked her balanced approach when covering the Bears, etc... They can't seem to hang on to their #2 sports anchor/reporter for long. Peppler is the 4th one to leave in the past 5+ yrs I believe.

FOX is likely to ride out Weigel's contract and not renew it. I'm guessing he signed a 3-yr deal in 2017 which means there's just a few months left on it.  The situation remains too troubling to have him on-air in any role.

I predict that a replacement will be named just prior to November 2020 sweeps. 🙃

You’re being too optimistic. No decision will be made before Summer 2021 would be my guess.

WFLD has a few anchor/reporter job listings on their website, and a familiar face might be one of the candidates.

Roseanne posted that Marissa is doing PR and was there with a guest who was on GDC.

They really could have put their money where their mouth is and led with politics tonight if that's the whole reason to set up shop there. A little disappointed it was weather instead.

I agree. I would guess, going forward, Norah will be doing more political reporting (in-studio interviews with lawmakers, etc..) on a regular basis. If not, moving the show to DC would serve no purpose. She definitely is going to have to take on a 'leading role' in their overall political coverage.

Wow, I didn't realize that they use the news set for that show. I've never watched.

Yeah..I’ve only watched a couple of episodes. Short of becoming a Fox 32 employee, this is/was the only opportunity to see the set in person. The lower level (where the studio, newsroom, etc.. are) is pretty cavernous you could get lost if you took a wrong turn.

Overall, everyone was nice and welcoming. This caught my eye on the way in/out. They display photos of everyone (from the GM, Account Reps., Anchors, etc.. in no particular order) which is pretty cool. Apparently, you could wear whatever and pose however you wanted.

Not sure how Weigel comes back from this. The story/alleged allegations are very troubling.

Side Note: I went to a taping of ‘Later with Leon’ last Thursday. Very intimate setting (maybe about 12 seats total for audience members). And yes that’s Robin Robinson (former Fox 32 News Anchor) with CPD Chief Johnson. She works for the CPD these days.

I have a feeling this might have been in the works when they hired Paul Deanno. I wonder if Alicia will take back both weekend mornings and evenings or if they'll just use Pete or a rotating cast on weekend mornings now.

They should just give the shift to Pete. It's clear that no one (under 30) wants to work a weekend morning shift with zero chances of advancement. Just ask Cheryl Scott.
