I hope she does turn up at Fox 32. She would be a huge asset to them.

I wonder who she would be replacing at 32?? Kristen maybe? Or will they be creating a new anchor/reporter role at 32 for Roseanne.

Well, I guess it's the most bland thing that could have come out of this.

They could have at least made everything match (there's wood, two different shades of blue, etc...). Having a cohesive look wouldn't have broken the bank.

  3. Guessing game is over... They’re back in place. No major work done other than replacing the previous video wall/panels with a larger, seamless video screen. Nothing more. Still using old desk and live video camera feed (which has always looked bad).

Why couldn't they just do a reformulated newsroom set?

They could open things back up again (which wouldn’t be a bad idea), so I wouldn’t bet against that being a possibility. Just have to look for tell-tale signs in the newsroom (new paint, etc..) to see ‘if’ that’s the plan.

WMAQ is using the Weather Center as a temp set right now.

Might be worth a new thread if this is indeed a sign of a new set on the way (which I think it might be) Since it's such a small studio, they might be able to get things done in time for sweeps, but then again, they didn't exactly get their current set done in time for sweeps in 2012, so maybe it doesn't matter to them.

interesting and somewhat strange that they changed the standup area nearly a year ago and are just now (possibly) working on other parts of the set.

  6. I just found out that Alicia Roman is pregnant and due in February. She made it public in August, but I haven't been watching the station much as of late.

I'm sure Pete Sack will cover weekend evenings, but I'm curious how they'll cover the weekday Monday and Tuesday 11am shifts since Pete is usually working his teaching job. Maybe move Kalee to Monday-Friday and try to get Pete to cover all weekend morning and evening shifts? Maybe find a freelancer to cover gaps as needed? Maybe get Andy to stay later on Mondays and Tuesdays so that Kalee can just stay on her normal shift?

I would assume they try to keep everything the same (as best they could), but having Pete doing dd on weekends and Kalee M-F @11A would probably be the best solution. I think the sticking points would be if someone is sick/needs a day off and how long Alicia will be away. This is her first child I believe, so I'm guessing at least 2 months off (barring any medical issues. etc...).

  7. I think this is relevant because WGN broadcasts it. The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade is now the Uncle Dan’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

    https://www.chicagothanksgivingparade.com/

Nothing against Uncle Dan’s, but I’m surprised they (CFA) couldn’t track down a bigger title sponsor. This new name sounds weird. I would have just went back to the ‘State Street Thanksgiving Day..’ one or went with the full name..Uncle Dan’s Outfitters.

  8. Her point is not offensive in my opinion. She definitely could have and should have worded it more eloquently but all that’s needed is a little context to understand she wasn’t being offensive.

One would think a former lawyer, of all people, would be able to clearly articulate a point (whatever it may be).

  9. That's sad to hear! Was Warner lead anchor before or after Ron Magers NBC 5 career?

After Ron left for WLS. Which was part of the reason Mark Suppelsa left for WFLD.

  10. Do they necessarily need someone in the Mobile Weather Lab? Surely they could scrap the segment when there’s no one available.

I'm guessing they couldn't get away with 'no weather forecast tonight, you have to wait until tomorrow. sorry (not sorry).' This seems like a last minute decision (maybe whomever was coming in that night was very sick and they dispatched the mobile weather lab to NWI, etc...).

  11. I think people may be reading too much into this. Gayle and Norah (on the surface) appear to be the main anchors with John and now Bianna having the title of 'co-anchor' in name only. I could be wrong, but that's how I view things on CTM. Given Bianna's background, it's a plus to have someone cover/discuss financial news, etc..., which is severely lacking on the big 3 morning shows.

  12. She was rightfully angry because they were changing her show because of the random whim of ABC News. She's not part of ABC News, and she had the right to feel offended because of that. She took a week off, came back and decided to go right back to work, speak of it once and let the ratings in the time she hosted with guests speak for themselves. It happened. It's long over. At this point no matter how much influence Ryan might have, it truly is Kelly's and Gelman's show to do with what they want, and ABC-Disney isn't going to let them go to someplace like CBS, which would only be happy to dump Let's Make a Deal and give them full rein.

Men pull this stuff off too, but we don't hear about it in the tabloid media because it doesn't fit their 'all women are difficult and are Real Housewives off-camera' narrative. The lesson; don't anger your talent for fun, because it'll come back to bite you.

A little late to this, but.... 'Live' existed before Kelly and will likely exist after she's gone. ABC doesn't owe her anything. They hired her and if they so choose, could get rid of her. Everyone involved could've handled the Mike situation better, but what's done is done. Granted, she has played a big part in keeping the ship afloat over the years, that doesn't mean she gets to say/do whatever she wants. The last thing you want to do is feed an ego like hers. The same can be said if she were a guy.

Like you said ' don't anger your talent...,' the same can be said about angering your employer.

  13. For some reason, I don’t think Beyond fits WFLD.

I agree. Maybe if they had updated the graphics to match/go along with the music that would have helped. It sound too coastal (if that make sense) to me. Streaming News will always be my favorite.

  14. Michelle left that shift like a year and a half ago to join Dick, but wasn't announced until early this year, and this is the station that took 2 years and 3 months to replace Rob Elgas at 4:30(/4). Nothing surprises me.

As much as I have criticized Jiggets, Elgas, and others for jumping ship, I now understand why they left. WMAQ seems to have trouble truly valuing their people.

  15. Something I've never seen before...instead of a correspondent, like normal, ABC News pulled a local anchor of one of their stations to fill in for Kendis Gibson on the network's overnight newscasts. Terrell Brown got the nod, and is anchoring the 2 hours before his normal shift. It's an odd and costly arrangement, but Brown did anchor CBS News' overnight fare before coming to Chicago. It begs the question, after 4.5 years at the local level, is he itching to get back to a national audience?

Doesn't seem like the type to bail and appears happy where he's at. Maybe after 7-10 yrs., but not now I don't think. It makes sense to tap him to fill in on WNN given it's a role he has held before, albeit at CBS.

  16. No.. NBC Nightly News was on a downward climb when Brian Williams was at the helm, ABC was becoming more competitive. Lester isn't going to be a scapegoat for an overall industry trend. Less and less people each year are tuning into the network's evening newscast. I myself haven't watched consistently like I used to in for the last 5 or so years. My parents and grandparents turn it off right after the local news wraps. 10-15 years ago the TV was tuned to KTRK Eyewitness News from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. then again at 10 p.m. for the late news, people just don't do that anymore.

Couldn't agree more. I watch maybe 10 to 15 minutes of local news (at 5P, 9P & 10P) and that's it. I just don't have time to watch more than that nowadays. Anything else, I'll just catch up on it on-line. God forbid the apocalypse would occur. I'll be up s*** creek.

  17. I rarely watch, but caught a few minutes of this morning's newscast on NBC5. Alex Maragos was filling in, and apparently Katie Kim is now Susan Carlson's co-anchor on weekend mornings. Though I don't believe it was ever permanent, Christian Farr sat in that seat, last I knew.

Could it be Katie was just filling in for Christian? If I'm not mistaken, when others have filled in for him, they would say, i.e....'I'm Katie Kim sitting in for Christian Farr." But who knows with WMAQ. They tend to do random things and never make anything official (even if it's temporary).

  18. I actually like the "eyeopener" style.

Would be better if they dropped the traditional tease all together.

Not a fan of the eyeopener. It seems too out of place for the evening news. And I don't like that camera moments/shots either. Way too much jumping around the studio (10 secs shot of Jeff at the desk, then a quick shot of the big video screen w/ some random people in the green room, then to the person in the field, etc..). Just way too much going on.

  19. So y'all saying that WFLD is back in the game? Say it ain't so.

They have been making smarter decisions over the past few years coupled with the fact that they have weathered the loss of key people (Herndon, Wall, Smith, etc..) better than in the past. Even the addition of the Good Day After Show (on Facebook) has been a plus in my book.
