  1. And another thing-- the set for this newscast has the 1979 peacock to the left of the title, and the red/blue trapezoidal N to the right!
  2. WTVQ Channel 36 (ABC Lexington, KY): 1990 open for 36 WTVQ Eyewitness News 6 P.M. report
  3. That WJKS one is pretty darn good-- I think it's one of the few times (maybe the only time) I've heard the Cool Hand Luke/NS2000 music on a then-NBC station!
  4. Noticed that one, and the one from WMAR as well-- keep up the good work!
  5. Absolutely! Stay with it (to The ID Junkie).
  6. Partial closing credits from CBS Sunday Morning in 1982
  7. WLS Eyewitness News 10 P.M. report, 1/10/79, in four parts: Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4 (final):
  8. WLS ABC7 Chicago: 1985 6 P.M. Eyewitness News promo featuring anchorman Floyd Kalber
  9. WLS ABC7 Chicago: longform Seven's On Your Side promo from '81 (sung by Florence Warner)
  10. Not much of an open-- they didn't even mention a weather man (unless the main anchor is also doing weather)!
  11. Absolutely! Irv Weinstein was news in Buffalo (by which I mean, he was a shining example of a professional newscaster, at least IMO).
  12. CBS Sunday Morning openings from '81 and '84 w/the late Charles Kuralt: First, the one from Dec. 6, 1981: Then, the one from Dec. 2, 1984:
  13. And WYFF has been News 4 ever since (or to put it more properly, WYFF News 4).
  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h=1;id=EdkynjibqWs;m=22;s=57 From Sept. 21, 1985: an early-season broadcast of The Prudential College Football Report w/Jim Nantz and Pat Haden (the game it was on was Georgia/Clemson, from Memorial Stadium in Clemson, SC; Brent Musburger and Ara Parseghian were the announcers; the game was also from WSPA Channel 7 [CBS station in my area]). Listen out for quite a few mistakes (one being that Jim quotes Georgia as leading 7-3, when the graphic on the monitor shows Clemson as leading by that score).
  15. I did not think to look there! Thanks for the tip on that.
  16. Don't know if it was stated here, but WSPA Channel 7 has a new look (same 7 News title, but different look for the 7, and other assorted graphics):
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtXThNe4HQg WOR New York News 9 At Noon opening from 1986: unlike most noon newscasts, this one had a sports anchor
  18. When it comes to the NBC News Package (which WNBC and L.A. sister station KNBC both use), why is the version for WNBC in NYC more muted (lower-pitched) than the one for KNBC in L.A.? The reason I asked is because that's how it sounded to me, comparing those two NBC O&O sisters.
  19. WLS Chicago Eyewitness News late edition from 3/6/87; listen at the top as Jerry Taft (in for Steve Deshler) is billed "on weather," and Tim Weigel is billed "with sports" (normally, these would be reversed, as the weatherman would be billed "with weather," and the sports anchor "on sports").
  20. You're right-- that wasn't much of an opening or a set. I don't know why they were so minimalist then.
  21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq8ZidTFexE 1993 WSOC Charlotte 5:30 P.M. Eyewitness News closing (What is the name of the music that is playing here? It sounds great).
  22. Here's that 1979 premiere of Sunday Morning from YouTube (video in 3 parts):
