I actually like this a lot.. Better than the boring DIN font.. Hope all the TEGNA ABC stations get this.
Nah. ABC owns the rights to that font and Tegna is doing a rebrand soon.
-
Looks like ABC 10 is revamping their WX graphics just a tad.
The ABC font type.

For the first time in over 12 years (last time I saw them was the first few months of the 2004 graphics), WTMJ has talent opens:

Ugh. These are so cheaply designed!

The f*ck is with this TD Jakes? I feel like I'm watching Daystar on my Tegna station.

False. The style guide handed to WAWV says it was made by Artworks.
Does that say 'NBC Artworks' or just 'Artworks"? Also, style guides only tend to dictate the overall concept not the flushed out and built package.

That's more like corporate overruled him.
Actually, they basically told him that it was a dumb idea, but since he was pushing hard for it, that he could have his way and if sweeps reports showed otherwise, his ass was canned. But his, and to a large extent Remington's reports keep showing massaged numbers. Corporate doesn't get the reports to poor over and make decisions. It's up to the GM to report the numbers, ironically.
-
And you honestly think the News Director and GM had no input?!? That doesn't seem realistic...
He was against it, but Scripps wasn't terribly impressed.
-
As opposed to S!nclair or Nexstar? Even Cox isn't universally loved (**cough** WFXT **cough**) and they have a better reputation than most.
Also remember that KMGH's previous GM was reassigned to WEWS before the "Denver 7" rebrand.
That wasn't the GM or News Director's decision.
Matt Laws IV, the former Assistant Creative Director at WCAU made that decision.

KMGH: The Denver Channel
7 is a shit hole now... Someone should just by Scripps and call it a day. I can't tell you how unimpressed I am with their management.

WKYC has taken some serious liberty in it's use of their graphics/opens and music over the last several months.
Here's a promo sample that uses the same music as the intro and most bumpers.
The supers and headline bar remain the same, but there's some leeway in other things, especially in the teasers.
And at the very end of the newscast, they ditched the TEGNA logo and replaced it with a generic copyright "©2016 WKYC-TV INC"
I doubt they're up for sale or going to be up for sale any time soon, but this is the furthesy yet I've seen a TEGNA station stray from their presentarion.
These graphics are contracted out to Hothaus Creative's project manager Matt Quinn who lives in the Cleveland area. Tegna is in frequent contact with Jon Fox and the Hothaus team, but Tegna's design mission hasn't aligned such that Hathaus is the right choice for the graphics package.

It's in use on their app already, and they've been airing a commercial about a change coming soon, which leads me to believe that it was probably meant for when they rolled out the new website.
Nothing from this reminds me of a Hearst station. Nothing at all.
-
What kind of overhaul? An update to their current website layout (Gannett-TEGNA), or a new one altogether?
Also, speaking of overhauls, I saw what could be KCEN's new logo on google play, so does that mean that it will recieve a change in logos? And will any other TEGNA station that hasn't gotten a new logo in 2 decades get a new logo anytime soon?
An overhaul. Not a facelift. They are distinct.
I mean, I've been here for the discussion (you were the one who brought it up, I distinctly remember), but I'm still calling it Gannettegna-ized based simply on the USAT colors, until if/when the UX change becomes more than theorized conjecture, and my weather is not broadcast with a yellow stripe. The newspaper division choose the branding for themselves and the stations. Now that the stations are their own entity, they'll go in a different direction.

And only three months later, the second Lone-Star station, KCEN went live with the Gannettegna-ized website this morning.
Actually, within a year the websites are being overhauled. Tegna uses a different CDN than Gannett used (Presto). While Tegna kept the look, there are some notable UX differences between the two. Note the way that pages present. Anyway, an overhaul here coming soon.

Since the old Hearst thread got locked. I decided to make a new one where you can talk about anything Hearst. Let's hope this new thread doesn't get out of hand!
Hi, Alec. Can you please remove the word 'new' from the title of this thread? I feel like 2 years old isn't new anymore.
-
Are you saying that TEGNA commissioned Steven Arnold for the package?
No. The first two sentences were commenting on the Fox package that Stephen Arnold station.
The latter was assuring the validity of Tegna overhauling their branding. I don't know who will design the graphics or compose the theme.

-
Are you sure about that? You've said that the Fox O&Os was going to use a brand new music package last year, and that never happened.
I'm sure that the package is complete. Stephen Arnold told me himself. Who knows when it will air or if it got scrapped.
This is according to a Tegna staff member. I can't say who though.
-
A possible graphics reboot altogether? I mean, alot of those Lone Star stations still haven't gotten their website upgrades yest, much less the L3 update with the rundown.
On the flip side, I think these graphics have been around since 2013, so maybe it is time for a redo...
Tegna will see a branding overhaul in the next year. Their web backend (Gannett's Presto) has switched to something new. If you compare any of the broadcasting website UX with one of the newspaper's UX, you will see subtle differences.
Tegna is planning to overhaul the web design within the next year and then graphics, music, branding will totally flip the dichotomy away from Gannett.

I think there's a better chance of, say, Hearst buying Scripps than ABC buying Scripps or Scripps buying ABC.
On the bright side, if ABC did ever decide to sell all of their stations, at least we know which two companies wouldn't be able to buy them...
I've said this again and again. Gray is more likely buying Scripps. That said, let's keep this speculation to a minimum in this thread.

They don't seem fond of anything under 72.
Great of senior citizens!

"The Crack" weekdays at 3, before "The Now" on Denver 7.
* "Cracked". Weekdays at 3 followed by "The Now" on 7News.
There, I fixed it.

WISH-TV/Indianapolis' News Director (Elbert Tucker) is leaving and is headed to WKRN/Nashville.

Making a run for it because WISH 8 is a sinking ship? 24-hour local news can't be very profitable.

Because FOX operates the black helicopters and we don't discuss that here.
Lol. I'm not 100% sure what the deal is, but I'm going out on a limb and saying SSA.
-
Channel 2's news department is the same operation as Channel 31's. They haven't been separate since 2008.
Exactly. It would be an easy integration.

The 2011 graphics launched on a Monday in August.
I remember random crap like that.
Gee. Another way we're similar.
