1. No, no. I like multiple teams on an evening slate of broadcasts; my station of choice mixes and matches 6 evening anchors across 5 broadcasts. However, I think if a station airs a full hour at 4, 5, 6, whenever, the same 2 anchors should carry the whole program, and not switch one or both out halfway through.
2. 30 minutes shifts on 60 minute broadcasts bugs the crap out of me. Are they separately-branded broadcasts (not that that makes it any better)?
3. Good for her. I understand the strategy of having a big draw like her as anchor at launch, but it did seem quite odd that she'd not only be expanding her airtime, but pushing her work day to after dark at this point in her career. Plus, this would likely return her to daytime duty just in time for Krashesky to ascend to the late shift (if that rumor is true). This should also eliminate any possibility of Cheryl joining Kathy at the big kids' table at 10. In addition, I'm guessing Linda will back up Kathy at 6 with more regularity.
4. ...and Brian and Sharrie and Walter... Pretty much everybody but Jim.
5. Stumbled across this thumbnail on their Vimeo account. Look how much they love each other! They're all having so much fun! Gag me.
6. I could totally seeing him drop one broadcast (I'd bet the 5), and hang around another year or so. I wouldn't be surprised if the bosses would appreciate some veteran stability on the late show in the months after the Taft/Scott transition, and are willing to sweeten the deal to keep him a little longer.
7. One of Ron Magers' horses might be headed for the Kentucky Derby in May. Also, according to Feder, Krashesky is likely to succeed Ron after May sweeps, but nothing is confirmed. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/28/robservations-chicago-pubcasters-launch-news-partnership/
8. Only like 3,450 years...give or take a day.
9. The real abomination is that version of the Circle 7 they use. Woof.
10. Absolutely, as they should, and as I do. There are 2 (about to be 3) others on the team more qualified, but she was hired with this intention. With how rumors go around (and I'm not talking about on here), if management wasn't as high on her, we probably would've heard some rumblings.
11. Were people really unsure about this? The only way I could see her not getting the title is if they go back to the old practice of nobody carrying the title.
12. Cheryl Scott's will assume the 10 within months, and the chief title when he retires. Mowry will not be the #1, barring unforeseen circumstances.
13. I imagine he moves up within a year. Once Jerry retires, I am confident that someone will shift to weeknights, likely at 4 or 5 and 6. Could they have Cheryl do all the nightly shows? Yes, but then why would they use Phil so often when Taft or Scott are off? So while he may not leave weekends, Larry could very well shift to evenings, or maybe even higher up the ladder. Either way, this is a really good hire, and even though I've warmed up and accepted her, Mowry's a better get than the last new employee in that department.
14. KTVT (CBS Dallas) chief meteorologist Larry Mowry joins WLS (ABC Chicago) on April 11th as weekend morning meteorologist, a role he held briefly in 2004. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/23/its-official-larry-mowry-joins-abc-7-weather-team/
15. Official: Larry Mowry starts on Monday, April 11th. He will simply fill Troy's vacancy (Sat. AM and Sun 5AM), as there's no mention of Phil dropping the post-6AM Sunday slot he's filled for 21 years. It's not directly mentioned, but the fact that he'll fill in on other broadcasts makes it seems like Larry will be full-time, unlike his Saturday morning predecessors...including himself. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/23/its-official-larry-mowry-joins-abc-7-weather-team/ Edit: Based on the station's official release, he will do both weekend mornings. Phil's finally going to get some sleep. http://abc7chicago.com/careers/meteorologist-larry-mowry-returns-to-abc-7/1259324/
16. He's supposedly anchoring in Brussels tomorrow night. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up on GMA, depending on when he arrives, though Amy should have that covered.
17. "Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL" No shit. I didn't notice, did it say when that listing went up? One would think the search would've been on for the month that they've known Stefan was leaving. I think it's a bit of a slap in the face to pass over some deserving internal candidates, but that's their choice, I guess. One of these days they might consider getting someone to permanently co-anchor at 4:30pm, too, instead of the rotation of Johnson and Stafford.
18. Didn't want to show this one, out of respect for everyone's eyeballs, but yes...
19. Like 3 months ago.
20. I tweeted back (and quoted on the air) that it's a car wreck, you can't look away. They posted a close-up that both hypnotizing and vomit-inducing. That said, he's in pretty good shape for almost 64.
21. Speaking of body image. This is why you don't make sports bets... And yes, it will be on the 10pm sports.
22. Jerry seems to have lost a few pounds. Where's his article? Really. It's kinda pathetic. Not you guys, the fact that the article exists in the first place.
23. I'll agree with you on the show's direction, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the implication that Amy, Ginger and Michael are a part of the problem. Those 3 are good enough and versatile enough as television personalities and in their specific roles to handle a newsier format.
24. You're not alone. Crossed my mind once.
25. Now, now, we established that that was proper usage of the term...an outdated term only really used by 70 year old white guys on the cusp of retirement.
