1. Were people really unsure about this? The only way I could see her not getting the title is if they go back to the old practice of nobody carrying the title.
2. Cheryl Scott's will assume the 10 within months, and the chief title when he retires. Mowry will not be the #1, barring unforeseen circumstances.
3. I imagine he moves up within a year. Once Jerry retires, I am confident that someone will shift to weeknights, likely at 4 or 5 and 6. Could they have Cheryl do all the nightly shows? Yes, but then why would they use Phil so often when Taft or Scott are off? So while he may not leave weekends, Larry could very well shift to evenings, or maybe even higher up the ladder. Either way, this is a really good hire, and even though I've warmed up and accepted her, Mowry's a better get than the last new employee in that department.
4. KTVT (CBS Dallas) chief meteorologist Larry Mowry joins WLS (ABC Chicago) on April 11th as weekend morning meteorologist, a role he held briefly in 2004. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/23/its-official-larry-mowry-joins-abc-7-weather-team/
5. Official: Larry Mowry starts on Monday, April 11th. He will simply fill Troy's vacancy (Sat. AM and Sun 5AM), as there's no mention of Phil dropping the post-6AM Sunday slot he's filled for 21 years. It's not directly mentioned, but the fact that he'll fill in on other broadcasts makes it seems like Larry will be full-time, unlike his Saturday morning predecessors...including himself. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/23/its-official-larry-mowry-joins-abc-7-weather-team/ Edit: Based on the station's official release, he will do both weekend mornings. Phil's finally going to get some sleep. http://abc7chicago.com/careers/meteorologist-larry-mowry-returns-to-abc-7/1259324/
6. He's supposedly anchoring in Brussels tomorrow night. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up on GMA, depending on when he arrives, though Amy should have that covered.
7. "Must be willing to work in Chicago, IL" No shit. I didn't notice, did it say when that listing went up? One would think the search would've been on for the month that they've known Stefan was leaving. I think it's a bit of a slap in the face to pass over some deserving internal candidates, but that's their choice, I guess. One of these days they might consider getting someone to permanently co-anchor at 4:30pm, too, instead of the rotation of Johnson and Stafford.
8. Didn't want to show this one, out of respect for everyone's eyeballs, but yes...
9. Like 3 months ago.
10. I tweeted back (and quoted on the air) that it's a car wreck, you can't look away. They posted a close-up that both hypnotizing and vomit-inducing. That said, he's in pretty good shape for almost 64.
11. Speaking of body image. This is why you don't make sports bets... And yes, it will be on the 10pm sports.
12. Jerry seems to have lost a few pounds. Where's his article? Really. It's kinda pathetic. Not you guys, the fact that the article exists in the first place.
13. I'll agree with you on the show's direction, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the implication that Amy, Ginger and Michael are a part of the problem. Those 3 are good enough and versatile enough as television personalities and in their specific roles to handle a newsier format.
14. You're not alone. Crossed my mind once.
15. Now, now, we established that that was proper usage of the term...an outdated term only really used by 70 year old white guys on the cusp of retirement.
16. But with a better script, for sure.
17. Kane County is 40-60 miles out of downtown. West from the lakefront, Kane is third inland (Cook and Dupage between).
18. Yeah, LD7Max (I'm abbreviating it) isn't as gimmicky as I expected, but the logo doesn't read well.
19. Personally, I think Baskerville is overrated, and 2 of the others on that team should transition into the lead role. However, while I don't think they have the right person in the chief's role, WFLD's weather staff is pretty damn good these days...but that's about all they have going for them.
20. Jerry Taft commented on the article. Shots fired... "What NBC5's Frank Whitaker has failed to recognize is that in the end it's more about the pilot than the equipment. We finally proved that in Vietnam with the F4 vs. the Mig 21. Our Ch7 squadron is coming into form. With the addition of Scott and Mowry our pilots are poised for the future. Whitaker employed Scott at channel 5 and failed to recognize her talent. Shame on him..." Forget calling out Whitaker's comments. Forget his strong defense to Cheryl. HE JUST CONFIRMED THE MOWRY HIRE. I'm sure the bosses will love that.
21. Keeping up with the Jones. That's about it.
22. http://www.robertfeder.com/2016/03/18/live-doppler-7-max-joins-abc-7-weather-arsenal/#more-10834 Well, damn. The name may be a little cheesy, but the build-up and hype might be legit. That said, it sounds like NBC 5 isn't taking this one lying down...though as a weather major, the hundred times more powerful statement seems rather fishy. Either way, it goes live Monday at 4. From the station... http://abc7chicago.com/weather/abc7-live-doppler-7-max/1251864/
23. Michelle Charlesworth also posted something. Based on all the light fixtures in this small room, I wonder if this batch will not be taped in the studio, though they could be there for makeup. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
24. This perfectly explains why a potential station sale scares me. You know a staff like that would not be retained under just about any other owner.
25. Maybe in emergencies. I could believe that. One would think that if he's in the Hamptons, he's probably off (and Lord, does he have a lot of time off) and is not to be bothered unless absolutely necessary.
