  1. Just in time, phillyvideofan's Hurricane Andrew collection has a WLNE 1992 open with a theme I've NEVER heard before and may not be in the NMSA. With the voice of Paul Anthony in his prime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RXuJUPUiGQ (5:52)
  2. "South Florida's News Station" had relaunched by late 1988...but this rare 11pm open from when it still had to air the NBC network didn't last beyond then. (December 22nd, 1988? That's the Lockerbie bombing, and a day had probably passed)
  3. John Christopher Burns has some new old stuff out... News 8 Austin 1999 montage: Bay News 9, 1997: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_crODX2IGYo (home of seriously good Primetime News cuts!) And, despite being non-classic, still merits a posting for interest: a full montage of the WJCL-WTGS redo he debuted last year: It appears WTGS is also now using the Eyewitness News package (new information to the NMSA). I wonder which television station is next for JC to tackle. He's been working a lot with New Vision TV of late (KOIN, KIMT, WKBN, WJCL), so perhaps KHON-2 Honolulu?
  4. One says "Cap Cities ABC", which dates it to the 1980s. Others look definitely 1960s-70s.
  5. Brian Allen keeps showering Iowa goodies. Bold titles are new to the NMSA record. WHO 1996 open: WHO 1977 EWN open (with Part of Your Life): (and a young Jack Cafferty) KCCI 1996 open: (by this time, Jeanette Trompeter had been replaced by Cynthia Fodor) KCAU/KCAN 1995 open (Making a Difference continues to be found LATER): WHO 1988 open (with First News): WHO 1982? open (with Look for Us):
  6. KCAU-KCAN 1994 open (10pm): (same GFX as WXII; later than listed by the NMSA for Making a Difference) KCAU 1998 talent open: (not in the NMSA; Great News)
  7. It's raining Jim Heath: KVOA 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNHrrcwgChU KPNX 1994 (complete with singing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO8RZYjmNLs KSAZ 6pm 1994 (different VO): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uSmaCbknNA KSAZ 6pm weekend 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8M1nQhmuYI KSAZ promo 1994: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yALweQIk9PA (September 13th was the first weekday after they lost CBS; yes, that's John B. Wells!) KSAZ promo #2, 1994 (with their image campaign, the Spirit of Arizona): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iSnyvAKoOs
  8. KREM 2 News open (1983, previously unknown): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eD9Tau9Z6RQ NewsActive3's new CLOSES collection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrLsv0D2bNw (all of them are matched to opens in his collection)
  9. jcbD and New Vision TV are getting really deep with each other...WKBN, KOIN, KIMT (there's no question in my mind about that one), and now WJCL. The package is OK. Lots of green and blue, with some virtual set elements (for weather). I'd like to see how he'd do KHON. I think that'd be one interesting look indeed.
  10. ...Those are not KXTV promos, they are KTXL promos. But they do have some harsh digs at KCRA ("...but we tell them this is Where the News Comes First!" stands out).
  11. Then you should be pretty happy with this latest batch he whipped up. Most notably, amidst all the opens, a short WTKR Ignitor open (has the apocalypse occurred yet?....no?!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUXrs9CwWOE
  12. When you use an open too long and need to modify it...this happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHea_xnnGms (4:22 – the original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUqKCYTX80U (13:05 – heavily modified) WTEN Albany heavily edited its original open from the early 2000s and still uses it. *Added digital IDs. *Cut out the middle portion. *New music package and voiceover. *Watch it loop at the end (when Scott Chapin says "The News Station").
  13. NewsActive3 keeps chugging along. Highlights of this collection include a WYFF John Christopher Burns-era open; an old WCBS open; and KNXV from 2000 (a surprisingly elusive catch). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYKangZqJeU If you get tired of hearing "And I'm Morris Jones" by the end of this thing, I do not blame you.
  14. It's the 70s in Sacramento... KOVR Action News 1975 (in full): KOVR Action News 1978: (Part of Your Life) KCRA Channel 3 Reports 1978: (plus an early prototype of the "Where the News Comes First" musical signature?) KCRA Channel 3 Reports 1975 (in full): (get a load of that news desk) There's more, but those are the only complete opens.
  15. Another great batch of that news open collection that seems to never end! Highlights include a two-minute dose of WFLA in its Bold Horizons era, late 1970s? KYW opens, a funny News 4 New York "Energizer Bunny" promo from circa 1990, a funny 5pm WANE-TV news promo, and a certain Philly promo that speaks for itself. My personal favorite is another KWCH Eyewitness News open (from circa 1993 or 1994?).
  16. There are some true highlights of that collection, including a one-minute singing KGO weather promo! (And the KNXV and KTSP opens don't hurt either.)
  17. The Delta's News Source would like to enter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvzesOcsCHQ (first one) 1. What's the name of the newscast? 2. In the talent open...holy flipping and squished images!
  18. Want the 90s back? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvzesOcsCHQ Part 53 of the longest TV news open collection in history (I think?). Among the highlights: a bad WABG open, KWCH from the mid-1990s, an Alabama boatload (all new, as well), a WALA open from NBC Nightside overnight news, and the countdown clock that changed WBMG to WIAT in 1998.
  19. I found this last month while perusing a large batch of opens from the English for the Children movement, including 2001 WGGB opens. WGGB 1993 coverage of a fire in Holyoke, Massachusetts; buried inside are three news opens from a previously unknown package. Chris Clausen voices. (2:18 - First at 5 open) (3:40 - 6pm open) (starts with the 11 @ 11 open) I sent this off to the NMSA but got no response.
  20. Someone hit a gold mine in Spokane! All from the early 1990s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c32ktcrXh0 (1991 KHQ newsbreak: Image V...perhaps 1988 in fact?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ4cf3aDZrQ (1993 KHQ, already in the worst opens thread) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLUfCAZz2a4 (late 1987 KREM, a new open) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZtZ9zc9gTs (1991 KAYU KREM-produced)
  21. Something a bit different, but great graphic design...in Spanish, no less. The network only lasted some three years. Telenoticias 1995: (possibly from the network's first broadcast; based in Miami) *"A new level of excellence in international news coverage" promo with spinning globe *Opener *3D ID More: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niBZKwgm6PA *In addition to the promo above and some break bumpers... *Vida (lifestyles) segment opener *Negocios (business) segment opener (Isn't that music package beautiful?) Long close: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iktitT6vs74 Two years later, CBS gained control and added its name to the network... Telenoticias 1997 (transition): *Notice the CBS Telenoticias signage and promotions though the Telenoticias graphics appear at some points *A Telenoticias promo using the America's Station production music (sounds like 615's Pinnacle?) from FirstCom: "The Best Way to See the World Closer" CBS Telenoticias 1997: *Headlines *Opener with flying CBS eye and world element: "CBS Telenoticias...world news in 30 minutes." *Better copy of 1997 news theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZWl4CBef7Q (the beginning sounds like CBS, too!) Some American stations carried some of Telenoticias' newscasts, at least in late 1994 or 1995: WSNS, KUBD (now KPXC), XHRIO (now the Fox border blaster in Brownsville), and KMSG among them. Also Mexico City's XHTVM (a station with far more than a colorful history, which needs to be read to be fully understood) rebroadcasted some newscasts. The look is very nice, and I almost wonder if it's the same firm that did WTVJ in this time frame and/or the same designers as WSVN's Newsplex given the Miami connection.
