  1. KXLY in 1987:
  2. The carpet ad two minutes in on the WCPO clip has the 80s-90s voice of KMOV... And whoever made that WRCB open was thinking TVbD! There's a 1991 KOB "News 4 New Mexico" tease toward the end here...
  3. A clean one-minute instrumental of the image song to Tuesday16/Real Radio! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=BJxBzzqkxGQ;t=59
  4. Hopefully someone will enjoy this 40th anniversary special from KSFY in 2000: But this I can get behind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=1FlNu0dWXes;t=19
  5. There actually is some information on this theme. You are not far off, but it is not Non-Stop! There is a BMI entry for KSFY under Bestor. BTW, Pinnacle Music is mentioned in the Hartford Courant, so they composed WVIT 1998: "After Channel 30 came up with the concepts, the graphics were developed by EGAD (Electronic Graphics and Design) of Dallas and the music was composed by Pinnacle Music Group of Utah, said Chris Gallagher, creative services director."
  6. And from the other end, a KSAZ 9pm news tease (and AZAM promo) from 1998: Here's the whole newscast...
  7. Mark Curtis with a mustache! If not for those two December '85 newscasts that already had We're Going Where You're Going as the close, this would have been so confusing... Speaking of We're the Team, here's another one from KSTP — and no, that's not a typo! And a few years earlier, KSTP had changed to ABC: Also, this is not a newscast, but it's just as much of a gem.
  8. More OKC potpourri. KWTV and KTVY included. From 1984.
  9. Unfortunately, this might be the rarest large market tape-wise. Salt Lake Tribune, August 28, 1989:
  10. There's also an image campaign to this. It's one of the larger packages we have little of. The Oklahoman's TV columnist was not totally fine with it, though, saying "It was pretty, but unfortunately longer than most hymns on Easter morning."
  11. There's a lot to process here... -Note the lingering Fresh News graphics (weather and sports) mixed with CBS News L3s. I wonder if Fresh News was used on the other newscasts, almost all of which KPHO had to add upon affiliation. (Prior to the switch it had only 90 minutes of news a day, an hour-long 9pm and its 11:30) -That is a zippy and serviceable newscast. It's actually enjoyable. No wonder it stuck around. -That KFOR sample is mighty interesting. You can clearly hear the liner for the matching image campaign in that signature: "We are the strength of Oklahoma...4 Strong!" I am uploading something here that I believe is part of this theme (and sending it to the NMSA after 2 years). It is the audio of a 30-second sports promo that KFOR put up when Bob Barry, Jr. was killed in 2015. It has the same signature at the end. It must be from 1990 or 1991 when KFOR was still branding as News Team 4. Why is that important? 'Cuz KFOR changed out the Team for Channel in 1992. Listen to these promos, too! Seeing that also led to finding this KTEN item on the channel:
  12. The two audio tracks on that KDFW lottery drawing are...wow. Also, those man-on-the-street interviews are absolutely painful!
  13. A full one-hour morning newscast from KMEX in 1999 — in fact, the first edition of the first Spanish-language local morning newscast in the country!
  14. More Des Moines with this 1993 KCCI noon show:
  15. It was a combination of suddenly having to expand (they literally said of a full 10pm, which would have featured the 9pm duo of Karen Carns and Fred Powers, “We’re not staffed to do it” — though GM Pat North promised "We will do it as soon as we possibly can, probably midseason") and then finding that their stopgap late news was a ratings contender. It wasn't until the 1998 "CBS 5" relaunch that they had a full-length 10pm. That theme sounds like Kalehoff. I am anxiously awaiting seeing this — it's one of the last big gaps we now have for KPHO!
  16. Time for more of Today's 10, a March 1993 weekend edition with Rick D'Amico. The Storm of the Century leads the news:
  17. Roger Thompson is the voice of this KNXV station ID:
  18. This is actually a condensed WSFA Ten O'Clock Report from 1985. And a full KOCO show from the same year: There's also this *third* KSAZ post-CBS promo matching the other two we'd already had: The KPHO materials, BTW, back up the 1981-86 assertion I outlined earlier. That theme/graphics package was new in '81.
  19. From 1985, it's WAVE TV News Tonight: And WCCO's 10pm Report from 28 years ago today:
  20. Ouch, that KJCT open is just...yuck. Fonts, colors, the whole mess.
  21. WGBC and WMDN are expanding their most recent effort to their CBS and NBC streams with new 6pm and 10pm shows, "Twin States News". A 9pm is already airing on Fox.
  22. A whole reel of KOAT footage from this photographer who spent five months there in 1998. Starts out with a shot of his John Christopher Burns-designed business card (and other graphics that still jump off the screen 20 years later!). How had I not seen this before?
  23. The FCC complaint didn't work for KTVK, though it arguably saved WWSB.
  24. A KNXV Fox 15 promo from Saturday, May 21, 1994. On Monday morning, they'd learn...they wouldn't be the Fox affiliate much longer. What's next on NewsChannel 3?
  25. Coal train comin' through...two new WCHS opens! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=yBIhhWT_5CQ;t=2023
