The Nexstar duo in Midland/Odessa got a makeover - and an HD upgrade! A new set, control room, graphics (KMID - the new WFRV package), and name. KMID is now Local 2 News (With a very KJRH-esque logo) With this upgrade, KMID jumps to the best looking (cosmetics-wise) in the market. Production of their news still has a long way to go. KPEJ's facebook reports that FOX 24 will get news in early 2016.

Pulled a WVTM with that logo, and I like it. The peacock in the middle is unique. This is well overdue and welcome. I love that they're using Evolution, too.

They'll be using the KYW HotHaus package from the looks of it, and in their videos I hear Indie-Band News by Stephen Arnold.

Watching their newscasts is dreadful.

I love the open, and to me, it seems newsier in areas of the graphics (lowers, transitions). The older opens are bland and slow compared to this. The updated music is nice as well.

KMID and KPEJ rebranded and relaunched their website to YourBasin.com, which is way better than their former 'PermianBasin360.com'

I'd prefer they use the cut WFAA does, I think it's more authoritative. I've also never liked the voice over they use for the reason you state - It's too weak. -

Strive will continue to get updates as long as Hearst uses the package, and from what I hear, that's going to be for another few years.
