    In Memoriam

Those of us of a certain age will remember Rankin/Bass productions. Jules Bass died recently. Rankin died years ago. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/jules-bass-dead-rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer-1235414059/
  2. Neville Miller is moving to weekdays at KMBC-TV. Opinion only, but a Busby retirement is probably close.
  3. This week, TV News Check was writing about Scripps. https://tvnewscheck.com/business/article/e-w-scripps-a-company-at-home-with-continuous-change/ https://tvnewscheck.com/journalism/article/for-scripps-symson-journalism-and-perpetuation-are-twin-pillars/ https://tvnewscheck.com/uncategorized/article/in-newsy-now-scripps-news-an-alternative-to-cable-news-talk-radio-leanings/

  5. FOX Weather's simulcast on TV beat the Weather Channel in the ratings. https://thehill.com/homenews/media/3672349-fox-weather-simulcast-tops-weather-channel-in-viewer-ratings-during-hurricane-ian/
  6. A little late, but Scott Reiss has moved from San Francisco and joined KCTV in Kansas City as sports director. He had been a freelancer at KTVU and worked half the year on Stanford football/basketball. https://www.facebook.com/ReissKCTV
  7. Update on the RSNs: https://nypost.com/2022/09/20/mlb-nba-and-nhl-may-buy-biggest-owner-of-regional-sports-tv-networks-sources/
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if he was fired. Criticizing the company publicly is unprofessional in any industry.
  9. Streaming is awkward right now. Maybe a tech purchase is on the horizon? (edited to add tweet)

CNN's Bernard Shaw died at age 82. He retired back in 2001. https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/08/media/bernard-shaw-obituary/index.html?utm_term=link&utm_medium=social&utm_content=2022-09-08T13%3A21%3A04&utm_source=twCNN
  11. Put on all the news you want, but job candidates aren't magically appearing. Gray was trying to find people willing to work remotely to put news on at KVVU. I don't know if anyone took them up on their offer.

  13. Julie Chin of KJRH is recovering from a stroke.
  14. This is a bit old, but Westword wrote again about KDVR/KWGN departures. They basically transcribed some brief podcasts a reporter did last November describing her brief five years in TV news. She added a July 2022 update about waiting tables in Winter Park (she now works in marketing for the resort). "Devastating takedown" is not how I would describe it. Some people can handle the life and some people can't. https://www.westword.com/news/ex-fox31-reporter-aimee-lewiss-devastating-takedown-of-tv-news-14792007
  15. Personally, I like the branding concept. But if the station is to leave the cellar, it will be because viewers like the on-air talent, not the graphics or the slogan.

  17. The cost-cutting is inevitable. If NBC drops an hour, everyone else will too. I doubt the scenario of shifting the late-night line-up 30-60 minutes is realistic.
