  1. Julie Chin of KJRH is recovering from a stroke.
  2. This is a bit old, but Westword wrote again about KDVR/KWGN departures. They basically transcribed some brief podcasts a reporter did last November describing her brief five years in TV news. She added a July 2022 update about waiting tables in Winter Park (she now works in marketing for the resort). "Devastating takedown" is not how I would describe it. Some people can handle the life and some people can't. https://www.westword.com/news/ex-fox31-reporter-aimee-lewiss-devastating-takedown-of-tv-news-14792007
  3. Personally, I like the branding concept. But if the station is to leave the cellar, it will be because viewers like the on-air talent, not the graphics or the slogan.

  5. The cost-cutting is inevitable. If NBC drops an hour, everyone else will too. I doubt the scenario of shifting the late-night line-up 30-60 minutes is realistic.
  6. David Oliver is returning to WIBW-TV to be the evening co-anchor, replacing the retiring Ralph Hipp. He's been out of the business for a while, but previously worked at WIBW-TV in the 1990s.

I imagine most of you saw that NFL hall-of-famer Len Dawson (Chiefs, KMBC-TV, HBO, etc.) died today at age 87. KMBC-TV is in the middle of an hour-long special about Dawson. You might check their website at a later time to see if they upload the whole thing.
  8. WESH couldn't put the news on Sunday night. https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wesh-in-orlando-evacuated-over-bomb-threat-sunday-night-newscasts-canceled/243623/
  9. This is quite the paragraph from the Deadline article. The demographic focus of the CW will also change over time, Carter said. Historically, shows like Riverdale, All American, Arrow and Supernatural have focused on viewers in their teens through their 30s. The reality, though, is that the average CW viewer is 58 years old, and Carter said that schism explains why the CW is the lowest-rated broadcast network.
  10. Good for the sellers, squeezing some cash out of that thing. I hope not too many people are emotionally attached to the existing CW programming.
  11. FOX Weather has started sending me a "FOX Weather Agenda" email each day, teasing the next day's coverage. Maybe I should forward it on to NN.
  12. I know we joke about the age of the typical soap opera viewer, but university students were surprisingly loyal soap viewers, at least when I was in school. People would gather in the common areas of dorms to watch every day. That was also a time before cell phones, of course.
  13. Ouch. In a market like Chattanooga, the morning news probably uses a skeleton staff on a normal day. If you can't put on the news, that means you literally have no producer, no air talent, no director-- and maybe enough people working sick on the nightside staff that you can't hold them over for a double shift all night. https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/widespread-covid-outbreak-forces-chattanooga-station-to-cancel-morning-newscast/243150/
  14. By the way, we thought NN had made a mistake sending us the promos for the Cuomo interview earlier today. I didn't realize they had decided to rerun the interview tonight.
  15. NN poked some fun at themselves in a recent promo. https://fb.watch/eAbZwWxX2t/
  16. KXRM in Colorado Springs had some Twitter problems tonight (the tweets, indeed, the station's account are all gone).

  18. You can charge a little more for ads that are in local news time. That's what buyers want. In case where CBS is competing against one of its own affiliates, it sounds like they hired a couple of people to slap some local news together, but most of the hour is canned material from the network, or from an out-of-market O&O. Here is Seattle's A-block.

  20. 3:00 p.m. news (30 minutes) is coming in September.
