Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
Breaking News replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
WOW....Do people watch Tennis like that? Ok let see how this will play out. Does Sinclair have the $$$ for this? I know it business, but they're being like the fat kid at the party eating all the cake from everybody else. -
During Gannett run {pre-TEGNA & BELO} has a thing for many of their stations having a 7:00 news vs. a 4pm show. I know Phoenix has a locally produce show and evening news but with WKYC, WLTX, WJXX, WUSA {&formally WXIA did as too} produce a 7pm show. Now Scripps has some stations Detroit, Indy, now Cincinnati with 7pm news. Surprise WMAR, WFTS, & WEWS didn't get into the 7pm local news race.

TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion
Breaking News replied to ABC 7 Denver's topic in Corporate Chat
I know the company TEGNA but I've been saying Gannett/TEGNA because I'm so use to Gannett. Anyway they've updated their apps. I've been watching alot of KARE 11 on the app and 11 ALIVE. The previous app I thought was great, but the new app maybe even better. Has anyone tried or like the new app for the TEGNA stations? BTW I didn't realize how polish KARE 11 News product is. It doesn't seem too Gannett-ish/TEGNA-ish if that make sense.- 3687 replies

Will we see by year 2020 that Locally owned stations will cease to exist in broadcast and all stations will be owned by a media conglomerate?
-
Was there discussion on WEAR updated logo seems it been like this for a several months. Thoughts? The bird still flying next to the three.
-
Why not add WJW to the duopoly picture? Where did the Indians telecast go? Back in the day this station along with a slew of stations had the games telecast? Did they get too expensive for stations to pay for? Indians, Cavs game would do great for WUAB. It seems that when 19/43 merge 43 was always the big dog, but when CBS move to 19 they totally forgot about 43 and poured all their resources into 19 instead of 43.

Thoughts of the new logo from WKMG?
-
WOW! There still will be a 10pm news just for 30 minutes so they still will compete for the first 30 minutes. Several things come to mind here. In 2001/2002 WKBD conceded to WJBK in Detroit during the 10pm hour. To see WUAB still with a 10pm in the television climate it only (30minutes) I guess the bottom line is they still see $$$. What does FOX plan to do with MyNetwork TV? Will it cease airing anything or what will be BIG is during the 90s WUAB aired Hercules, Xena (oops forgot NBC commissioned the series) & those Action Pack Movies. Will other affiliates shuffle MyNetwork TV to late night like WUAB is doing?
-
Reported a week ago and I guess it now official since it in the local paper. Starting Sept 7 WKMG will air a 4pm news and will be dumping the Local 6 brand for "News 6 Getting Results" http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/tv/tv-guy/os-wkmg-adds-4-pm-newscast-20150827-post.html

Derek leaving WUSA that kind of big with Derek McGinty, Lesli Foster and Jan Jeffcoat holding the evening newscast down. I wonder will TEGNA poached some talent from WTTG or WJLA or find someone from in-house TEGNA stations.
-
I like the 19 logo but the red/black/white was more of attention grabber than the yellow and blue which seems to be more calmer and relaxing.
-
Seems like alot of talent are leaving the Channel 9 Natalie, Blair, and others as well. Blair staying with Cox though. WSOC & WFTV are both ABC affiliates, with the same owner and the #1 status in ratings. However WSOC doesn't seem to have a strong bench of talent like WFTV. I wonder will WSOC get some young hires that will stay with the station for years to come.

I like Channel 6 News, WKMG News & 6 News that me, but I really don't see anything wrong with (Local 6 News) branding I like it. They've used Channel 6 News, WKMG News prior. Please no to CBS 6 News...Too many stations use the network affiliation/channel # news...their no identity with the generic branding. IMO that the worse branding names. I like Local branding because it different and Post/Graham came up with something different vs the usual branding names. Ok drop the Local 6 News branding and just go with 6 News instead or WKMG 6 News. 6 News sounds better than News 6...that just me.
-
Sources have told ftvlive.com that WKMG will replace the branding name of Local 6 News to News 6 and will move traffic reporter Julie Broughton to the new 4pm news. WESH, WKMG and WFTV will all compete at the 4pm hour of local news and the Local branding been a Post News-week/Graham branding except WJXT & KSAT. http://www.ftvlive.com/todays-news/2015/8/19/shaking-it-up-in-o-town

I thought it was great to have Robinson and Dufala on the 6/11 news. One could wonder if Wittman and Dufala would anchor 5/10pm news? Again there probably no need for Nolan on the newscast just use Wittman/Robinson/Dufala on CBS 19 & have Tucker and Wittman on the 10pm on WUAB.

Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion
Breaking News replied to Smitha A's topic in Corporate Chat
I agree with you I'm not a fan of Sinclair myself either, but have to give them some credit where credit is due. They have made some strides in some of their shops which is shocking. They've been aggressive in talent pool for some of their shops, but they still have a cookie cutter product. I wouldn't say their the best company, but they've been the worst for a long time. Maybe somebody trying to give them a image makeover. -
Rob if the rumors are true that Stephany Fisher going to jump to WAGA after her non-compete is up. I totally see Stephany doing the hour long 11pm and as well as the 5pm. Tom would get moved to Good Day. I'm speculating nothing written in stone, but that how it could go.

WBNS: Legendary weatherman Joe Holbrook who was with the station from 1949-1989 has passed away at 87. http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2015/08/01/columbus-ohio-longtime-wbns-meteorologist-joe-holbrook-dies.html

On the move for today: Martha Sugalski is looking forward to August 6 when her future will be revealed according to Orlando Sentinel Also according to www.ftvlive.com there hearing that Stephany Fisher is to head to FOX owned WAGA-TV after her non-complete clause is up. I think this would be perfect for Stephany. If they can move Tom Haynes to Good Day and have Stephany on the 5 & 11pm broadcast good for you WAGA. Julian Johnson to leave KMOV and to move to WGCL to stay in the company fold. Also it reporting that KMOV to start a 4pm news in the fall which will shuffle the programming schedule on Channel 4. Either The Price is Right will stay at 11am or move to 10am. Y&R currently airs at 4pm will move to 11am or 3pm like (WGCL), or Dr. Phil could move to 9am a lot is going on at KMOV.

I remember back in 1995 WWJ/62CBS was telling people they were getting a local news presence, by late 90s early 2000s they were like it up to CBS. CBS owns a lot of properties with televisions & radio stations. It would be nice if CBS would move them all into one building and CBS could invest in a news operations. Look at the FOX affiliate in Charlotte and we see how FOX bought that operation and invest in a local news program. I think CBS could do it, but the business model would be like FOX 46 in Charlotte, and I also thought if CBS sold it and Sinclair bought the station they would totally be news heavy. As for WJBK(the former TV2) will be in FOX's hands for as long as they can. I don't see FOX selling TV2 FOX 2. I don't know why at the when WKBD had a news outlet CBS didn't try to make a deal with them since they had a news operation and I think Cox owned the station during 94-95.
