  1. I don't think Bill's planning to retire anytime soon. But, when he does, you guys really think David will replace him? I think David fits well for a morning or afternoon show (i.e. in his current role or replacing Ken), but I have a hard time envisioning him as the anchor who is the face of the station's news coverage. Even Rob Powers fits that role better, I think.

Also, don't forget about Rob Nelson. Who knows what'll happen with him down the road.

  2.

What happens when Channel 7 doesn't think things through when introducing new graphic elements?

You can see if you tune in right now and watch as the God-awful rotating 7online/#EyewitnessNews bar covers up part of the school closing/delay ticker. What part does it cover? Oh the part saying if school is closed or delayed.

PS: who thought that #EyewitnessNews was something unique enough to use as the official Channel 7 hashtag? Anyone who's used it knows it gets lumped in with every other EWN in the country. Why not just make it #7online and make all the social media @7online since that's such a strong brand already?!

Why try to promote a hashtag anyway? It's short-sighted social media strategy. If anything, put @ABC7NY there instead.
  3.

I had them streaming and I had noticed that - was Bill working network/GMA yesterday morning? Because he joined about an hour into the coverage, replacing Toni Yates.

I assume they called him in. Diana was also called in to replace Phil.
  4.

They've been 7online.com forever. While some stations change their URLs every few years, ABC 7 has kept theirs. There's something to be said for consistency.

7online is also a lot easier for an average viewer to remember than ABC7ny... Same reason why they prefer to use Channel 7 over ABC7.

You guys hit the nail on the head. As for using Channel 7 over ABC7, it's also more relatable for viewers. Puts the emphasis on the channel and not the network branding. Less corporate, more personal.

That said, they do need to work on brand consistency on social media.

  5.

Am I the only person that thinks it's awfully pretentious to promote the website only as '7online' and not '7online.com'? Why don't they do something like '7on.line' or some crap like that?

7online.com has been around for a while, so I think the assumption is that, by now, viewers know the website. Even if someone didn't put two and two together, they could Google "7online," and the first result would be WABC's website.

I think the fact that it is taking this long to push out the new talent opens means that it is more than just a replacement of the open shots (and ABC logo). ... It has been about a month since those new opens were shot, so I believe they must be holding off because of a new graphics package

They might not be holding off; they may just have a date in mind. For example, they've debuted things in the past around the time of the start of a new television season, which is later this month. There was no indication that they planned to utilize new opens as soon as they were ready.

That being said, let's remember that all of this is wild speculation based on two words -- "new look" -- in the post of another poster on this thread.

  7.

Rob Powers is doing the news headlines on GMA Saturday.

Interesting. ABC News doesn't usually "call up" from stations (except maybe to find a weather anchor on GMA if Sam and Ginger are both out). He anchored World News Now not too long ago, too. Either his agent is good or ABC News brass likes him.
  8.

It had previously aired. I actually got a video of it, it is a very good promo. Likely to replace the current "More reporters on the ground etc..." promo. Very nice promo plus it has the new logo.

Are you able to post it? Not sure which one you guys are talking about.
