  1. Consistent with rumblings that the entire floor is undergoing major construction.
  2. I don’t think props are in order, personally. CBS EN covered it for 10+ minutes of the 30 minute broadcast. How many times can you say ‘Iranian rockets struck an air base with US troops’ over and over again? That’s all that was known at the time of broadcast; anything more was speculation. If WNT carried the story for more than a third of the broadcast, it is consistent with its trend of leveraging the urgency of the news. Also, CBS and NBC immediately followed their evening newscasts with special reports, while ABC is airing normal programming.
  3. This Week is being anchored from the Times Square GMA set.
  4. Sonia Rincon of 1010 WINS will be reporting for Eyewitness News "over the next several days," according to NJ Burkett. I suspect she's filling the Andy Field holiday coverage role.
  5. Pleased to see they are replacing him. I thought they might choose to only have one investigative reporter, which would have been a disservice to the community.
  6. “As we come on the air tonight...”
  7. Between that, her summer arm-block of the clueless passerby, and this moment that some of you might remember, she's due for a raise!
  8. GMA will interview Ronan Farrow tomorrow about Catch & Kill.
  9. I agree. The questions would have to be pointed. As for NBC affiliates airing the show, I see no issue. TODAY has reported on the Lauer issue.
  10. Why would it tarnish her at all? Is she only supposed to have well-liked people on her show to talk about cooking and flowers? 60 Minutes correspondents interview unpopular people accused of crimes all the time, and press them on the details of the crimes they are accused of. Why shouldn't she be able to do the same?
  11. The abrupt end to the main screen adjacent with the random solid blue behind Liz looked silly when they launched the set, and still looks just as silly.
  12. Good Afternoon America was probably the best. That said, over the last few years ABC has gone heavy on the acronym, ditching most references to "Good Morning America" in favor of "G-M-A." So, in that sense, the fact that they came up with 'GMA3' is not terribly surprising. (Not far off from GMA Day.) GMA3 sounds like the strain of a virus your doctor would vaccinate you for.
  13. It doesn’t hurt that he’s married to Barbara Fedida, SVP of ABC News.
  14. If you read the WSJ article I posted in this thread on July 12, you would have seen the following quote: They (she, Zirinsky, and CBS management) obviously know that you don't win back millions of viewers in five days. You and others are missing the important point that Zirinsky did not appoint Jeff Glor to be host of CBSEN. Zirinsky likely felt, ratings aside, that Glor was not a natural fit to anchor the show in the first place. So, your repeated suggestion that CBS churns through talent because of bad ratings (a) is not supported by fact, and (b) glosses over the nuance that Scott Pelley was removed due to a personal dispute with Zirinsky's predecessor, and Jeff Glor was removed because he never belonged there in the first place.
  15. You said "no real ratings bump," referring to Norah's time at CBSEN, which during the reported ratings window was a whopping five days. By the way, you said in your post, "...and that's exactly what they deserve." Why do "they" "deserve" that?
  16. Yeah... it's only 10 seconds, so I admittedly don't care too much about it. But, to your point, it is simple. I wouldn't mind if they instead tried overlaying the logo on top of a clip panning the CBS newsroom, or a clip of Norah walking out of her office toward the set, or something like that. Some shot that says "This is real journalism. Let's go."
  17. Probably waited for the original LCD to die. Lol.
  18. Of course it wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t necessary for them to change the lights to blue or for Norah to wear a pantsuit either. It was a choice. This is nothing new, by the way. When Charlie, Diane, and David each took over WNT, they all cited Peter Jennings in one way or another. For people who work in that business, it’s an act of respect. As I said, the 20 second nod to the show’s legacy was just as much for the CBS News staff as it was for the audience.
  19. Per TVNewser: "Out of the broadcast morning shows, @GMA garnered the most total viewers last week, @TODAYshow was No. 1 among adults 25-54. @CBSThisMorning was the only one of the three to post growth from last year among adults 25-54." https://t.co/oMIvMJyOjH?amp=1
  20. Strong debut. The blues give the show an evening feel, not too different from the blues of WNT and NN. Norah has a commanding presence and brings her own gravitas. This is a show I would watch. The nod to Murrow was just as much for the CBS staff as it was for the audience. She can give a 20 second nod to the show's history in the debut episode and still establish the show as her own. They aren't mutually exclusive.
  21. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/norah-odonnell-previews-cbs-evening-news-debut-apollo-11-retrospective/ I'm pleased to read of plans to double down on investigative reporting. That's a hallmark of journalism and something CBS stands apart in.

  23. The talent opens are sometimes included because the producers just want to experiment, or because the show timeline is a few seconds shorter so the talent opens can fill the time.
