  1. Of course it wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t necessary for them to change the lights to blue or for Norah to wear a pantsuit either. It was a choice. This is nothing new, by the way. When Charlie, Diane, and David each took over WNT, they all cited Peter Jennings in one way or another. For people who work in that business, it’s an act of respect. As I said, the 20 second nod to the show’s legacy was just as much for the CBS News staff as it was for the audience.
  2. Per TVNewser: "Out of the broadcast morning shows, @GMA garnered the most total viewers last week, @TODAYshow was No. 1 among adults 25-54. @CBSThisMorning was the only one of the three to post growth from last year among adults 25-54." https://t.co/oMIvMJyOjH?amp=1
  3. Strong debut. The blues give the show an evening feel, not too different from the blues of WNT and NN. Norah has a commanding presence and brings her own gravitas. This is a show I would watch. The nod to Murrow was just as much for the CBS staff as it was for the audience. She can give a 20 second nod to the show's history in the debut episode and still establish the show as her own. They aren't mutually exclusive.
  4. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/norah-odonnell-previews-cbs-evening-news-debut-apollo-11-retrospective/ I'm pleased to read of plans to double down on investigative reporting. That's a hallmark of journalism and something CBS stands apart in.

  6. The talent opens are sometimes included because the producers just want to experiment, or because the show timeline is a few seconds shorter so the talent opens can fill the time.
  7. Epic Darla Miles moment on air yesterday afternoon. She's a pro.
  8. Mike Marza will be filling in for Joe Torres this weekend.
  9. Am I mistaken or was there a black female meteorologist on WABC for a brief stint in the early 2000s? Can’t remember her name.
  10. There’s no way he would have been given that option.
  11. Unfortunately in television you don’t get time to “prove yourself.” It’s very easy to lose viewers, and very hard to win them back. Zirinsky probably felt he didn’t belong at EN in the first place.
  12. Yes, it's definitely more than just an anchor change. They are considering it a relaunch of the show. Also noticed that the three anchors, who used to sit triangularly across from each other, are now all sitting together in front of a monitor. Much closer to GMA/Today.
  13. My thought as well. Would not be surprising if Bill, who is almost 70, wants to give up either the 6 or the 11 in the near future.
  14. Per Norah's comments on the show this morning, it appears the news will be shared officially with viewers on Monday morning: https://deadline.com/2019/05/cbs-this-morning-gayle-king-norah-donnell-john-dickerson-susan-zirinsky-1202606814/
  15. Are there specific instances (or, better yet, clips) in which this has happened, or are you making more of a general observation?
  16. Or change the channel, or turn off the TV. They can probably charge more for that ad spot.
  17. https://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/abc-owned-stations-hiring-community-journalists Probably won't see her on TV.
  18. 30 minutes of work instead of 2 hours. Hard news instead of The Bachelor recaps and viral videos. Getting to waking up in the morning at 8:00 a.m. instead of 3:00 a.m. Reporting for 60 Minutes, which is the highest profile program in TV news and something he'd be able to do into his 70s. Obviously he chose to stay at ABC and will probably make a lot more money than he would have at CBS. But it isn't as if there were no reason for him to consider CBS's offer. In fact, according to the NY Post's reporting, he did indeed consider the offer.
  19. That would've been a sweet gig for him -- CBS EN anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent. Much more in line with his journalistic chops. But, hey, I guess he likes ABC (and what they're paying). What could CNN possibly have proposed? A one-hour primetime show and Blitzer's heir apparent? Unless, maybe, the CNN proposal was a joint offer with CBS, in the way of Bianna Golodryga.
  20. Sara Haines announced on GMA Day that she is expecting. Will be interesting to see who is rotated through that spot to fill in. Doesn't strike me as one that a serious journo like Amy Robach or Cecilia Vega would fit in. I imagine we could see Paula Faris, Adrienne Bankert, or Lara Spencer.
  21. Jonathan Karl anchored WNT last night. First time?
  22. They're moving to the West Village, which is south of Hudson Yards. It won't be for several years, though.
  23. Where are those two?
  24. She also appeared recently on The Talk as a panelist and criticized Megyn Kelly's blackface comments.
  25. President Trump? Is that you?
