  1. KENS no longer uses that cut, I will post what they use now on Monday if I remember. They actually changed music pretty quickly, less than a month after the G3 look launched.
  2. I don't know why, but I like that custom cue so much better than the crap KENS uses (the same cut as the NW cluster). I wouldn't say it sounds "Texas-y" per se, but it does sound very authoritative. As for the London stations, they all use Stephen Arnold themes. I wonder if they used them on a group wide contract basis similar to Nexstar. If they have a heavy Texas accent to them, I'd say it's more Arnold's style and a coincidence. I will miss Third Coast on KIII though. It definitely fits the market in my opinion, (I've been to Corpus countless times over the past fifteen years for a quick getaway. KIII is the station I usually watch because I can't stand the kiddie corps reporters on channel 6). TiH is a very generic theme in my opinion. It's not as bad as cbs2 makes it out to be, but it also isn't a one-size-fits-all theme. That's why I'm not a big fan of standardization, because certain themes fit certain markets like a glove, and then some are out of place. Like TiH would be very out of place on KIII. But unfortunately standardization is inevitable and here to stay. Also, unlike most people especially those outside the state, I've never really held the Spirit of Texas in high regard. I'm guessing it's because a station here never really used it long-term. KMOL had it in the late 80's but it was gone by 1991 (at the latest, I can't pinpoint an exact date) when they went to their "Straight Talk, Straight Facts, Straight To You" ad campaign.
  3. This sportscaster was fired for saying farewell to two co-workers who were leaving the station. Station is KNOP which has seen changes lately now that they are owned by Gray. [yt]EFmI2Vz11Cc[/yt] Here's an article to give you more context: http://www.northplattebulletin.com/index.asp?show=news&action=readStory&storyID=28780&pageID=3 Also another sportscaster was fired but this time in Fargo: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/fargo-sports-director-faces-felony-assault-charges_b131787
  4. for lack of a better place to put this. I managed to watch an episode of "The Right Side with Armstrong Williams" this morning and the production values on the show are horrible. The last time I watched Armstrong's show years ago, it was filmed in a dark room with a table, kind of like Charlie Rose's set. Now the show is apparently produced out of WPDE in Myrtle Beach. The intro is the same as when I last watched, but apparently the rest of the graphics are WPDE's news graphics, and the "bug" is the show's logo (looks like it was made in MS Paint). Talk about a horrible clash. The set looks like the same one they use for "Carolina and Company". The guests interviewed are mainly from around the Myrtle Beach area so they don't really have any relevance to a national audience. Back when his show was filmed in Washington he had semi-decent guests. To the show's credit they tried to make the topic relevant to a national audience (I think they mentioned the police and how their roles is changing with officer violence like in Ferguson, how social media has impacted their job, etc.) but they interviewed a couple deputies from the Horry County Sherrif's Office. Tell me how much of America is going to care. Also Armstrong doesn't even refer to his show by the proper name. At the end, he thanked us for watching "The Armstrong Williams Show" and that he hopes to see us back next week... The show has the sloooooowessttt credits sequence ever too. And there's like four names but it took like 30 thirty seconds to get through the credits because they moved so slow. Overall, a b-rate production.
  5. Thank goodness. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/wusa-news-director-resigns_b131231 I hope after this news, WUSA's new ND will move to improve the product.
  6. No, they went from Chris Corley to Eric Gordon then to Malmos. Here's a video confirming that: [yt]-_js82ukZg8[/yt]
  7. Sinclair doesn't seem to be forcing their stations to use Richard Malmos anymore, ever since their buying binge. Like WTOV still uses Jeff Collins, WHP switched to Beau Weaver then some unknown female VO after Sinclair took over, and I could go on and on... Though KEYE did switch to Eric Gordon then Malmos a couple years ago. Read into that what you will. And CBS4 Local reminds me too much of Nexstar.
  8. Coastal is a horrible owner that has made zero investment in their Anchorage stations, aside from upgrading master control to play commercials and syndicated shows in HD.
  9. Why would they? They're not owned by Nexstar...
  10. Good luck, but I expect it be poor quality, looking at the crap that passed for "news" when he was in San Angelo. Also the MMTC lied. They said McCoy is one of only two African-American owners but remember Armstrong Williams owns two stations of his own. So that would be three.
  11. Last night on James Spann's Weather Brains podcast, Kevin Selle broke the news that he will be the new chief meteorologist at KFDX replacing popular meteorologist Skip McBride when he retires later this year. Selle was last the chief meteorologist at Texas Cable News. Kind of a fall to go from DMA #5 to DMA #145 but I guess that's the state of the business now. Good luck to Kevin. I used to watch him on TXCN back when I still had Time Warner and he's pretty good. Also, Nexstar has moved WMBB to their new webpage, mypanhandle.com. No clue what KREX's new site will be.
  12. The Look G attempt isn't bad considering the market size and effort they put into it. It's not a straight up ripoff either like KHSL/KNVN's. Theirs is pretty bad. Interestingly it appears that the opens and talent bump are played out from master control since they're in a HD and the odd transitions from the studio feed to the talent bump etc. For the morning show, oh it irks me that they're using Montserrat (a free Google font) and not Gotham. Could you guys really not afford Gotham? If they'd used Gotham then their ripoff would actually be pretty good. Well, at least they have a BIM site now. Whatever they used before was crap.
  13. No, you're doing it now because Belo was too cheap to do it then and they didn't care too much about KTVB, their smallest station... Also, "new control room smell". Gotta love small market weatherman jokes...
  14. Bumping this up. Apparently, if you believe the NMSA, the WTLV 1972 theme is now called, "Production Music: Tabloid" by Frank Denning. Would love to know who found that and how.
  15. Hey there, so here's an update from the consolidation at KABB and WOAI. It looks like they are targeting a move in by December at the latest. WOAI's news set, anchors, control room and master control are still downtown. Everything else is now located at KABB's facility. The two now operate from a consolidated newsroom on the second floor where sales used to be. For whatever reason they decided to paint the walls the same colors as the old newsroom downstairs. Why? I don't know. But here's a before and after. OLD NEW: (taken from Ted Garcia's twitter) WOAI OLD NEWSROOM: All of the reporters and photogs now work out of this new newsroom. I have yet to see what the assignment desk looks like. The old newsroom space downstairs has been gutted and is being converted to additional studios (and I assume an additional control room too) You can bet Devlin is doing the set but I have no clue what it looks like. No word on what happens to SA Living and where their studio will be. That's the latest.
  16. And to add on to the greatness you likely won't be able to see it because the nazis at KTVB will have it pulled from YT (surprising how we're in 2014 and some stations still don't want their opens online)...
  17. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they used her for occasional sports reporting too. If I'm not mistaken they used her to do some sports reporting at WTXF as well. Though I do question that author's assessment that she "expressed an interest in reporting". I think it's KSHB trying to multi-task their people and get their money's worth. Their staff is probably stretched thin compared to a larger market. Kansas City is a far cry from Philly when it comes to how the media works there and hopefully she realizes that. Speaking of Michelle Apon, I would not be surprised to see her land at KXTV. Stay tuned. KSHB still also has to fill her vacancy in the weather department too. And while we're discussing KC, KDAF has hired Molly Balkenbush as a reporter. Finally, do you mean Dayne Marae? I tried doing a google search for Dane Murray because I wanted to see if she's as bad as you claim but nothing came up. Yeah, she's pretty bad lol... Got to love small market television...
  18. I read the press release on that. I found it odd Scott Livingston is the one quoted. So the NDs are hired at a corporate level?
  19. Uh, yeah right... I also like how the ND came right out and said she's attractive.
  20. WJLA has named Mitch Jacob as their new ND. He's currently the ND at WSYX. He follows his old GM Dan Mellon to 'JLA.
  21. Why can't they just use wordpress or something? It's easy to make an in-house site that actually looks and works good. In fact, there are individual stations who outsource to local webdesign firms, who do a much better job than what Sinclair is doing. Just look at KTVA.
  22. So you quickly answered your own question, I suppose. It's like they're making all these changes with KUTV but we don't notice because we're too busy looking at WBMA and WCIV...
  23. But do they need to name the entire segment after the paper? You go to WOAI, who's called Friday Night Fever, KSAT has Big Game Coverage, and KABB has High School To The Max. All are local brands used for many years. Then you go to KENS and it's called "USA Today High School Sports". It just looks so dumb. I don't mind if they mention it casually throughout the segment. It's a minor annoyance, but to actually name the entire segment after it? Ugh, can't wait for the spinoff to be complete.
  24. So KENS5 changed the name of their weekly high school football segment. It used to be called "KENS5 Friday Night Football". Guess what? It's now "USA Today High School Sports"... :bang:
