  1. Bumping this up. Apparently, if you believe the NMSA, the WTLV 1972 theme is now called, "Production Music: Tabloid" by Frank Denning. Would love to know who found that and how.
  2. Hey there, so here's an update from the consolidation at KABB and WOAI. It looks like they are targeting a move in by December at the latest. WOAI's news set, anchors, control room and master control are still downtown. Everything else is now located at KABB's facility. The two now operate from a consolidated newsroom on the second floor where sales used to be. For whatever reason they decided to paint the walls the same colors as the old newsroom downstairs. Why? I don't know. But here's a before and after. OLD NEW: (taken from Ted Garcia's twitter) WOAI OLD NEWSROOM: All of the reporters and photogs now work out of this new newsroom. I have yet to see what the assignment desk looks like. The old newsroom space downstairs has been gutted and is being converted to additional studios (and I assume an additional control room too) You can bet Devlin is doing the set but I have no clue what it looks like. No word on what happens to SA Living and where their studio will be. That's the latest.
  3. And to add on to the greatness you likely won't be able to see it because the nazis at KTVB will have it pulled from YT (surprising how we're in 2014 and some stations still don't want their opens online)...
  4. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they used her for occasional sports reporting too. If I'm not mistaken they used her to do some sports reporting at WTXF as well. Though I do question that author's assessment that she "expressed an interest in reporting". I think it's KSHB trying to multi-task their people and get their money's worth. Their staff is probably stretched thin compared to a larger market. Kansas City is a far cry from Philly when it comes to how the media works there and hopefully she realizes that. Speaking of Michelle Apon, I would not be surprised to see her land at KXTV. Stay tuned. KSHB still also has to fill her vacancy in the weather department too. And while we're discussing KC, KDAF has hired Molly Balkenbush as a reporter. Finally, do you mean Dayne Marae? I tried doing a google search for Dane Murray because I wanted to see if she's as bad as you claim but nothing came up. Yeah, she's pretty bad lol... Got to love small market television...
  5. I read the press release on that. I found it odd Scott Livingston is the one quoted. So the NDs are hired at a corporate level?
  6. Uh, yeah right... I also like how the ND came right out and said she's attractive.
  7. WJLA has named Mitch Jacob as their new ND. He's currently the ND at WSYX. He follows his old GM Dan Mellon to 'JLA.
  8. Why can't they just use wordpress or something? It's easy to make an in-house site that actually looks and works good. In fact, there are individual stations who outsource to local webdesign firms, who do a much better job than what Sinclair is doing. Just look at KTVA.
  9. So you quickly answered your own question, I suppose. It's like they're making all these changes with KUTV but we don't notice because we're too busy looking at WBMA and WCIV...
  10. But do they need to name the entire segment after the paper? You go to WOAI, who's called Friday Night Fever, KSAT has Big Game Coverage, and KABB has High School To The Max. All are local brands used for many years. Then you go to KENS and it's called "USA Today High School Sports". It just looks so dumb. I don't mind if they mention it casually throughout the segment. It's a minor annoyance, but to actually name the entire segment after it? Ugh, can't wait for the spinoff to be complete.
  11. So KENS5 changed the name of their weekly high school football segment. It used to be called "KENS5 Friday Night Football". Guess what? It's now "USA Today High School Sports"... :bang:
  12. Do you know if KVDA is included? NBCU holds their license but for all intents and purposes they are a ZGS station.
  13. KENS5 changed the opening cut to the one that KING and KGW are using. Man, it sucks. What they were using before was at least semi-tolerable.
  14. Are you the one who misidentified KOIN's and WCNC's current VO? Neither of them sound like John Beach...
  15. More than just her voice, she acts like a snobby, annoying little kid and crosses the line at times with some of the comments she makes. Not someone I'd want to hang around with, or watch for that matter. No wonder she usually doesn't fill in for Lara on weekdays...
  16. Michael Valdes is out at KABB after 20 years and one of the original members of the KABB news team. http://blog.mysanantonio.com/jakle06/2014/09/s-a-anchor-exits-tv-after-20-year-run/
  17. Nice to see WVEC's promos still have the "feel" that they did pre-standardization, they just change the fonts to match the news graphics but same feel to them.
  18. News to me. Not about Abbott pulling out of the debate or Gannett's 83% reach in Texas, but Gannett actually keeping the Belo debates. But if Abbott pulled out, really no point for them to do it.
  19. Yes, but not a super fast and sudden one like what KHOU and KABB did. I always thought that was cool and gave the news a sense of urgency.
  20. Maybe they're just "parking" the account?
  21. Yes, TX is a right to work state. In fact, unions are (mostly) a foreign concept in these parts. That's not to say they don't exist here, they very much do. Their presence isn't as big as where you are though. As for KHOU's sudden zooms I actually liked it. KABB also used to do the same thing manually until they went robotic. The robotic camera apparently can't zoom in that fast.
  22. Disagree. I think you save the best for last. WFAA should've been last. But KHOU will be. KHOU isn't special to me but WFAA is.
  23. Sounds like a different sig in the open. Definitely not what I'm accustomed to hearing. It also looks odd they're using the night time open at 5. It doesn't get that dark here in TX until after 8. Or out of daylight savings, 7. Also embedding your video: [yt]I1GIAbhC3NU[/yt]
  24. I think it's an added dimension to KENS. They can do more with their shots compared 12 and 29 which have robo cams. Newport was another group that never switched to robotic cameras and I think over at 4 they only have one guy running cameras. So when they were on one camera the guy would run and set the shots up for the other cameras and then run back. So they cut personnel running cameras but not actually going robotic. But with Sinclair now on the fold, they're a huge proponent of automation and robo cams so they should make the switch after the move. Just because you can make cuts, why should you? Sinclair may think that way but Belo never did. In fact back in 2008, they were one of the last to lay people off. They didn't want to make cut backs but they were forced to, at least in Texas. They cared about the state of Texas. In fact, it feels weird not seeing "The Belo Debates" this year for gubernatorial race. I have no idea if Gannett will keep the concept going but I doubt it. "The Spirit of Texas" died when Belo Company did. And it wasn't just a slogan but I'd say kind of how Belo ran themselves too. Decent company.
  25. Yeah I don't think they should've launched the site then graphics on the same day. Doesn't seem like they've had time to iron out the kinks.
