  1. So I've been watching WOAI at 5pm all week and last week and I think they made an anchor change. Evy Ramos now coanchors at 5 with Delaine Mathieu. Previously it had been Mathieu and Randy Beamer. Beamer still appears at 6 and 10 with Ramos. Don't know why they made the change.
  2. No I was talking about the Assistant News Director. I remember their old GM and ND left around the same time and then once they hired their current GM and ND the old AND left. I don't want to look up specifics but that's how I remember it. When was the current management hired anyways? I want to say early 2013 but can't remember. Yeah I've seen clips of KSHB and saw Justin Wilfon on the 5 and 6 a month or two ago. I've noticed about The NOW is they like to keep news talent separate from the talent who appears on it. When I have a day off next month I will check out KSHB again on their stream to see if they have changed from the last time I saw them about a year ago. Also I will check out WXYZ to see how their approach is. Scripps has been very cookie cutter and standardized about the talent they hire, the way the newscasts are stacked, the feel of them. If you've seen one station you've seen them all... It's just sad they didn't retain Journal's management and leave the existing Scripps people to tend to the newspapers. They actually do a decent job with newspapers still. This comes from a frequent reader of the Caller-Times.
  3. I'll say this about KSHB. I think they struggle because they produce an inferior news product. I don't think any of their recent hires are older than 35, and even then I think that's a stretch to say that. I think most of their recent hires have to be younger than 30. I mean I read on TVSpy the other day they just hired someone from Bakersfield, that's basically a 100 market jump. The talent this ND has hired are young and inexperienced for a mid-major market. And when you hire inexperienced, you generally get shoddier reporting. Like this. When they were doing OK it was mostly under a better management team both of who are no longer at the station. And they're not hiring young because of looks. It's a side benefit but this station is doing it solely because of cost savings. Also I looked at their jobs page the other day. They STILL haven't found their replacement for Mark Clegg, no AND either, which I think has been vacant for over a year now. And they have some other major vacancies to fill. They are understaffed but sure seem to be taking their time. It also doesn't help when your corporate office is dropping winning programming like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for crap like "The NOW". I know we all knock Sinclair but at least they show they have a lick of sense when it comes to running and programming TV stations. Sad to see the downfall of what was once one of the "gold standard" companies in journalism and winning TV stations. I am glad we don't have Scripps TV stations here (I already have to deal with a similarly subpar group, Gannett).
  4. Question: how come KSHB doesn't produce the nightly 9 o'clock news on KMCI? You'd think that'd be a no-brainer but they air syndicated shows at that time...
  5. KSHB's traffic and features reporter (and sometimes news anchor) Kacie McDonnell will join Sporting KC, a soccer franchise, to do hosting and sideline reporting. It should be noted that KMCI, which is owned by KSHB, broadcasts their games. So it's basically cross promotion for their newscasts. The article below says McDonnell will stay on the morning newscasts too so I guess she will be pulling six day work weeks during soccer season. I guess she got this job because she is locked in a contract with Scripps for a couple years and realizes she can't go anywhere anytime soon. http://www.sportingkc.com/news/2015/02/sporting-kc-hires-kshb-tv-41-action-news-reporter-kacie-mcdonnell-skctvs-new-network-host Also I've seen many press releases in my day but this is one of the worst. I mean they literally found an old interview of her and just copied a quote of her from it and made up another sentence. How pathetic. I've read the interview on TVSpy before, I'm not going to dig up the link, you can Google it if you care.
  6. I doubt it. Sinclair used to not be a fan of news choppers but surprisingly they have kept WOAI's chopper lease (and have extended it to KABB as well). The only thing is that the chopper is now sponsored by World Car. So I guess Sinclair's logic there is, "we'll keep the chopper if we can find a company willing to shoulder most or all of the cost of it".
  7. Called it, told ya Nexstar hates choppers. Now let's see how they'll work "Local" into the station...
  8. please just stop with the blue helio thing already...
  9. I don't think that's a knockoff. That's the real deal...
  10. Methinks none of the above. I think Nexstar will give them something unique so they can stand out. Nexstar has its favorites like WSYR, WATN, KTVX and a couple others that have domain names not typical of their other stations. Doubt it. I remember that domain name, I also remember when WMBB was panhandleparade.com and they didn't go back to that when Nexstar took over...
  11. The consolidation at WOAI and KABB continues as they merge their weekend news team. http://blog.mysanantonio.com/jakle06/2015/02/major-anchor-weather-changes-at-woaikabb/ (I'm guessing they will still have separate sports casters, David Chancellor on 4 and Kevin Cuenca on 29)
  12. Not sure about the others but at KENS yes. They have always added in newscast bugs etc. in their PCR
  13. Then KSDK must not know how to take the L3 down while leaving the rundown up. Or their director is coding the show wrong. Because at KENS, they can do both. Most of the time during the story, they usually just leave the lower third up. They only take it down during the weather or teases.
  14. KABB announces its new lead anchor, replacing Michael Valdes. They have hired Ryan Wolf from their sister KGBT in the Rio Grande Valley. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/ryan-wolf-named-anchor-at-kabb/139730
  15. How could I have not seen this coming.... http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillygossip/Kacie-McDonnell-no-longer-engaged-to-Aarron-Murray.html Ladies and gentlemen, this is why we shouldn't relocate to be with our love interest unless you're married. Now she's stuck in KC for a while.
  16. ick, but why do i have a feeling they'll go with something similar to that? (i'm not saying ick to your design, just the idea they have to cobrand with ABC)...
  17. How do y'all know they won't just attach the ABC logo to the 3 rather than separate them like depicted above? It would look better attached.
  18. Thanks for your prompt reply. It just frustrates me, people make up crap without backing it up. Like I've seen this talk over and over but only now is it official. Thanks again.
  19. Source? And I checked WOAI the other day, they only have a 4.1 (NBC) and 4.2 (LWN). I actually live in the market and have seen this with my own eyes.
  20. maybe their license to use their old music expired and rather than pay to renew, knowing they'd have to drop it eventually, they probably just took the 615 pkg now. cost-saving issue if anything. I don't think it's them being generous, I think KATU just doesn't have the production equipment yet to be able to use the new graphics. I'm sure they'll get them eventually.
  21. OK, WOAI went live with their new look yesterday. For now I'll just post the open, as recorded off the air. (the only computer my tuner works with is really slow so I will have montages of WOAI and KABB and the other SA stations later this week). [yt]0Xe4U99kgCs[/yt] And a bonus, the final live broadcast EVER from their downtown studio, during last night's Sports Sunday. I edited out most of the show so it's only the open and the final segment where they actually close out the building. They did a fantastic job IMO: [yt]QDcqa6JBQnM[/yt] EDIT: Had to reupload to fix the problem.
  22. You keep forgetting WJAR, they are also a nice get for Sinclair being the ratings king in that market.
  23. http://www.news4sanantonio.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/a-fond-farewell-woai-downtown-studios-18738.shtml here's the story promised, they basically have reran abbreviated versions of it ever since that newscast at 5 on Friday. Today's the big day they move, news and weather comes from the new studio. Sports come from downtown for the day. David Robinson and his son will help do the final show from Navarro Street after the football game. It will be interesting to see what they do with that set they have now. I hope they don't just rip it out and chuck it. I hope they donate to a school or something or even recycle it at a Sinclair sister. As for the property they're about to vacate, I could see it selling pretty quickly. They're on prime riverfront property, which would be good for a hotel or condo. That building is over 100 years old and it needs to go. I hope people don't put up a fight like they did when KWEX moved to the northwest side last year. It was bad enough where people got arrested because they were trying to stop the bulldozing of the old KWEX building near downtown from getting torn down. They kept the STL tower up to pay homage to the site (I could see why they did it but it's an ugly unnecessary eyesore now).
