  1. I swear the mishandling of Tribune could be it's own documentary. They had no idea what to do with WGN America (when compared to TBS which was a superstation in itself) and the only saving grace they had was that they had an image and namesake stations like WPIX/KTLA/WGN and the like. Ever since Nexstar bought Tribune, it's like Tribune's management has been poisoning the company. To me, Nexstar today feels like what would of happened had Sinclair successfully attempted to acquire Tribune, a total trainwreck that claims to care about locals but only cares about the bottom line. I wouldn't be surprised if many Nexstar stations go right wing in the future if Nexstar's investment in a right-wing NewsNation is successful. Nexstar is essentially Sinclair but better handled in my eyes now. It's not NewsNation related but I posted this because Nexstar's handling of NewsNation could be the future of Nexstar as a whole.
  2. title may not be great, thread might get closed but looking at the number of people who left and the number of controversies that NewsNation is going through. I feel like it's worthy of a thread to discuss in detail the turmoil that's going on at NewsNation. It's amazing how in a few months, NewsNation lost a majority of it's staff and is going far to the right in defiance of it's original mission (which didn't get ratings but they could of tried harder). I'd be surprised if the network didn't shut down at the end of the year, gained a sizable audience and managed to make something for itself in the cable news world.
  3. O&O gravitas doesn't matter anymore. Nobody's buying new stations except for FOX and that's mainly to get more money out of areas where they have NFL rights. If anything, O&O's might be sold off if they're not viable anymore but I don't see Disney selling ABC or FOX selling to Disney and I'll be surprised if they do. Also any talk of WPLG as an ABC O&O is simply pure fantasy. Just because NBC & CBS own O&O's in Miami does not mean that it's an O&O market just like Boston isn't an O&O market. Think of it from a business perspective, not from a "fantasy TV" perspective.
  4. Instead of doing that, we should just ban ABC selling speculation in this thread until there are actual rumors suggesting that ABC might be sold.
  5. I can safely say this with 100% certainty. Nothing radical is going to happen to Disney.
  6. I honestly thought there was a thread regarding this... Must of been my imagination.
  7. Damn... When MSNBC has higher ratings than CNN you know CNN has failed.
  8. Actually, I would like for all cable news networks to go away... They serve no logistical purpose other than to pollute the mainstream cycles with garbage and to blatantly grab for ratings. There is zero integrity with any of the news channels. MSNBC if they can convert to the NBC News Channel maybe, but yeah; I said what I said.
  9. I know they may be perfect to own them but why does Sinclair have to own everything? I don't like supporting Trump businesses.
  10. Eh. The only reason why TEGNA along with Scripps have gone downhill is because they're too focused on trying to solve the issue of "how do we take our traditional newscasts and make them appeal to younger viewers". What Nextstar and Gray realize is that by making "subtle" changes, they can appeal to both the traditional and youth markets, TEGNA and Scripps don't really grasp the situation they're in. I'd go even further that all TV station groups (even the O&Os) will go downhill to the point where there is no recovery. Internet has replaced TV as the go to source for news unfortunately and there's no way of stopping it.
  11. Just. Stop. We don't need this type of junk on TVNT. We don't need you to say that we're capable for speaking on our own, he was just doing a nice gesture on behalf of all of us that we're grateful for because he does a lot of work for this forum in an unofficial fashion. Stop your shick or leave. You don't have to do either but you're becoming really annoying now.
  12. I literally hate InvisionBoard. XenForo was way better.
  13. They didn't "lose him". NBC just moved him to another one of their O&O stations.
  14. Pinnacle and that graphics package were the best thing KSTP/KSAZ had in 1993. It was ahead of it's time both figuratively and literally.
  15. One word, money. Sinclair offered the most promising offer to Albittron.
  16. Latino's can speak English too; the thing about Hispanics/Latinos is that they have more money, can make more influential changes and as a market, are easier to approach. (ala niche) I also agree that it's flawed as well; I will laugh if they're forced to sell WJZY/WMYT after spending alot of money to get into Charlotte but for now; it works for them if they're smart enough.
  17. It doesn't make sense for networks to buy stations anymore. Especially considering there's no need to when your network affiliates are paying for the privilege to carry your programming. It may have been cool to have an O&O in Washington but the other stations, it was going to be a hassle to sell them off. Especially if you're Disney. It makes sense for Telemundo to buy O&O's (but not NBC) because let's face it. Latino's are a hot growing market and if you can be in the positions of many hot spots (like Tuscon) than it'll make you a whole lot of money. It also makes some sense for Fox because Football makes them money; but that's if they're smart enough to keep NFC rights.
  18. Blame YouTube, they also took down the 1992 KNBC videos which contained what I believe to be one of the best themes KNBC ever had. NewsCenter II.
